Towards the end of your pregnancy, it is a good idea to begin packing for your hospital stay. You should begin to pack your bags about a month before your due date. Packing for your stay can be a challenge if you do not allow yourself enough time to plan our what you would like to take with you. If you have experienced any type of preterm labor symptoms, you should have your bags packed earlier. Have your bag packed, closed up and placed in your car--you never know when you will be headed for the hospital to give birth!
Mom`s Bag For Labor
- Health insurance card
- Registration papers for hospital
- Camera and film
- Video recorder
- Massage supplies—lotion, wooden massagers
- Lip balm or chap stick
- Crossword puzzle or magazines
- CD`s and a CD player
- Childbirth notes from birthing class
- Hair brush and clips
- Glasses, contacts and solution
- Toothbrush, toothpaste, floss
- Bed pillows (use a colored pillow case to distinguish from hospital pillows)
- Robe and slippers (non-skid)
- Calling card
- Address book
- Phone + charger
Mom`s Bag For After Delivery
- Underwear
- Nursing bra
- Nursing pads
- Nursing pillow
- Nightgown
- Hair care products
- Comfortable clothes
- Shower cap
- Make up
- Deodorant
- Baby`s memory book
- Going home outfit (something you could wear when you were 5 months pregnant)
Baby`s Bag
- Clothes for hospital pictures
- Clothes for baby to wear home
- Extra outfits
- Booties/socks
- Hat
- Mittens to prevent scratching
- Blanket (2)
- Car seat (MUST)
- Pacifiers
- Diapers if your hospital does not provide
- Baby wipes if your hospital does not provide
Labor Partner
- Clothes
- Pyjamas if staying over
- Toothbrush
- Deodorant
- Take out menus
- Snacks
- Change for calls or vending machines
- cell phone and charger
- Watch with second hand to time contractions
The hospital will provide disposable panties and sanitary pads for the mothers during her hospital stay. Most hospitals also provide shampoo, toothpaste, soap and lotion if you do not bring your own. They are comparable to what you would receive in a hotel. Diapers are provided for the baby and some hospitals provide baby wipes as well. If baby wipes are not provided, washcloths are always readily available. Vaseline and gauze are provided for circumcision care and alcohol wipes are provided for cord stump care. If you choose to formula feed, ready-to-use bottles of formula are available for the baby. Babies are given cloth t-shirts and receiving blankets to use while in the hospital also. Some hospitals will offer breast pads and manual breast pumps for free of charge to the mother.

razor and shaving cream is another thing I didn't see on the list. You may not be concerned about yours legs, but I know I sweat easily and was happy to be able to shave my arm pits. mimimorrow1985 -

Also a good idea for the partner and for your self is to bring a swim suit. When my sister was in labor the water from the shower helped ease her labor pains and having her husband in there with her rubbing her back made a huge difference. mimimorrow1985 -

i brought my own towels i wasnt given any in hospital and never asked for them not sure if they provided them or not but u def need a shower after delivery when u r able to that is.... rosa16 -

thought i would be the furst to add a comment here-I have a 15 month old. When i packed for my hospital stay, I didn't know WHAT to pack. The one thing i WISHED i had was adult DEPENDS. I bled so much, and i'm TINY-WAY too tiny for those HUGE pads and big net panties they give you...those didn't do SQUAT for me. so, BRING DEPENDS!
