proudmommy~ you could still have ic.. 11 or 13 wks is still early for ic to be really 'seen' as the weight of your uteros and baby casue it to funneland open. whichi occurs after 16 wks usually... you can ask for progestrone.. they come in diff. forms.. i was on prometrium as my ob didnt feel safe with me putting anything in there.. as i have IC short C and misshaped.. the whole wammy :O/ ~~Ashley~~~the questions i would ask... and did ( keep in mind that often drs say things like there isnt any evidence etc... remember you are patient and realistically you will be the only advacote for you and baby ) so 1. when can you get the cerclage... ? why then? when you will start progestrone.. which type... ( my ob said that i didnt need progstrone, b/c she didnt belive i was in risk of preterm.. but i asked her the risks of taking it and there are none.. so i asked to be put on prometruem from wks 16 - 25 as that is the HIgh risk period) 2. bedrest... you may not need to be put on it 100% but it does help ad agina there is no evidence.. but... can NOt putting pressure be helpful...? thats what i said.. and ob said.. well gravity is gravity so it could be .. just no proof.. well i am at 32 wks so i think thats prooff i got off 100% bed rest at 25 wks and am down to less then 10 % now. Remember you are your advacate for your baby and its life.. it is crucial to do what you can .. i did alot of this stuf like bedrest progest.. b;c it gave me perice of mind and relaxed me .. whichi s helpful for baby and me..... also ... ask lots of questions i went wiht a list of q's every time for the first 5 or 6 appt. so i didnt forget.. also hemriod cream is a great thing to have and adding fibre which ihelp s go bathrrom with out bering down which can also caue unnessacary pressure :O) GOOD LUCK.

Carlos- could the loss of your twins have been a normal miscarriage since they were first trimester? And the other baby you lost at 20 weeks was there contractions with that one? I would like to think I DON'T have IC because they arent treating me like I have IC. There's no plan for the cerclage and I'm not on close watch anymore. (which idk why since I'm only 12 weeks, they should still be watching me). I really dont want to lose this baby too, because they don't think I have IC and then I do end up having it.

carlos-erin - 212 days ago.
ashlie-It's hard to know what questions to ask. But I would ask 'are they going to be putting in a cerclage? At how many weeks?' If not how come? How about progesterone shots. Preterm labor and incompetent cervix go hand in hand. How often will they be checking you during the pregnancy? How about bed rest? Also will you be seeing a perinatal Dr. alongside your regular OB? I am sure there are many more questions you can come up with but those are just a few I would be asking about. Good luck with your appt.

carlos-erin - 212 days ago.
proudmommyofanangel-On my very 1st pregnancy, I was pregnant with twins. Miscarried one at 6 weeks then the 2nd at 12 weeks. Had lots of contractions. So my Dr. said the same thing. Not incompetent cervix until my 2nd pregnancy when I lost the baby at 20 weeks. But my cervix was never measured during that pregnancy until it was to late. Could you have problems with preterm labor? The other thing is there are women who start out with a long cervix and it can shorten very quickly once the baby starts to get bigger and put weight on the cervix. I know it is hard not to worry but try not to worry too much cause that is also not good for the baby.

ProudMommyOfAnAngel - 212 days ago.
Worried and scared.

ProudMommyOfAnAngel - 212 days ago.
Yes I had a loss at 14 weeks and the dr did biopsy on baby and said there was nothing wrong or abnormal with baby so he said I have incompetent cervix. I told him to check out my cervix to make sure he said it wasn't necessary until I'm pregnant again. Now I'm pregnant and go to a diff doctor and he did ultrasound to look at the length of my cervix and it was long. 5 inches. And he said it looked healthy and he doesn't think I have IC. Also when I lost the baby last year I had hours of contractions really painful and my water broke and all that b4 I was able to make it to hospital. And my dr says with IC you don't have any contractions or pain like that. So I'm very confused as to whether I have it or not. I want to believe I don't but then that leaves the mystery as to WHY I lost my baby then. It wasn't no genetics wrong or baby wasn't growing right, baby was healthy and right on track. I just would like to know for sure I'm soo

precious03 - 212 days ago.
Wow! Lots of different stories. I have not had a loss due to a short cervix. This is the first time we are going through this and will be the last as this is planned to be our last. child/pregnancy at my age and esp with the complications. If I had known that we would be in this situation, I guess the questions that would arise would be1) chance of survival, how long is the average preg last with this condition? Would you be a candidate for the cerclage? What to expect although everyone's body reacts differently. I have seen stories of mothers who have had several children all preterm but were successful pregnancies. I guess the biggest question is are you prepared for the journey that awaits. Not that I believe we can fully be but just be aware that it can happen again with the cervix. Best of luck with what you decide to do. I wish you the best. Proud mommy, were you just diagnosed with an incomplete? I don't think the worry part will ever surpass but all we can do is take it day by day, rest, and constantly see the doc to FU and see how things are going. Best of luck!

