Cravings

Cravings don't always have to be pickles and ice cream!

Cravings
During pregnancy, many women will develop food cravings or aversions. It is said that about 85% of pregnant women experience food cravings during their pregnancy. The most common craving is for something sweet or salty. Other women crave international foods and fruits during pregnancy. While it can be true that pregnant women want "pickles and ice cream", this is not always the case. Sometimes you might want foods that you never liked before. You also may develop aversions to foods that you once enjoyed. The taste or smell of a particular food may become bothersome for you. While it is okay to give into your cravings, you should not be eating candy bars, chips and Oreo cookies at every meal.

Pica
Sometimes women will crave other non-food items, such as laundry detergent, charcoal, alcohol, clay, coffee grounds, cigarette butts and dirt. This is a condition know as pica, and it can be very dangerous. If you are experiencing anything that is not food, you should contact your healthcare provider. Your body may need additional vitamins or minerals.

The white cherry icee at target are the best! I get one everytime i go and drink it while i shop!

Elle - 1 days ago.
I'm gonna get an icee on the way home from errands today. I went and sold some clothes to platos closet so I have to go see how much money I will be getting back. but those icees have been on my mind all day now and I have to have one.

I have not been able to drink soda since the first tri because I associated it with bad MS but I LOVE the coke icee idea!!! I am going to get one on the way home from work today! Thanks ladies!

For all you ladies craving ice, it can (not always) be a sign of anemia. Just something to be aware of. Strawberries have been my thing as of late. Oh yeah, and steak - although not at the same time =)

katykat - 2 days ago.
Wow, I've been craving popsicles and snow cones too! There is a convenient store here that serves Pepsi icees and they're soooo good. I also love Sonic Drive-In (they may only have them in the south, I dunno?) since they have like 20 different kinds of slushes. MMMMMM!!!! And I've realized lately that I've been eating a LOT of orange food?

lizzie287 - 2 days ago.
Hollandaise sauce should be avoided because of the raw eggs used. Same with mayo, caesar dressings, etc., IF THEY ARE HOMEMADE. Store-bought are usually ok because they don't contain raw egg anymore. As long as the mix you're using doesn't contain raw egg (and I'd suspect it probably doesn't), you should be fine.

mommyrock - 2 days ago.
Question, I am craving modified Eggs Benedict (86 the ham) and I saw something that said to avoid Hollandaise Sauce but it didn't say anything about Hollandaise mix. I know it isn't as good but is it safer? If you know please let me know on my page, thanks.

mexican mommy: i crave ice so much! i have to have a huge glass of water and ice every few hours and especialy before i go to bed and il only eat the ice. weird but i love it :)

mikesbaby - 2 days ago.
mmm...popsicles...It's not even hot out or anything, but I've kept popsicles in the freezer for the past 3 weeks. I'm eating one now, in fact. I got spacepops this time, just for variety... :D

TNMom - 2 days ago.
mexican mommy--you're definitely not weird. TONS of pregnant women crave exactly that. When I walked into the OB ward to deliver my third, I told them to keep me supplied with lots of crushed ice and they'd keep me very happy! I went through a bag of ice every two days!!! Sometimes it is linked to being low on iron, but not always.

I have recently been craving ice... Am I wired???

kla2200 - 2 days ago.
I can relate to the Beer craving. We had a BBQ last weekend and on Monday everytime I opened the fridge I had a shelf full of Corona staring at me. I am 28 weeks with a boy too!

mjeans - 2 days ago.
I have recently been craving BEER! I didn't drink beer before I was pregnant, but the look of that tall cold one just sets my craving off...figures I'm having a boy! My best friend is pregnant as well and has a similar craving so she bought some non-alcoholic beer to quench her thirst...anybody else?

Elle - 2 days ago.
I am craving a krispy kreme apple filled cinnamon and sugar doughnut.

jenn8808 - 3 days ago.
I was so bad today! A friend and I ate Chipotle for lunch, and after we went to Dairy Queen and got the Strawberry Cheesequake blizzard..... mmmmm good times! I also had to buy some sourpunch straws to eat tomorrow....and I second the Gushers, and love fruit roll ups too! :)

MindieSwan - 3 days ago.
I have never been much a sweets person, but for some reason that is all I want. Ice Cream, waffles and cinnimon buns... did I mention otter pops.. YUM ...

Elle - 3 days ago.

mommyashley86 - 3 days ago.
