When can we try to conceive after a loss?

Making the decision to conceive after the loss of a pregnancy can be stressful for many couples. Feelings of anxiety, hope, fear and anticipation are all common. Whether a prior pregnancy was lost as a result of miscarriage, stillbirth or some other reason, there are others who can relate to the feelings you have.

It is recommended that couples wait atleast three to six months before trying to conceive another child. This time will give your body time to heal from the previous pregnancy, as well as gain emotional control of the feelings that have occured as a result of the loss. Because the uterus needs time to recover and the endometrial lining needs time to gain strength, it is wise to wait atleast three menstrual cycles before trying to conceive.

A couple may want to seek medical help if they have experienced two or more miscarriages, are over the age of 35, have a chronic illness or infection that could affect the outcome of pregnancy or have fertility complications.

Because of the fears that will be associated with becoming pregnant again, it is only natural to be scared, paranoid and cautious during another pregnancy. You might want to consider waiting to make preparations for the baby's arrival. Some couples are not ready to purchase baby items and get the nursery decorated just right until very late in the pregnancy, or even after the baby is born. Doctors are generally very open to the suggestions and requests of their patients, especially those that have suffered a loss in the past. Ask your caregiver to monitor you more closely and if necessary, request additional tests or procedures to help put your mind at ease.

EM didnt give up on me and neither did the others and here I am .. almost ready to come out of my slump. I think I might test tomorrow too. lol. I got a test so why not. I know everyone will be here to catch me if I have a heart attack and die from a BFP.

thanks so much... it is sooooooooo freakin early! I hope its not too good to be true!! Im so happy now tho... gonna go day to day I have to go back Monday for another hcg and my progesterone was 9, so they said they arent concerned just yet.

Danielle, I'll bet you Oed with that first temp spike and that drop on the 16th was implantation... So cool! That possitive OPK could have actually picked up on the HCG and not your LH... check out peeonastick.com about the OPKs as HPTs

Thanks my little life savers. You truely help me see the light during these dark moments. I just had a little chat with my sister and I think she nailed it on the head. This is what she said ' that is the challenge with strong, busy adn independant women sometimes. I expect more of themselves all the time...and have trouble allowing ourselves to feel down, depressed and ready to give up....or other emotions like deprieved or needy. I too understand in a different way that life can just sometimes feel too overwhelming.....a dark hole can seem so much better. After getting yourself out of the dark hole already you have to expect that you will sometimes fall back in....and realise that is okay. One moment and minute and day at a time and you will get y ourself out. ' She is totally right. I expect more from myself and put too much pressure on myself each day and when something doesnt work out like a relationship or a work issue I blame myself.

LADIES!!!!!!! YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BELIEVE THIS!!!!!! I CAN BARELY BELIEVE IT MYSELF!.... today is CD21. My RE said that this is the earliest day a hpt could come up +. So, i woke up this morning, took 2 different hpts with my fmu and the prettiest, faintest line showed up!!!! I RAN to CVS bought a digital hpt and then off to the doc who drew an hCG and Prog level. 'pregnant' was seen on my hpt!!! and the doc just called to tell me that my hcg was 15.5 which is indicitive of 1 week conception!!!!!!! I AM FLIPPING OUT in soooo many ways. Ive been biting my fingertips all morning not to type it.. I just cant believe it! I got a BFP!!!! can you freakin believe it???

Hi girls -- for JENN, EM whoever can help me - my temp went WAY low this morning. Last month it did the same thing, but I spotted the day before the temp drop and then the day of the temp drop - I started before 8:00 a.m. It is now 3:00 in the afternoon and still no AF - no signs no spot nothing. How long after a temp drop will AF start? I am so confused. Thanks for your help!
