Born & Birth stories

You are now in your second trimester! Your baby's crown to rump length is 3.2 to 4.5 inches long and he weighs approximately 1 ounce now. Your baby is about the size of the average fist.

Now that you are into your second trimester, you may be starting the best part of your pregnancy. You will probably start to feel more energetic and you may get the `pregnancy glow`. Your uterus is beginning to swell week by week and you can follow its progress by locating the top of the uterus. The position of the top of the uterus will continue to gradually move up your abdomen, from beneath the pubic line to above your navel. Maternity clothes are probably necessary now. You might also experience hemorrhoids, which are painful dilated blood vessels around or inside the anus.

Bones are formingAt this time, your baby's face is becoming more developed. The cheeks and bridge of his nose appear and the ears move from the sides of his neck to much higher on his head. The eyes continue to come closer together. A big development from this week onward is the development of lanugo. Lanugo is the fine hair that grows over almost your entire baby. The hairs grow in whirled patterns that follow the grain of his skin. These patterns later give way to your baby's fingerprints. The lanugo will be shed before birth and replaced by thicker, coarser hairs. Your baby's thyroid gland has matured and starts to produce hormones. If your baby is a boy, the prostate will appear and the ovaries descend from the abdomen into the pelvis in baby girls.

If you are having the Chorionic Villus sampling test (to check for Down's syndrome) it's done round about now.

The embryo`s soft cartilage is now being replaced with ` real` chalk bones.

Your baby has eyebrows, but no eyelashes. Fine, light hair also begins to grow.

Hello ladies. A few more weird questions for you. Is it ok if i can use Veet to remove unwanted hair? Shaving is such a schlep. Its like im growing hair at top speed!

Ladies I finally bought health insurance,..it kicks n 3/1,..but the better news is that I got an appt and payin' cash on 2/23,..EXTREMELY EXCITED! It's the same OBGYN office but a diff. chick answered this time! The other girl told me I could'nt be seen w/o insurance which I didn't understand and I told her I thought that was bogus! Well,..it is! She'll have probs with me ;) I'll make sure that I tell the OBGYN how much pain and suffering she (the recept) caused me for the last 6 weeks! I mean everytime I called she told me NO! :( I even missed an important test (Nuchal Trans.) and I'm gonna be 37 this May. It's very important esp. at my age. Well,..I feel flutters here and there,..but nothin' major. But I do hear the baby like 4 times a week with my fetal doppler! :) Well Ladies feel well! XOXOX

cramerbabynumber1 - 4.4 hours ago
Hey ladies, this is my first time posting on here. I'm 14 weeks and 3 days with my first baby! I haven't seen or felt the baby move, but during my last drs visit while listening to the heart beat we heard a WHOOOOSH. The dr said that was the baby kicking. Minus being sick all the time it's all so exciting!

DesertSky - 7.6 hours ago
Hayley...about the paint - I agree with suprisedmommy make sure you've got plenty of ventilation. Wearing a mask like you mentioned is good too. Also, I would recommend buying low VOC (volatile organic compounds) paint. Regular paint continues to 'off-gas' well after it has dried and isn't good for you or baby when he/she arrives. It's also less toxic than the regular stuff while you are doing the painting. It's a little more expensive than regular paint, though.

DesertSky - 7.7 hours ago
collegeprincess27 and Hayley0807-Thanks for the advice. I did call my doc-they told me if I don't improve by tomorrow that I need to come in. However, I finally started feeling more hunger pains than nausea this evening. I'm sipping my water and getting rehydrated. Feeling much, much better. Thanks! :)

dayna349 - 8.6 hours ago
doc says that everything looks good, so he told me to schedule an ultrasound for 18 wks. will get to see the baby for the first time and possibly find out what it is:)health insurance will kick in right about that time:)

BecNed, i know where my babies heartbeat is because i have heard it several times and i still have trouble finding it even though it's always in the same place.. lol. SID I got the Angel Sounds doppler and it works really well, i've been able to hear the heartbeat since i got the thing which was about at 11 1/2 - 12 weeks..

rcazmom - 10 hours ago
Liandre, being overweight won't make it hard for you to feel the baby. I was overweight with my 4th baby and I could feel him move but others couldn't. I am still overweight and an feel little flutters from time to time. It's just different for everyone.

SIDbaby - 10 hours ago
collegeprincess27, Yes, Yes, Yes, I am having sexual dreams!!!!

SIDbaby - 10 hours ago
BecNEd > At my 9 week appt my dr was trying to find the heartbeat and it took a long time. I could have sworn that I heard the beating, but he said that was blood vessels. So maybe that was what your hearing? He finally found the babies heartbeat in one small area so keep trying! What doppler did you buy? I really want to get one!

