Planning a water birth for our first child (a boy), so far so good. We are half way there now and I really hope the rest of our pregnancy goes as smoothly.

I had an amazing experience with my water birth. It doesn't really help with the pain but it helps with your mental state, which is so important at that time. I had my son at a free standing birthing clinic affiliated with a hospital but since it was so small I was the only person giving birth at the time. I am now on my second pregnancy and am too old to do it again but I wish I could.

Holographic Breathing is making some head way in the area of childbirth. It is great for reducing the pain of labour and generally helping in childbirth. It also works well in conjunction with water birth.
In 2009 I taught the midwives at The Birth Centre - founded by Caroline Flint in south London. This was the first birth centre to be formed and Caroline Flint is a founder member and activist of the natural birth movement. This has also inspired others, and now over 30 birth centres and hospitals have become involved and are passing Holographic Breathing on to mothers. In the new year I will be starting therapist trainings for people who want to be therapists in this breathing/healing system either for birth, meditation or healing. Free Audio Seminars and lectures can also be downloaded from my web site at www.holographic-breathing.com

I am hoping for a home water birth. I wanted one with my first but she was 2 weeks overdue, so had to go into hospital to be induced. Hoping it all goes to plan this time round!! My birth pool is sitting in the cupboard just waiting to be used!!

i had a water birth, can i just say that its not good for people who cant handle the pain! i thought i would be fine but i had a bad time, the pain for me was unbearable! dont want to put anyone off but this was my 2nd birth and i was traumatised for days from the pain with this, i had my 1st in bed with morphine and gas and air and it was much better for me! also if it hadnt been for my husband keeping me afloat i would have drowned, i could not keep still and my head kept going under the water when i was having a contraction!

I had a waterbirth with my second, and I highly recommend it! It helped me relax so much! My midwife refers to it as an 'aqua-dural', because it really does help the pain that much! The only thing that I would change is the tub that I gave birth in. I wouldn't do it in a regular tub/jacuzzi tub...it's just too hard! I ended up with bruises all over my knees and forearms (from resting on the edge of the tub)! I would use a La Bassine inflatable tub, and that's what I plan to do next time around. The whole thing is inflatable, including the floor, it's bigger, and it has handles on the inside for helping with position changes. Other than that, I wouldn't change a thing!

I had a water birth about 2months ago. It doesnt cost a cent here none of my maternity stuff did. If anyone has any questions feel free to leave a message on my page. The water helped me to relax inbetween contractions. This was my 1st and i didnt tear at all i swear it was because of the water

finkleberry -yeah i agree, when i had my 1st in hospital the ambulance crew told me to start pushing even thou i had no urge,so i think thats why i was cut when i got to the hospital but the home birth i felt the urge to push n at least 3 bubs were out,I always tell ppl to listen to their body n they will know when to push.

roxi- I thought it was the opposite! I had episiotomy in hospital..not sure if it was necessary . I had a waterbirth last month with a big baby and didn't tear at all.. I thought the water might have helped that. Did perineal massage in the last trimester. I think tearing might have something to do with pushing to hard maybe when you haven't had enough time to stretch.

Ok- so i don't mean to scare anyone that want's a water birth but a firend of mine just had water bith and she said it was good for pain releife but as the water make syour skin more strechy then is before you tore more than what she would have if it was a normal delivery. I just wondered if this is rare or if it is a normal down side to having a water birth?

Hi there :) James was born 10th dec '08 in the birthing pool, it was a wonderful experience, I really found the water relaxed me and gave relief for my back ache. I delievered in the Midwifery Led Unit (the only 1 in Northern Ireland) thankfully it was at my local hospital, we didnt think we would get in the pool, theres been a baby boom here and the unit only has 1 pool, they did have big bath in the rooms which I used for early relief and could have delievered in if the pool wasnt free, the pool did give alot more space too turn around in and squat in. James was delieved within 30mins of being in the pool, he came out like a bullet when the midwife lifted him up and put him on my chest he just looked around and yawned!! He did let out a little whine! He was so chilled out! He's a real wee water baby and loves his baths! I did have an internal tear that required stitche, and it is a bit
inconvenient getting in and out for examination not too mention chilly whe your out but all in all Id do it again, it was a less stressful transtion for James and Neil my partner was still able too be involved 100%. Good luck to all who want a water birth hope you have a good delivery :)

I hope I can afford a water birth and that it is a positive experience for me as I have read about with other mommies. I also saw some vids on YouTube...interesting.

I had a water birth 4 days ago and it was amazing. I was crying for pain relief so they told me to get in the tub and I DID NOT feel anymore pain for the rest of my labor. I highly recommend it to all women!

I just recenlty had a waterbirth at Hospital and it was amazing. i was crying my eyes out as i could not lay down and the pain was agonising. They ran the bath for me and the greatest thing is, is that i could have it as warm or as cold as i liked it. I had it so warm it was soothing on my back as i had lower back pain. It is a great thing to have and i think all women should have a water Birth if you have any questions about it dont hesitate to ask me on my profile!