AshlieLew - 212 days ago.
Hello everyone...I lost a baby two years ago at 19 weeks due to an incompetent cervix. I've been scared and haven't wanted to try again until now and i have an appointment tomorrow with my OB to find out what all I will have to go through to have a baby. I'm really nervous and I'm afraid that I won't ask all the questions that I should. Can ya;; give me some questions i should ask so that I have all the knowledge I need going into this? Thank you so much.

monika01 - 213 days ago.
proud mommy i lost my 1st at 20 wks went to the er in the am b/c i felt a round smushy ball thing in my vag area... and it felt like it was gonna fall out when i peed.. at the er they looked and said my membranes fully intacted are about 2 inches from falling out with any minor puh... i lay upside down for 30 hrs.. wiht no change... my babys legs were in the birthing canal after 31 hrs and so i was induce and delivered only 3 hrs later.. no pain no nothing.. not even a sign ...its all diff. and happens all in the 2nd tri.. if you have isk factors you can ask to be watched closly during this time.. i saw my ob with thi pg.. every wk from wks. 17 to 23. it was alot but i felt better i was also put on prometruim an oral progestron.( even though ob said i didnt need it i pushed for it as a just in case) ...i was also diagnosed wiht a short cervix and misshaped one at the time of my cerclage at 13 wks. so bed rest till 25wks full bd rest..100%...nthing but bathrrom time was walking time..... all the best... DID you have a loss?

carlos-erin - 213 days ago.
proudmommyofanangel-Everybody has a different story. But usually it takes at least one 2nd term loss before some body get diagnosed. When I lost my 1st at 20 weeks there were no contractions. Went into the er due to some spotting and they looked at my cervix and I was all ready dialated. I had no contractions and the Dr. broke my sack while attempting to due an emergency cerclage.

ProudMommyOfAnAngel - 213 days ago.
How did y'all get diagnosed with IC ? Did it take losing more than 1 baby in second trimester or are there other more efficient ways? Please answer I'm very scared. Also when y'all lost a baby due to IC did you have contractions for hours and water break and all that or was there no hard core pain ?

precious03 - 213 days ago.
Bgee-I am so glad to see that everything went well. The rest is going to be a breeze! I am happy for you. Ellie, I understand where you are coming from. I don't think you can ever be prepared enough for the new baby whether it is financially, physically or emotionally or all three. Hubby and I were just talking about when we should get the nursery ready since the Drs seem to be all shooting for 32 weeks which is not too far off. We have yet to buy crib, ect. I have been trying to stock pile baby shampoo's, detergent, ect when I can get them at a steal. We will be needing to buy another vehicle sometime soon. Something with a 3rd seat or more spacious. It's always something, I guess As for an update on the potential cerclage. We met with the High Risk doc again and he elected not to move forward with the stitch since my cervix has not changed since the last 2 wks. I am not going to start the progesterone (oral) since the vag applicators that they had Rx earlier caused intensified pain/pressure. Why is it that 32 wks seem to be the range that the doc's feel that is D day? He Rx enough pills till 32 wks. Should we be shooting for that to as far as having everything ready for the baby? We are baffled, just don't know what to expect or prepare for. We have been just living day-to-day. Hope all of you are doing well! Looking forward to reading your posts.

ddhenry1220 - 213 days ago.
Beegee that's great news, I hope to be where you are pretty soon. 28 weeks, 4 days and counting...

monika01 - 214 days ago.
beegee~ congrats! yay or no pain.. i was wondering.. was your knot in the front or back...? mine is in the back .. also was it easy for your dr. to put it in originally? i ak b/c my ob said mine was the most difficult ever.. and my knot is n the back...she even sugested that i my need to go to the er and get an epi... :O/

Beegee - 214 days ago.
Her everyone. The procedure today went off without a hitch. He took both stitches out, and showed them to me. They were thicker material than what I was expecting. It was extremely uncomfortable when he had to open the speculum so wide. And then the tugging to get the stitches out was a bit uncomfortable. Other than that, it was no problem. Maybe 5 mins total. No spotting or cramping. So now I'm hoping I can get a full nights sleep since I haven't been able to in the last 2 nights because of my nerves. Dr says I have no restrictions now, so maybe this baby will come once I start going about my normal routine. Either way, I'm off to bed. Goodnight all!

dreavega - 214 days ago.
Just had a check up, cervix is measuring about 3.5 with no funneling so everything looked good! We also got a 4d picture of the baby's face, she is so adorable already! I uploaded it to my profile to share. We have an appointment next week at a place that does just 3d/4d/ sonos so I can't wait to get more!!

dreavega - 214 days ago.
Whoo hoo Beegee, good luck!!

elliebethl - 214 days ago.
Oh thank you beegee I feel much better after your post so excited for you and starting to feel a little excited that I can also get where you are. I am watching transformers and I have took up knitting again so will get a bit more of my baby quilt done and just need to take my mind off it. At least I know I needed the stitch and had it done and resting so done all I can but this one will be in my arms.

jellybeann - 214 days ago.
Beegee, yay I'm so excited for you! You beat IC and you'll will meet your baby very soon. Please keep us posted. Big hugs!

jessa521 - 214 days ago.
Best wishes, Beegee!! You'll do great. Keep us posted.

