Your baby's weight has doubled in two weeks and now weighs about 3.5 ounces! The crown-to-rump length of your growing baby is 4.4 to 4.8 inches. If you spread your hand out opened wide, you can see about how big your baby is.
Your uterus is moving up and is now approximately 1.5 to 2 inches below your navel. You are showing more now and there is a noticeable swelling in your abdomen. At this point in your pregnancy, a 5 to 10 pound weight gain is normal. Other people can probably feel the difference in your lower abdomen if they were to rub your tummy. To be the most comfortable, you should be wearing maternity clothes or clothing that is too large for you. You may have felt your baby move already. However, you might not feel it move every day at this point. As your pregnancy progresses, movements become stronger and more frequent. Feeling your baby move can help reassure you that your baby is doing well. You might also notice that your gums or nose bleed occasionally. This is from the increased blood volume that puts pressure on small blood vessels and capillaries.
Huge changes continue to take place within your developing baby. This week fat begins to form and will continue to do so until he is born. Fat is important to the body's heat production and metabolism. Right now, at 17 weeks, water makes up about 3 ounces and fat 0.018 ounces of your baby's body. In a baby at term, fat makes up about 5.25 pounds of the total average weight of 7.7 pounds. The placenta is continuing to grow at an amazing rate. The placenta will continue to develop in tandem with the fetus and it will weigh more than a pound at birth! By this week, the placenta is large and well established with a network of blood vessels that exchange nutrients and waste.
The eyes are facing more forward. The ears are now close to their final position.
Your baby is more flexible with ability to move head, mouth, lips, arms, wrists, hands, legs, feet, and toes.

heres a random question ladies... according to when my LMP was and when i should have ovulated i should be a week ahead of where my last US said i am... so what are the chances that at some point this LO might just catch up to that and im acctually on schedule rather then measuring a week behind... (i hope that all makes sence) lol

~Duffy~ I am happy that you have made a decision I am sure it is a small weight off your mind and a bit less stress on you. Anyone else having nightmares about their baby being kidnapped. It is a horrid dream that woke me up in tears.
Duffy - 5 days ago
well ladies after weeks of trying to decide how I am going to give birth, I have thought, read and talked about it, DH & I have decided to go with a c-section. It is clearly the safest way for bubs and myself (which is ultimately the most important factor)

baby beautiful - You can feel where the top of your uterus is. Try lying down and slowly working down from your belly button. When it starts to firm up then that is where your uterus starts. (this is the easiest way I can think of how to explain it) Hope it helps
baby beautiful - 5 days ago
Hey ladies!! Week 17 eh?! This pregnancy is flying by! Just wondering if you can all feel your uterus and what its meant to feel like? All the websites say you can feel it but I dont know what Im looking out for!! Baby dust! x

My husband got to feel little one kick this morning, thats one of my favorite moments when i am pregnant, if my husband feeling them kick the first couple of times :)..... my 4yr old daughter about made me cry this morning, she went hunting with my husband and her uncle, she gets All dressed, pulls on her winter hat, heads for the door, then turns runs back to me and says 'i'll be ok mom' then gives me a big hug and marches out. It was all i could do not to cry.

