This is the last week of your first trimester and your baby weighs 14 to 20 grams. The crown-to-rump length of your growing baby is 2.6 to 3.1 inches. Your baby is now about the size of a peach. Fetal growth is amazing from now through about the 24th week of pregnancy.
A 13 week old fetus by SONOReal 3D ultrasound imaging
At this point of your pregnancy, there is a steady flow of pregnancy hormones in your bloodstream. Your body will adjust to the changes and morning sickness might stop and other early symptoms will begin to ease. Because the second trimester is approaching, feelings of anxiety or nervousness may also diminish. You have probably gained some weight by now. You are losing your waist and your clothing is probably fitting snugly.
There is a milky membrane that surrounds your baby. It is pierced by the umbilical cord and is made up of two layers, which are fused together. Your placenta provides most of the nutrients and oxygen that your baby needs. By this week, the placenta is well formed and ready to take over hormone manufacture from your ovaries. The placenta will produce progesterone and estriol. These hormones will be crucial in the maintenance of your pregnancy. Tissue that will form your baby's bones is being laid down, especially around the head and limbs. The nose and chin are becoming more prominent. Your baby's eyelids meet and fuse together and they will not open again for nearly four months. The eyes started out on the side of your baby's head and they are now moving closer together on the face. The ears come to lie in their normal position on the sides of the head. If examined outside of the womb, you will be able to distinguish male from female at this time.
The sockets for all twenty teeth are formed in the gums, and vocal cords are beginning to form.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I do plan on handling her in time. I have let him deal with it and he has done very poorly..I feel so sorry for him. I could write a book about some of the horrible things she has said to me with a smile on her face. Oh yeah and his sis is even worse. They are just miserable people and I refuse to be a part of it!

Hey ladies :) Speaking of the nub theory, I just wanted to share a neat site with y'all: in-gender.com will let you upload your u/s picture and people can tell you what they think. There's supposedly some good sonographers on there who can tell boy/girl. lol, it's a fun way to pass the time until we get to find out for sure! They all 100% say boy for me (my sonographer and I both saw BIG boy bits, lol), so it was neat to have tons of people see the same thing!
waitingfornumber2 - 4.3 hours ago
So glad to be in week 13, I have an u/s on Tuesday, it would be awesome if they could tell us if it's a boy or girl, but i'm not counting on it! I think my hubby and I decided on names, Carson Dayne for a boy and Adlee Paige for a girl!!!
Third - 6.6 hours ago
Just wantede to post this link - it's to a site which explains the 'nub theory' and trying to determine gender from a 12 week scan. VERY interesting.. My scan (on my profile, the second pic) suggests girl by the horizontal angle it's pointing, thats only if it's not part of a leg bone... I still feel like it's a boy anyway.. So I'm not getting my hopes up. Apparently, if interpreted correctly, there's a 75% chance it's correct.. go have a look and have a little fun staring furiously at your scan pictures LOL The all important link: http://www.parentdish.co.uk/2009/06/03/nub-theory-baby-gender-prediction-at-12-weeks/

Momma that is good to hear...kinda...I hate drama. I don't get a long well with my in laws either but we live 8 hrs away so I don't have to deal with them much. I would stand your ground though. Her attitude is not making you two split so she is just wasting energy.
thinkpink - 12.4 hours ago
BTW...she even opened up after our wedding and said she never thought that I was the girl for Mark, but she was wrong!
That had to be hard for her to say to me.
Brings tears to my eyes.
thinkpink - 12.4 hours ago
Perfect advice maz! Spoken like a true lady. If you try to get hubby involved, that could put a wedge between you and him if he doesn't handle it the way you would like. Think about it. It is hard for a man to stand up to mama. I know my boys are VERY loyal to me and they are so young. That bond only gets stronger. I dealt with that nonsense myself years ago and I was young and timid. My husband doesn't talk to his mother now for other reasons (her choice) but he always knew how I was treated.
The funny thing is right before they stopped talking (10 years ago now) we were starting to get alond very well. She has never met her grandchildren even though I have offered to stop by or meet her for lunch. She relays messages thru my sister in law that it is between her and Mark. Her Loss the old bat! We moved 400 miles away from her 11 years ago and it's one of the best things we did. I always made an attempt to bond with her though, inviting her over to stay and taking time off work to spend time with her. It was nice to have one on one time with her even though it was very stressful to anticipate.
I would cook dinners and do gardening with her, go shopping, and sometimes we would all go out for meals. It worked for us! But I handled my own relationship with her, never putting it on my husband. ;)

That comment about someone miscarrying at 14 wks really freaked me out. :( But, statistically it's very uncommon, I need to remind myself of that!
feelinweepy - 17 hours ago
Momma, I agree with Dawn, this is an issue your husband needs to settle. Sounds like some major boundaries need to be set to keep you mil's destructive comments/attitudes away from your fragile new family. (oooh, let me at her!!)
thinkpink - 18.4 hours ago
ok,gonna try to sleep again so see you in the morning in week 14. Thank GOD!!! When is this morning sickness gonna stop?
thinkpink - 18.5 hours ago
So here I am at midnight checking comments because I have a nasty cough and can't sleep and you have me cracking up!
Thanks for understanding my point momma. I figured I would jump to the point because I was too tired to add anything else.
I knew you would understand.
btw...I wouldn't put much weight into hubby standing up to his mother. Most men would have a hard time with that and so I say grab the 'bull' (ha) by the horns! I trust you will when it's time! ;)
dawnp - 21.8 hours ago
momma...p.s. your mil sounds like a real ass!!!!!!
dawnp - 21.8 hours ago
momma, id let your hubby handle it..kinda shows that HEs not gonna tolerate his mother speaking to his wife like that. if not then just tell her the only mistake you made was not checking out his family before you married him!! haaa
mommastacy - 22.5 hours ago
chrisimarie25--you are reading it wrong lol. she was telling me to speak my mind with rude people. like my MIL.
mommastacy - 22.5 hours ago

