Reasons For Missed Periods

Q. I have missed my period. Does this mean that I am pregnant?

A. No. There are reasons, other than pregnancy, that can cause females to miss their menstrual cycle.

Q. I just started having my periods. I did not get one this month. Does this mean I am pregnant?

A. Not necessarily. For about the first year after a female originally starts her period, she may experience erratic menstrual cycles. It is not uncommon for girls to miss one or more menstrual cycles when their periods first begin.

Q. Are there any factors in my lifestyle that can cause me to miss my period?

A. Yes, there are. Weight loss or weight gain can cause a missed period. If you are malnourished or have low body fat, your period may be absent. Heavy exercising can also cause a woman to miss her period.

Q. I have been under alot of stress lately and now I have missed my period. Is this normal?

A. Stress can cause a missed menstrual cycle. Stress can come in different forms. Changes in your life such as school, work, relationships, finances or other stressors can all cause unecessary worry that can cause a missed period.

Q. Are there any illnesses or diseases that can cause a missed period?

A. Women that experience diseases of the reproductive system or brain often have missed periods. Chemotherapy and radiation treatments for caner can also cause a woman to miss her monthly period. Certain medications and birth control options can cause irregular periods also.

Q. I really want to be pregnant. I have my missed my period and feel pregnant. However, I have been to the doctor and they say I am not pregnant.

A. There are certain types of emotional problems that can make a woman feel pregnant even when she is not. Some women want to be pregnant so badly that they convinve their body that they actually are pregnant. Her body senses this strong feeling and often times, the woman's period may stop.

Ok here goes sorry about gory details but as I first time mum I really need to know a few things so I've bin with this one guy who doesn't even drink very clean living for 3 years on and off all thro November we saw each other nearly every day and had sex at least 3 - 4 times a day without fail we had an argument around the 20/21 of November but still slept with him that day met this random guy after my main man Shaun stopped talking to me after the fight I met this guy who was badly into drugs about the 26th of November but got what I thought was my period that day it was red and come out normal and I had not got them yet don't keep dates so assumed it was my period had sex with the random guy but used a female protection the sponge for a few days during this time then by the 2nd 3rd day they were gone as I usually have them at least 5 days not 2 or 3 anyway saw the random after this on and off for about a week but things went pear shaped real quick real fast didn't have sex with this guy very often my main man Shaun called me around the 12th and I saw him not long after that and we had sex all day around the 17th December at this point I was being told ur cranky by ppl bet ur pregnant and have a photo taken 4th December which someone said I looked pregnant by the 8th January I got told by the doctor I was aboutb5 and half 6 weeks pregnant yet at the scan the other day on the 20th march by the women who did my scan who wasn't very nice that iam due about 29th August and fell pregnant around December 4th take a few days either way and it's not possible because she's been doing ultrasounds for 20 years to be wrong but somehow I think she is wrong by about a week could I be right and had a plantation bleeding on the 26th dec and fell pregnant around the 23/24 November due to my main guy being clean and healthy and his sperm lasting in my body for a few days as I just don't see it being likely to get pregnant a few days after my period if it was even my period or getting pregnant to the random using a sponge and bleeding lightly if anyone could help me that would be much appreciated ;)

I'm 30 years old and I missed my preiod 6 days. I have back pain and cramping. I feel like I'm on my preiod and I have light brown discharge. I've tested pregnancy test this morning and came out negative. I didnt feel any morning sickness. Am I pregnant or other kind of infection. Please advise me.

I Have Tested Twice & Both Negative (None Took With FMU As I Didn't Know About That Been Important Then) I Have Left It Almost Two Weeks Now But I Still Have Really Sore BB & They Have Increased In Size, I Have A Slight Back Pain, Feeling Sick Every Morning & Sometimes Night Times, More Sleepy Than Usual (I'm Never Sleepy Through-out The Day!) No Sign Of My Period (Late By Few Days) .. I Really Do Want To Be PG. Could The Tests Be Incorrect? I Am Awaiting Test Results Back From The Doctor In The Next Few Days Took With FMU This Time. I Know Y'all Are Not Doctors But If You Could Give Me Some Advice I Would Be Really Thankful :) TIA

HI guys i kind of new here... Me and my husband been ttc for 7 years now with no luck. So on the 28th of oct I was having this very weird periods that scared me to death, bc its super super heavy that I have to change tampons 3 times in an hour, and every time i move even just for a little walk to the bathroom, the blood just come out like the Niagara falls I thought i was miscarriage,so I took a prego test and its negative... cause my bff said if i am miscarriage the hormones still there. I was lasted for 5 days then it became lighter and lighter until it was gone. Now my question is why my period stopped after that its been almost 1 month. My periods is never regular anyway but I always have the symptoms every moth. Please tell me what should I do Im sad and confused... Thx guys anything would help.

Am 34 year old, my last period was june r 17, 2011. Am 22 day late, no sing of been pregnant,but I think I am. Had taken 4 test and they all negative. Had sex on monday, and starded bleeding, is not much and is not like my period. For the pass week been having a bit of a head aid and a bit of cramping but it goes away went I rest. Can some one tell me if I can still be pregnant.