Sweetbabyqueen, I am right there on the 'can't stop eating' train with you and it's worrying me because I don't wanna gain too much weight! Aaaargh!
mommy.to.abi - 8 days ago
I stopped logging in using my iphone because I kept hitting the stupid log out button instead of 'to your profile' because it's so small on my phone. lol
sweetbabyqueen - 8 days ago
Oh - in addition to my name now being gone from the list, I am unable to sign in to this site from my iphone. The iphone issue has been going on for over a month now, but i haven't said or done anything about it. anyone else having iphone issues?
sweetbabyqueen - 8 days ago
can't...stop...eating... is anybody else ravenous, or is it just me?
1-blessed-mommy - 8 days ago
i looked thru weeks 18 and 19 and they only have like 7 or 8 on the list too. must be a technical problem. lol. oh well
pleasebepink - 8 days ago
I'm gone as well looks like only eight people are on the list!
mommy.to.abi - 9 days ago
I think I felt a little bit of movement today which is a relief. I am just worried about the doppler because I have an anterior placenta so I've heard sometimes it's hard to find the HB when the placenta is in the way. I should get it soon though and I'll update you ladies when I do!
Bunzys-mum - 9 days ago
Good morning mummies, i have been having a fair amount of back pain this morning, anyone else having that? Ok.....um....I'm not on the list either...what's up man? mommy.to.abi..it took me a little while to figure out how baby was laying and where to find the heartbeat, but now I know the exact spot to go to find it. Baby usually runs from it right away! It just takes time..I bet you find it pretty easy ;)
1-blessed-mommy - 9 days ago
ya yoyo that would be cool let me know :) Mommytobri that is always a fear but dont think like that. just think i cant wait to hear it :)
mommy.to.abi - 9 days ago
PS: now I've disappeared from the weekly list. That's stupid. :/
yoyo506 - 9 days ago
@1-blessed-mommy-Coolbeans, that sounds fun. I'm gonna try that tonight just to see how accurate it is since I already know what i'm having..
mommy.to.abi - 9 days ago
Well I broke down and ordered a doppler. I asked everyone and apparently none of my 500 pregnant/no longer pregnant friends has theirs anymore. Ugh! Good news is the place I ordered it from is in my state so I should get it fairly quick! I am terrified of not finding a HB though. :/
1-blessed-mommy - 9 days ago
well, you hold a needle on a string over your belly and if it makes circles it a girl and if it swings back and forth its a boy. look it up online for more details, you can use a ring too. and if you put it above our wrist it does the same. i always have to have my husband do it over my belly because i get to shaking holding my hand up. when he held it over my belly it circled then i held it over my wrist and it circled there too. I dont know how accurate it is but all i know is that it was right with both my son and daughter in the past.
yoyo506 - 9 days ago
I've never heard of the needle test, how do you do it?
nicolemarie26 - 9 days ago
its not in my back..its more in my butt and upper thigh....blessed mommy, how do you do the needle test?
1-blessed-mommy - 9 days ago
ya after thinking about it i realized i have been drinking a lot of lemonade lately which may have been why the baking soda fizzed. just food for thought :) Sorry mammacass that you still had to deal with that pain after baby was born, its not so bad today, maybe i pinched something in my sleep, hoping that it does not come back
mamacass1219 - 9 days ago
blessed, i have had that since child number one, sadly it never left me when i wasn't pregnant... i asked the doc what i could do about it, and she gave me a list of mild excercises......if those dont work, i know some women who go to the chiropractor and that helps.
mommy.to.abi - 10 days ago
I heard the ring test work for a lot of women and the baking soda test NOT work, so maybe it IS a girl. That will be my guess. ;)
1-blessed-mommy - 10 days ago
thanks mommy-to-bri :).... so this morning my husband held the needle over my belly and it did circles, lol, so that means girl haha. backing soda test said boy. but the needle test was right on both my kids so maybe it will be a girl. i so love all these little guessing games til we really find out, they are so fun. I went ahead an got the intelligender test yesterday but have to wait til sun morning to take it. fun fun:)

The nerve pain can be in several places I believe, mine just happened to be in my back.
MistyVT - 10 days ago
My name has vanished from the list of members in week #7!!!
1-blessed-mommy - 10 days ago
So its a pain in the back? cause mine is in the leg, but this is definately a nerve pain, so maybe it will go away. or i hope atleast :)
nicolemarie26 - 10 days ago
1 blessed mommy---ME!!!! this last week. in fact i was just complaining about it before i jumped on here. soooo annoying. i have it on my left side. mid butt OUCH! seems to act up more when i go walking. i plan to mention it to my doc next week also, but as mommy.to.abi said, i dont think there is much we can do for it. :(
mommy.to.abi - 10 days ago
I had the nerve pain issue with number 1... I remember going to see my doctor once and told him about it and roughly told him the spot on my back and he pushed his finger where it was and I had immediate relief, until he moved his finger away! LOL! He told me there wasn't a lot you could do. Maybe a chiropractor would help? I heard they work wonders for pregnant people!
1-blessed-mommy - 10 days ago
so question have any of you ladies had experiance with SCIATIC nerve pain ( sorry on the spelling) i have this light shooting pain that goes from the bottom of my rear down my right leg and stops about my knee. never had that before. thoughts???
