What is implantation bleeding?

Once the egg implants itself into the lining of the uterus after conception, some women may notice a slight trace of pink or brownish discharge. This is known as implantation bleeding and may be confused with an early period. It is estimated that 20-30% of women will experience spotting during early pregnancy, occurring approximately 6 to 12 days after ovulation . Implantation bleeding can generally be seen approximately a week before your period is expected to start. However, unlike a menstrual period that will get heavier as the cycle progresses, implantation bleeding does not become heavier.

If implantation bleeding is present, it will likely only last 1-3 days and may be accompanied by other signs of pregnancy, including fatigue, nausea, a missed period, frequent urination, increased sensitivity to smells and/or tender or swollen breasts. Most home pregnancy tests can provide an accurate pregnancy confirmation 9 to 10 days after ovulation.

Implantation bleeding should not be a reason to become concerned and does not have any negative effects on a pregnancy. If implantation bleeding, or spotting, is accompanied by cramping, backaches or increased bleeding, it is recommended that you call your healthcare provider. On the flip side, not all women will experience implantation bleeding and there should be no cause for concern if you do not experience this slight spotting during early pregnancy.

I just wondering, i b/d last weekend, and all wek been feeling slightly sick, n, AF well not sure when dure since they're playin up but i suspect could be due this weekend. This morning when I went to the toilet and wiped I noticed bit of blood (sorry for TMI) it was light red. I been getting slight CM through the week too. So I not sure if AF reared her head or its its implantation bleeding. I just hope it is.. :'-(

hello ladies, i am so confused. i took 2 pregnancy test two weeks ago and got negatives. My last pd was in Dec 7 09 still no pd. I have sore boobs and my jeans dont fit since last week. i am going to take another home test tomorrow but im scared that its gonna come negative again... has this happend to anyone? why hasn't my pd come yet? by the way i am a regular 28 days cycle. its never been late. I have been tracking my pd for two yrs now and not once has it been late. what should i do? is this normal? please help!

donyea - if the dr tested on that day it would have most likely been way to early. If you cycle is a normal 28 days ovulation would most likely have been on January 14-15th. To get a positive test you usually have to wait 14 days give or take a few past ovulation. So on the 19th it would have only been 5 or so days. You may be able to get a positve on Jan 28th but it still could be a false negative. Best bet is to wait until the 30th.

My LNP was Nov 27 which lasted for 5 day's like any other monthly. Well this time it came early (Dec 23) but IDK if it was A/F or Implantation bleeding. Im concern 'cause I was sick on the 19th stomcah hurtin bb's tender the only way it won't hurt if i wear a sports bra or lay on 'em then it feels so good afterwards. Im still feelin concern that I may be preg since it came early and lasted for 3 day's when should I retest? I took a test on the 21st very light faint + look like it had a shadow in it but IDK any-who just let me know when ya'll think I should retest i want to retest on the 2nd.

secretlyhoping - I don't think your chances are small. You can still get pregnant with the withdrawal method. That's how I got here. I'm 23 weeks pregnant from withdrawal method. My DH couldn't believe it could happen, but it can! Good luck!!

i am pretty much in the same boat. my LMP was 11/23, and on cd 18 i spotted twice, cd 19 i spotted most of the day, but only when i wiped, and it was brown - like dried blood, then cd 20 just a hint of pink early in the day, and nothing since. i am on cd22 today, AF is not due for another 6 days...i have never had this before.... i have a dr apt in 4 days, i am trying not to get my hopes up, as we have been trying for so long,,,,but i am praying for a BFP!

My boyfriend and I have unprotected sex 2-3 times a week we always use the pull out method but sometimes we will go at it again almost immediately. Anyway my lmp was 10/27 I usually have my period the same time each month 27 or 28 this time I was a week late and what I thought was af was on 12/4 and only when I wiped I was aware of it the following day there was nothing on 12/6 again only when I wiped 12/7 nothing I even was able to have sex and on 12/8 only when I wiped and since then nothing. The only symptoms that I think im having is ferequent urination (I wake up in the middle of the night to go) headaches, breast swelling, a little bit of nausea. Im not sure if should test yet because my chances seem so small

Advice anyone? I started light pink spotting this evening. I'm 10dpo and had a BFN this morning. Do you girls think it could be implantation bleeding or beginning of AF?