Hello im anna i miss carried 2 months ago in april my period came ontime but it was a very odd odd period. very light scainty brown spotty discharge for 2 days got alil heavyier an stoped then had brown bleeding for 11 days an stoped now im supossed to get my period never came ( i ovulated 2 weeks ago an a few days) an no period nothing (i had sex 3 days befour ovulation day) an for 2 weeks straight threw. i never got a period... is this because of my misscarriage? an the long period last month or is this pregnancy? or just a late period from misscarriage an from lasts months weird long period?. OR i missed my period because i have a few pockets of fluid in my uterious some fluid an alil blood? could this be why? anyone no please talk to me, ive taken a very cheap pregnancy test a dollar one from family dollar i got a negative . anyone with a similar experience please tell me thank you

My husband and I are trying for our first baby together it will be his second child. My last period was on the 23 of January and I’m on a 28 day cycle. I was supposed to have my period yesterday but it didn’t come. I took a pregnancy test 3 days ago hoping it would be positive and it was negative. I took another one this morning and it was negative. I’m now sitting here wondering what I should do. Should I take another test? Or wait? I really need some motivation and encouragement after getting two negative tests. My husband he believes in his heart I am pregnant and says I should go to the doctor but I’m so disappointed about the two negative tests. What should I do I need advice!!! Also I’ve been having cramps, nausea, dizziness and just this feeling like I am. I don’t feel the way I feel when I’m about to have my period it’s a different feeling. need advice from ladies who have been where i am

Hi. I have a question for you ladies. Me and my husband sre trying for a baby. I usually have a cycle of 26-28 days. I was expecting my period on the 14th feb. I had a few cramps yesterday and the day before that a little bit of cramping. No period ....On the 15th in the morning I had a pregnancy test. It was negative. Do you think I am pregnant?

Hi Ladies - I have a question. I miscarried last September. I had an ultra sound at 9 weeks and told me there was no heart beat. I miscarried 3 weeks later on what would have been my normal period day (I went back and checked the dates and thought that was interesting). since the miscarriage I get my period every 28 days to the hour. The last 2 months though have been different. I have gotten my period on Day 30 and my periods are very light. There is old blood (dark brown to black) but no fresh blood. This morning I got my 'period' on day 30 and same thing, there has been a little brown/black blood, but no fresh blood and it's very very light. I still have the cramps. Is this normal. SHould I be worried????

I've always been irregular and i've been getting my period for over 4 years now. I'm used to missing 1, but i get it directly in the first week of the next month. I skipped the month of April, now it's halfway through May and i still haven't got my period. My boyfriend has been having morning sickness and cravings and i know that men's body's sometimes take the symptoms, and i'm wondering if i'm pregnant and my hormones are causng him to have symptoms or what....I'm a little worried. Anyone have any advice or anything? it would be greatly appreciated. my boyfriend wants a baby so bad and so do i, but i'm not sure whether to tell him i am or not, cuz i've taken 3 hpt in the past few weeks and they've all been negative....but i have all the signs and symptoms.......any idea what's going on?

Hey I was due AF on 5th of this month. It is now the 11th and i am 6 days late. My cycle is like clockwork EXACTLY 28 days. Being this late is so unusual i am sick in the mornings, feel dizzy, have a DEcreased appetite and am feeling butterflies in the pit of my stomach. I have taken 2 hpt's both have come out negative. Could i still be pregnant?? Please help!

i was supposed to get AF on the 7th of this month.. the 7th has come and gone so idk whats up.. i get my period EVERY month on the same date.. the 7th.. i havent missed one period yet since january of 09 when i had my second son.. its been normal since then and even after i had him.. i took a test and it was a very faint line barely visible and i took another one like a day after and it was completely neg. can someone give me some kinda advice as to wat it could be???

brandy- i know brest feeding can affect your period from coming. when i had my son i didn't have a period until after i quite pumping/brestfeeding. so it is possibly the brestfeeding.

Just curious on how long it takes to get a period after having a baby? I had a c-section and bleed on and off for around 3 weeks....since then nothing.......I had the baby two months ago. I am pumping breastmilk though so I dunno if that will affect it. But I have been dizzy, nauseous, having headaches, and staying tired again. I would think i was preggy but I had clips placed on my tubes during the c-section. Any advice?

Hey Mrs Mobley, have they done all the tests for ovarian cysts and PCOS. My friend had PCOS and would go months without a period, the next thing she was 6 months pregnant and had no idea. I would demand that the doctor do every test available including scans. They have the resources to do it they just get told not to, to save money. Get back down there and kick up a fuss! Good luck

I think that it is advisable to wait until you are at least ten days late to do a test. There are so many things that can make you late. Especially wanting to be pregnant

Hello! I got a question that I hope someone can help me with...I had my iuc removed Jan 20. I had what I believe to be my period 21-25 but nothing since. I have taken SEVERAL (around 7) tests. All but two I'm absolutely positive were negative (LOL). The other two...one didn't complete and the other one I took today had a distinct negative line but there was an extremely, EXTREMELY faint 'mark', not a complete line, where the positive result line should be (make sense?). I'm not sure if I was seeing things, if it was just a shadow, or...Anyone have any ideas? When would be a good time to retake a test?
