As the excitement sets in, people comment that you have the pregnancy glow. What exactly does that mean?
In addition to other changes in your skin that are common during pregnancy, many women experience this phenomenon. While a pregnancy glow is not something that every woman experiences, it is a common occurrence. A natural blush appears due to the increased blood volume that is developed during pregnancy. In addition, the increase in hormones causes the oil glands to become more active, which leads to a glowing appearance of the skin.
If pregnancy glow does not occur naturally, you can achieve the look by following the steps below:
1) Drink water! We all know that water is good for us during pregnancy, but did you know that water will also hydrate your skin? Hydrated skin will enhance your natural glow. Try to drink at least eight full glasses of water each day.
2) Take care of your skin. Diligently apply a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or greater daily. Even when the sun is not shining brightly, UV rays are damaging to your skin. Wash your face morning and night with an oil-free cleanser and moisturize afterwards. If you find that your skin is more oily than normal, use a water-based moisturizer, but don’t skip in hopes of decreasing oil production. Blotting pads will help to absorb excess oil on your face as the day progresses, if needed.
3) Makeup is your friend! Applying a light coat of makeup will give you a quick pick-me-up and will help add the glow that you are looking for. Use shimmer or bronzer to give your face a healthy glow. Only a small amount is necessary. Because your skin is more prone to breakouts during pregnancy, you may choose to cover up the blemishes with concealer or foundation.
4) Smile! You are beautiful and pregnancy looks wonderful on you!