BecNEd - 12.1 hours ago
So we finally got our fetal heart monitor yesterday. The first time I tried it I couldn't hear anything but the baby moving. Boy was 'he' active. It had to be the baby because I didn't hear any noises anywhere else. Later yesterday I listened again to see if we could find the heartbeat. We did. But it seemed we were only hearing half the heart. Instead of hearing 'lug-dug' we would have only heard 'lug'. We figured it was 100 beats per min. Which I know is low. Could it be he was turned so we couldn't hear the full heart beat? It wasn't mine. I listened to my heart just to be sure. It was a complete differ rhythm. Thoughts? Just curious. Not worried. I'm very interested in medical stuff. Should have been a nurse or EMT. LOL!!!

collegeprincess27 - 13 hours ago
Anyone else having sexual dreams I am not sure if it because I am preggers or just haven't felt like having sex but the dreams are getting pretty naughty makes me feel like i haven't slept

SIDbaby - 13.1 hours ago
I just feel like I need to feel the movement to know everything is ok. Having an ultrasound on Saturday, hoping to find the sex and see the baby MOVE. Last ultrasound he/she was laying face down and barely moving. Tech was trying to wake her/him up but he/she only budged a little. Guess I am scared........

hotmessmomma - 15 hours ago
sidbaby same here nothing but with my first it was 18 weeks 2nd 16 weeks and when I lost Kadin in july at 17 weeks I just started feeling him at 16 weeks so Im guessing 16 weeks again but thats only 2 more weeks:)

HavingAnotherOne - 15.2 hours ago
I haven't felt any movement yet either SID, but i did dream last night that i could see the baby moving and it was doing gymnastics in my belly.. I can't wait until i can sit and watch my belly move, it is the best part about being pregnant for me!!!

SIDbaby - 15.6 hours ago
I am at 14 weeks 4 days and I havent felt a thing! 3RD baby, but I checked my journal for my 2nd baby and I didnt feel anything until about 16 weeks. I check everyday, I will scream and be so happy when I can finally feel this little booger moving!

HavingAnotherOne - 15.8 hours ago

Nikki.Dean2 - 16.4 hours ago

surprisedmommy25 - 17.1 hours ago
hayley- i painted while i was preggo with my first. as long as the room is vented well you should be fine

Hayley0807 - 17.2 hours ago
Does anyone know if it's okay to paint while your pregnant if you wear a facemask?

HavingAnotherOne - 17.2 hours ago
Good morning Preggos :-) I hope everyone is doing good today... other than looking like the main event at Sea World i'm good. I've been getting shortness of breath, today i think it's because maybe my pants are a little too tight in the waist when i sit down.. i'll be glad when August gets here.. lol

Hayley0807 - 17.2 hours ago
Desertsky- I also had to stomach flu when I was around 8 weeks and it was horrible. Try to keep sipping small amounts of water to stay hydrated. I was out of town when it happened so that made it worse. I would call your doctor and ask them what they think.

mommapeach - 17.3 hours ago
I have been feeling my little bean moving around. I didn't feel my first until around 18 weeks. I think I feel the baby earlier since I now know what it feels like. Or I should say I know it isn't gas :)

valencia - 17.6 hours ago
Liandre- This is my second pregnancy. My 1st i felt a flutter @ 14wks(didn't recognize it) then 16 wks a definite kick! With this one i felt the movements at the end of 13 wks (no real kick though) i guess i felt it sooner b/c i can recognize it now.

SunnyMom - 17.9 hours ago
Fourthlittleangel...when I was sick with colds my OB said NO to Afrin nose spray...but yes to a VICKS inhaler stick. Don't know why. She checked all the ingredients. Plain saline nose drops like babies use was OK.

collegeprincess27 - 18.2 hours ago
Desertsky I would atleast give the doc a call and see what they think better to be safe always

DesertSky - 18.3 hours ago
Hi ladies, so glad to be in week 14. Anyone go through the stomach flu while pregnant? I don't know if I should go in to the doctor or not. I've had diarrhea, nausea and vomiting that started early yesterday morning. I could only drink about 2 cups of water yesterday. I feel achey and go through hot and cold symptoms, but I'm not registering a fever. The diarrhea seems to have stopped today. Any advice? Thanks

Am hoping for some tips on what i may be expecting soon. Plus any ideas on if i'm carrying a boy or a girl in comparison to how she felt etc :)

last day in week 14!! yay! i gained 10 lbs already too. oh well, im not goin to stress over weight. i will worry about that after baby comes.

HavingAnotherOne - 1 days ago
Excitedfor1st, i haven't had bad cramps, though i have had pressure and the occasional sharp pain that lasts a couple of seconds.. if you're not bleeding and don't have the cramps now you should be ok, if you're worried though you could call your Dr. office.. not sure if bad cramps are normal since i haven't had that happen to me during any of my pregnancies, hopefully someone here will have a better answer for you. :-)

excitedfor1st - 1 days ago
I am a first timer and yesterday I had extremely bad abdominal cramps (in the middle) then I woke up and puked (havent done that once yet) and have had cramps all day. Anyone experience this? I am not bleeding so I am not super worried, just wondering if its normal.

GGMarie - 2 days ago
Amanda- I have asthma too! It's worst being big and pregnant during the summer. I'd recommend buying a humidifier. It will help you breathe better at night. Also, during the summer, you may want to stay indoors as much as possible. This is my second pregnancy that places the most difficult part of my pregnancy in the summer, and this is also my second baby. Good luck!!

GGMarie - 2 days ago
I can't believe it!! I finally made it to week 14 and am starting my second trimester!! I am already feeling my baby move and can't wait til I find out what I'm having! I'm soo excited!!

msawin20, I have an approved list of meds pregnant/nursing women can take. For colds it says Sudafed or Sudafed Sever Cold(Diphenhydramine only) and Afrin Nasel Spray. In big bold letters it says NO THERAFLU! I am going to type up this list of approved meds and post it on my page if anyone is interested.