thinkpink - 23.7 hours ago
Or how bout this. I've come a long way listening to this crap and I'm ready to tell you to go to hell cause I'm not goig to make the mistake of listening to another dumb thing that you have to say! hahaha I know I'm crazy. It floors me how dense some women are to say such rude things!
thinkpink - 23.8 hours ago
momma..Have you looked in the mirror? Oh to mil, I think your making a mistake speaking this nonsense to me!
But I won't make the mistake to listen to it. hahaha
mommastacy - 1 days ago
maz...my MIL, who hates me for whatever reason, is upset that I have not miscarried yet. She said, well you come pretty far this time, I hope your ready, you know we all make mistakes....Soo what does that mean??
mommastacy - 1 days ago
Gailn123--I have one better...I feel huge. I am eating like a hog, I can never get full. I had a girl at work that said, 'well I wasn't gonna say anything, but you are getting kinda pudgy'. And she is a mammoth! I felt that was really really rude!!

I love Seth Michael Xavier, very strong name. I do not like Gavin too much or Caleb.
Just my opinion. Nice to see Michael again a traditional name. ;)

hopefultob- i was told you can sleep on your stomach until it is no longer comfortable. Im not sure if thats EXACTLY true, but It didnt effect my friends baby one bit and she slept on her stomach until 7-8 months. by then it was just impossible because of the belly!! lol
ladykbee - 1 days ago
Rebecca 1989 thats so silly, I can't believe that, thats so silly, how on earth can you prove it. I'm glad in the uk we don't have to have medical insurance we can just go to the hospital and when I was worried at the start they done me blood tests and got me in for two early scans to check all was okay
hopeful2b - 1 days ago
Anybody know when you should stop sleeping on your stomach?
rebecca1989 - 1 days ago
Thanks ladykbee, i have a special situation though, i never got a positive on a pregnancy test (my mom had the same issues while she was pregnant, and she had 6 healthy kids), so since i never got a positive test the doctors i've been to won't even do an ultrasound for me since i don't have insurance. And i can't get free health care until i can 'prove' that i'm pregnant...
ladykbee - 1 days ago
Rebecca 1989 I'm sure its okay but you still need to get it checked out they will prob do a scan to make sure your both okay, let me know your okay xx

I had some little sharp cramps last night which i assumed where from too many prunes, lol, but then this morning i had a little bit of pink mucus when i wiped, has anyone had this?
gailn-123 - 1 days ago
Ok I really need to vent to people who understand! I ran into my friend the other night, and the first thing that comes out of her mouth is you don't even look like your pregnent infact you look skinner now than before you were even pregnant! Which I thought was rude so I said well I have MS really bad and she says are you sure its not just all in your head?! I really hate to think that I was really that big to her to begin with! I think maybe I should just forget about it but it really hurt my feelings!!
Our1stAngel - 1 days ago
Actually on the sick note, Ive been experiencing the weirdest thing... just since this week. I will eat something and not feel the slightest bit sick and then without warning puke. It random (as in not everything i eat and with different types of food) But no nausea before and i feel great afterwards. I think i have the pickiest eater inside me... lol
Our1stAngel - 1 days ago
cant sleep either ladies... just cant stay comfortable. All night is conscious tossing and turning. every little thing wakes me up... :( last night my DH was talking in his sleep-- it was about work, and it was hilarious to watch him hold a conversation with someone who isnt there. And when he talks in his sleep, you can always understand him. which makes it funnier.

christimarie25 - 1 days ago
Maz...I hear you. 180 some days is a long time! I just hope time speed up soon. I had a crazy dream last night my mom was pregnant and she wanted to deliver the baby 4 months early and we had to wait at the hospital till it was ready to go...4 months! lol! Crazy. What preggo does to us its amazing. I can't wait to feel peanut!
BabyCash - 1 days ago
For the longest time I was listening to the placenta beat and thinking my baby was slow! The placenta is about or slightly under 100 BPM. Tilt the doppler around until you hear a faster beat. If you've got the placenta, you can't be far so keep trying!
maz1982 - 1 days ago
hay our1stangle i just googled what you said at it said mums heart beat can be anywhere from 100 and down and babies is 120 and up give it another go you might have missed a few beats as it does go really really fast! try now and give us a shout
Our1stAngel - 1 days ago
Got my new doppler in the mail yesterday and had to use it RIGHT away... Heard baby's heartbeat right away, however, i only counted about 100 beats/minute. Is that normal?? I thought baby was just sleeping possibly, because Im positive it wasnt mine, mine was MUCH slower (didnt count it though..) Im sure its fine, just curious....

Remember she can't punch a preg woman! My friend lou got wasted to the point we were at a gig when she pole vaulted over the bouncer to get back stage, about 1/2 hour later she got kicked out and landed on her ass she then downed 3 shots and 2 vodkas and passed out! i got a call the next day saying oh s##t i'm preg! rose lou is perfect!

haha no she went and bought like 3 more tests and then called me back super excited and then freaking out because she was trashed the night before, but her daughter is beautiful and seems no worse for the wear:) She has been yelling at me for the past year to get knocked up so her daughter can have a friend to play with and I am seeing her Sunday. . it's time to tell her and she's gonna probably punch me for not telling her sooner:)
