Naming Your Baby

With so many options, there's no way I can narrow it down to just one!

Naming your baby can be both exciting and challenging for expectant parents. By now, you might have acquired a collection of books with thousands of baby names and meanings, searched the Internet high and low and received suggestions from friends and family. After all, the name that you choose for your baby will be the name that your child is called for the rest of her life—unless she chooses to change it as an adult.

Whether you are looking for a popular name or a unique name for your baby, there are some tips that you can follow to make sure you choose the perfect name for your little one:

  • What is the meaning of the name? Some names have positive meanings, while others can be more negative.
  • Does the name have personal meaning to you? Some expectant parents choose to honor their ancestors or other special people by naming their child after them.
  • Take nicknames into consideration.
  • Does the first, middle and last name or the first and last name spell out any words that might be considered undesirable?
  • Do the names sound nice together or could the child get picked on?
  • Is the name spelled in such a unique way that others will not be able to pronounce the child’s name?

Because there are thousands of possible names, narrowing it down to just one can be quite a challenge. Many expectant parents find that it makes the task at hand easier if they write down potential names on a piece of paper, leaving room to research the meaning of each. After doing that, go through and select the names that you like the most. If you have decided to give your child a middle name, pair your favorite names together to ensure that the initials do not spell anything distasteful. Continue to narrow your list down until you have selected the perfect name for your baby.

Some parents know what they will name their baby from the moment they find out they are expecting, while others choose to wait until they see their baby’s face after delivery. Take your time when selecting a name for your baby.

Hi, everyone. Not sure what I'm having yet but if its a girl it will be named Crystal Nevaeh and if its a boy Jacob Agustin. Agustin is my husbands name and he's insistant on naming the kid after himself (which I am not a fan of). But I plan to call my Jake or Jakie for short.

Just past 8 weeks but we are almost certain on Cinder Belladonna or Dravin Giger.

I just found out I'm pregnant and me and my fiance already had our names picked out before we got pregnant. If it's a boy we are going to call him Gariant Azure and if its a girl, Lillian Rosalie AKA Lily Rose.

My cousin recently told me about the program at http://savingmorethanbefore.com At her recommendation I signed up for their sampler program and I have to share the amazing results with everyone. Using this program last night for the first time, my husband and I had an overflowing cart of groceries and non food general items. In all it rang up to $538.16 but thanks to this program we only paid $ 32.88! We weren't the only ones shocked, the cashier's mouth dropped. It is literally about paying pennies on the dollar for everything!

it's a girl! i guess my baby boy name will have to wait. seriously...my husband is never going to agree to a cool baby girl name...we shall see. :) SO THRILLED for my baby girl!

mommymaggie - 788 days ago.
If we have a girl I want to name her Adelaide Harper, and if it's a boy we are stuck between Jude and Hudson. It seems like no one likes either of our boy names besides my boyfriend and I. It's so frustrating to finally settle on something, but then run it by family and have it shot down.

we're deciding on our boy/girl twin names! Drew Stephen for boy and it's between Kinley & Paige for girl?

jayrdub1979@hotmail.com - 796 days ago.
surprised more people are not commenting on this forum...hmmmm. i am nearly certain we will have a boy. his name will most likely be bauer. if we have a girl...she will probably be nameless until birth! :) haha.

esposabella - 859 days ago.

Jamisonsmommy - 948 days ago.
names are hard! me and my hubby had to sit down several times and go over tons of names and then narrow it down to like the top 15 or so and then come back the next day with fresh eyes and narrow it down again. We actually asked our 3 year old when we couldnt pick between 2 names and he kinda decided for us! lol

noemie18 - 949 days ago.

mcmommyof3 - 1040 days ago.
Hi everyone - I am trying to name boy/girl twins! We are settled on 'Liam' for the boy. Any suggestions for a girl name to go with it? We thought of 'Lauren' 'Darby' or 'Carlin (Carlee nickname)'. I like Kiera also but my hubby doesn't and it's getting uber-popular now. Thanks for the help!
