Tests before pregnancy
Bacterial-Vaginosis-Screen
Bacterial vaginosis is an overgrowth of a normal bacteria in the vagina that causes a vaginal discharge. Bacterial vaginosis is relatively common in both pregnant and non-pregnant women.
Blood-Type-and-Antibody-Screen
If the mother and baby's blood types are different, they both may experience problems. This could also happen if the mother has antibodies (antiglobulins) that will react with antigens (proteins or factors) on the baby`s red blood cells.
Cystic-Fibrosis-Carrier-Screening-(CF)
Your doctor may offer you a screening test for cystic fibrosis (CF). Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disease that can severely affect breathing and digestion.
Gonorrhea,-Chlamydia,-and-Syphilis
These are three common sexually transmitted diseases (STD's). These diseases are caused by bacterial infections and can lead to a miscarriage or can infect the baby prior to or during delivery.
Hemoglobin
During pregnancy, a woman`s hemoglobin needs to transport enough oxygen to meet both her and her baby`s needs. If a woman does not have enough hemoglobin, she is said to be anemic.
Hepatitis-B-Screening
Hepatitis B is an infection that causes an inflammation of the liver.
HIV
HIV is the virus that causes AIDS
Immunity-to-Rubella-(German-Measles)
Rubella infections during childhood usually cause mild symptoms. However, if a woman becomes infected with Rubella during the first three months of her pregnancy and does not have immunity to the virus, the baby is at risk of having serious birth defects or dying.
Ovulation-Predictor-Test
The ovulation predictor test is a home-use test that measures the Luteinizing Hormone (LH) in your urine.
Pap-Test
done to screen the cervix (opening to the uterus) for cancer, pre-cancerous changes, inflammation, and some sexually transmitted diseases.
Urine-Screening
During prenatal visits, the expectant mother will be asked to give a urine specimen. The sample will be screened for the presence of sugar and/or protein.
Varicella-Zoster-Virus-(chicken-pox)
Varicella zoster virus (VZV) is what causes the illness known as chicken pox.

Did anyone have a total blood work up with the pre-pregnancy bloodwork? I am a vegitarian and I eat very little protein at all, so I am worried that I may be anemic. My doctor didn't request one...should I ask? sweetlemon53 -