Beegee - 214 days ago.
Ok ladies. Today is D day. Cerclage is coming out at 4pm. I'm scared about the pain, I've heard both sides that it hurts like hell, and that it wasn't that bad. My fiance asked my OB if he was going to be wearing his catchers mitt just in case they cut the stitch and baby decided to come out. He laughed and said yes. Carseat is installed and I'm bringing my hospital bag just in case. Man I'm scared. Wish me luck!

Beegee - 214 days ago.
Ellie- try not to worry too much. I have a short cervix, ~1.5cm, and funneled since wk 18. I had the cerclage place at wk 15, followed by strict bedrest at wk 20. Let's just say I wasn't very good at the bed rest thing. I was up and about, and very active ad soon as I passed 24wks. I don't think you'll have a problem going back to work in an office environment to get a normal paycheck. Katrina- is 22wks really too late to get a cerclage, but they were willing to do it ay 21wks? That makes no sense to me. As for being in the clear, I would continue to take it easy. If you had an infection, your cervix is shortening, and you are contracting, then they shouldn't be waiting 2wks to scan you again. I'd push to get scanned weekly, but that's just me. Did they mention progesterone injections to prevent preterm labor? Either way best of luck keeping that little one cooking, and keep us updated

elliebethl - 215 days ago.
Precious03 i am worried about going back to work two weeks after the procedure as i work in an office and sit upright at the computor all day, which is probably a lot better than standing all day, but even so still putting weight all day on the cervix, the consultant said that bedrest only benifits you if you have funneling and that there is no proof that bedrest or going to work makes any difference. I am not sure but i know if i have to stay off on sick it will be a stuggle financialy, however if i am ok and then go back to work and there is shortening again when i do and they suggest bedrest then of course i will, we are being carefull with money even though we are moving into our own house and need carpets and vinal etc, we will just keep the horrid ones that are there for now and see how i go incase we end up skint. No it was not painful much at all really until the car journey home from hospital and then i had to sit back into a pillow and grip for dear life as i didn't want to sit directly on it, but i am much better now and feel normal nearly, i will avoid standing for long periods for the rest of the pregnancy as it causes a small amount of discomfort which then is worrying. Good luck with the cerclage it will be fine, don't worry to much like i did, i had it done at 15 weeks the same day we saw the shortening and i didn't have any time to worry before hand but i was shaking from the shock the whole time and the machine couldn't take my blood presure because of it. All that matters though is this baby not money and household things, if we have to scrape by for a year then we will, but we are not sure how we will cope with the mortgage and loan we will have at all yet let alone with me being on the sick, which is only about 116 pound a week, and normaly with maternity pay here you get 90% of your wages for the first six weeks, but i don't know if i will get that if i go strait to maternity leave from sick pay, i was close to letting the purchase fall through but we are renting at the moment and have given our notice and they are selling this house too so we would still have to move anyway. Fingers crossed i can stay at work just long enough and keep baby in without shortening too much, till i can go on maternity leave.

precious03 - 216 days ago.
Happy wknd ladies. Hopefully next wk I will be consulting with the dr about having the stitches put in. Maybe even have them done??? Ellie, I guess you had that done. I was under the impression that there really wouldn't be much pain associated with it. My reg OB said that as long as I didn't sit for a long period of time after having the C done I would be just fine. I have a wedding coming up and he said there should not be any problems. Now, I am nervous. I do hope that you get to feeling better. I had a C-section with my son and I was down for a while after leaving the hospital. A lot of pain. I am glad to see that everyone is continuing to remain pregnant until their last trimester. I just turned 21 wks and so excited to make it there. Every wk is a blessing for my precious unborn child.

elliebethl - 216 days ago.
Thanks guys it would be amazing if it lengthened next week. I am staying lying in bed most of the time my sister visited last night so I sat on the sofa but between now and next scan I am staying on modified bed rest defo no housework and we are finally moving into our own house with a huge airy bedroom in a couple of weeks and my only job is director and for one day I will need to be on my feet a lot more but not aloud to do anything so many people will be helping to clean both houses and unpack. I am dreading going back to work I just hope it's ok I'm so scared I am going to carry on shortening. All I can do is rest and pray there is no way to predict what is going to happen. I suppose one good thing is that I have never gone into ptl so it's just a case of holding it tight.