i don't think i'm pregnant.. although i would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to be prego.... my period came about a week early.. I was hoping that it was implantation bleeding but my flow increased... i didn't experience cramping.. my usual cramps are like a dull stabbing pain in my abdomen.... my breasts tend to get sore a week before my period.. now here's the weird part... my breasts are still sore and my period passed already.. a week ago.. WTF is going on?! Like I said, I'd love to be pregnant, i really, really, REALLY want a baby.. but my husband and I have been trying for awhile now.. almost a year.. I just don't want to get my hopes up AGAIN and see it all fall apart... i once had a VERY hopeful month.. my cycle was 54 days long! and I'm pretty regular.. my cycles are about 34 days.. so i was pretty pumped.. but when my period did show up.. needless to say, i was pretty depressed. I'M SO FRUSTRATED!! I need a place to get this off my chest, I think I'm driving my friends and co-workers crazy by talking about babies all the bloody time.... : (

soooo. okay so i have gotten the mirena iud inserted last december 13th. so its been 11 months now since its been inserted. i have been on one other birth control method before the mirena and it took away my period completely. With the mirena i had a period but havent got one since July or August and they were regular length and normal flow. Its November now and 3 days ago i noticed a light pink blood in my panties wen i used the bathroom and it was just a little. Now its gone..i have had some light cramping to go along with it too but that was only on the first day. i got freaked out because i am told the mirena is one of the most effective methods of birth control next to abstinence..i am also being told that light pink spotting may be a sign of implantion bleeding..im a little scared cuz i have an iud inserted(which by the way i checked for my strings and couldnt feel them)and know that if a woman was to become pregnant on the iud they are lots of risks! if any one has had a similar experience with birth control or the pink spotting i would appreciate your input..its probably nothing i just need some thoughts to ease my mind. :) thanks in advance

Hi Ladies, I need some advice. I had blod test on sat that came back BFP. I am thrilled. Went to the doc yest to confirm. I had very slight bleeding, light and brownish. Thought it was implantation bleeding. But this morning i have woken up and i think i have AF. I am getting slight cramps too. Any advice.

Okay, if any one can help, that would be great. My last normal period was Oct. 17-Oct. 21. I did have unprotected sex after that period a couple of times. Today, Oct. 30, I am experiencing very very lite bleeding, which it only lasted 5 hours. It started off very lite pink and then lite brown and now it's gone. My next period is suppose to be on Nov. 13, 2009. Plus, I dont take birth-control and I am married so we dont mind if I have another baby. I just want to know if this is a sign of early pregnancy or it could be changes in my period. If any one can Help, that would be great. My youngest will be 3 in one week so I am trying to concieve again.

I was wrong about the day of my cycle in my earlier post. I had implantation bleeding 9 days ago. I will be taking a HPT on Wed am if no AF before then. *fingers crossed*

Yes, I think this is what I have going on with myself today. I am on dy 22 of my cycle. Shouldn't be AF. Very thin bownish discharge when I wipe (tmi i know).

I took an HPT yesturday at 2in the morning and it came back as a faint + but around 8 something in the morning I started to bleed werid if ya'll don't believe me that i got a faint + feel free to go to my blog called My 2 HPT pic's and see for your self LOL

im pretty sure i had implantation bleeding the day before yesterday cause i had it with my first son and i could have sworn it was implantation bleeding and i took a PT this morning and got a BFN so im really bummed out. i dont know if i just took it to early cause i barely got the IB the day before yesterday and ive done some research and it says to wait at least a week before you test after you've had IB because that gives your body plenty of time to build enough HCG to show on a HPT. so i will probably test again next week and hope for the best. its gonna be a long week till then cause im really anxious to find out if im pregnant. wish me luck with this one. i dont think im gonna tell my hubby until i actually find out if im pregnant or not cause hes been wanting to have another baby really bad and i dont want to get his hopes up and then let him down if the results come out negative. but at the same time im really bummed and i need his support so i dont know what to do.

ok guys i have posted ths on another thread but i saw this so thought that i would do it here now readying this make me hopefull lol. i got i have already got 3 babies my last baby is 5mths nearly 6mth. well before having baby my peroids where 28days apart since having baby they have gone 32 or near abouts nothing before 28days well this mth that has gone i got my period at least 5days early maybe more if i go 32 days. i have never had a my period before 28days ever also this will be my 4th period since having baby so it could jus tbe my body adjusting but also we have had unprotected sex 2 last mth all around the time i would ov so it very hopefull that i could be pregnant i have taken a test as im too scared too and that they arent cheap over here. also it was lightist not very light looked like a period but it did have a bit of brownish colour to it normaly sorry tmi my periods have a lot of clots in it and this time i didnt. so i dont know

I have no idea whats going on, i'm not sure if it is my period or not but I started bleeding a day earlier than was meant to, and the really weird thing is it's not a normal period either. It's bright red, watery and very slow flow where my normal period is dark red, normal blood texture and very very very heavy. The other thing is that I normally have really painful cramps atleast a week before I get my period and have done since I first got my period at the age of 13, and I didnt get any cramps, this bleeding started on the 12th and today the 16th the bleeding seems to be stopping completely, I spoke to a doctor about it and she told me not to be stupid but I'm gonna get a second opinion. What do you think ladies?

I had my last period around april 23.I had sex atleast one a week during april and may. I am not on bc and using no protection. I don't remember having one in may however I bled for one day at the end of may. I am tired all the time I feel sick after I eat could I be pregnant.

my cycle started on dec 14th,08 then came again on dec 24th,08 and im like so confused...could that have been implantation bleeding?
