It's a beautiful and unique name, with powerful meaning; messenger of God. Most people know me as Angel. My parents only called me Angelique if I were in trouble.

Even after I introduce myself, people always repeat it back to me completely wrong. So, I still mostly go by Angel, which my husband loves.

My parents were going to name me Jessica. Much happier with Angelique.

To the Angelique's who hate their name...I promise you will grow to both love and appreciate it. Everybody else loves it, and you will too. I wish I grew up being called Angelique instead of Angel. It's hard to go back to your birth name after going by a nickname all your life.

I was named after a book and a film that my late dad took my mum to see when she was pregnant with me. So it wasn't just plucked out of nowhere. It means something.

Constant mispronounciations. It is a unique name, so it is hard to find it (as a kid) on pencils and notepads, fun stuff like that. It isn't Angela or Angie, so you kinda feel like your name is 'wrong' all the time. I am 32 and go by Angie now. Not very many people know my name, and I don't like it when people say it... It is just kind of a geeky name.

I think it is an easy name to tease... oddly... as soon as I went by Angie... all the teasing stopped and I was quite popular in high school.

It is a pretty name, I hear that all the time now that I am older. I personally had a hard time fitting in when I was younger and having an uncommon name just makes it that much harder to 'fit in'.
