Help: Adding to your profile

All members have a profile. You can tell something about yourself, add some music or a video to it, add a ticker or a survey. On your profile you can click the `edit my profile` link to edit it.
Note: Mac users will have to use the Firefox browser for this to work. (free at www.firefox.com)



When you click on it the editor will show:



Let's start with some basics; Deleting.

1. Select the text `My profile Replace this text with your own` with your mouse. The background turns blue:
   
2. Press the `Delete` key or the `Backspace` key on your keyboard:
   
3. Now add a few words to see if it all works. We use the T icon to change the color, and use a different font size. Press the `Save Changes` button when you're done.
   

It worked!

In the next part we'll add photo's and gadgets from other websites.

Adding photo's from the internet: Part 1

Adding photos from the internet is not difficult. Let's add a photo of a 2006 Lotus Exige S. Go to Yahoo or Google to find a picture that fits on your page. Note that your profile is 650 pixels wide, so it's best to use photos that are smaller. If you use Google image search it will tell you the size of each picture.

Click with the right mouse button on the Lotus.



Click on `Copy`. You can close the website since we copied the photo and don't need it anymore. Go back to your editor and click with the right mouse button where you want to photo to appear. A window will pop up:



Click on `Paste`. The photo should be there now:



All done! Note: There are several websites that don't allow others to use their images like MSN, Yahoo, many screen saver & background websites. They protected their images. If you use one of those sites, it will only show a red cross instead of the actual photo. Go to another site and try again.

Adding photo's from the internet: Part 2

There is another way of adding photos. This is very handy for photos you've uploaded to Imageshack or photobucket. (See how upload photos to imageshack on the help page Help: Get started) Suppose we've uploaded a photo of one of our children to imageshack. Imageshack gave us the url to the photo:

Do the following to add this to your profile:

1. Click the camera icon in your editor.
2. Paste the whole url, starting with http and ending with jpg.
3. Click Preview
4. Click OK:

Adding photo's from the internet: Part 3

The last way to add photos is by using HTML. You recognise html code by the smaller- and bigger than signs.
Example: <font color=green>Hello</font>
When using html we are not limited to photos, but we can also add videos, glittertext, pregnancy tickers, slideshows etc.
We're about to add a video from YouTube.
Find a nice video on YouTube. We're looking for `Holly Dolly`.

1. Click with the left mouse button on the url underneath `Embed`. It will tun blue.
2. Click with the right mouse button on the blue url. A window pops up.
3. Click with the left mouse button on `Copy`

You can close the YouTube website.

Go back to your editor and click the HTML icon.



This is your profile, built from HTML code. If you look at the code you probably recognise the things you added earlier.

We're about to add the video code at the very end of the page.

1. Click with your left mouse button at the right of the last instruction on the page. Right click on the same location.
2. A window will pop up. Select `Paste`

Save your changes. It should now be there:



Adding Glitter text

We are about to add glitter text.

Go to from http://www.sparklee.com/ and make some glitter text. We make a `Welcome!!` text.



Enter your text, colors and size and click on the `Create Glitter Text` button.
Dig your way through the adverts to find the Direct Link bit, as shown in the picture above.



Left click on the url
Click with the right mouse button on the blue url and click `Copy`
Go back to your editor



Click where you want the text to appear.
Click on the camera
Right click in the url field. A window pops up.
Click `Paste`



Click preview
Click OK and save your page.



All done!
