i had trouble pronouncing my name as a kid and when i'd introduce myself it'd take me a lot of repeating and clarifying for them to understand that i was not saying 'melissa', i was saying 'marisa'; often i gave up and let adults call me melissa, i'll still respond to it now if you refer to me as melissa
