Your baby's weight has doubled in two weeks and now weighs about 3.5 ounces! The crown-to-rump length of your growing baby is 4.4 to 4.8 inches. If you spread your hand out opened wide, you can see about how big your baby is.

Your uterus is moving up and is now approximately 1.5 to 2 inches below your navel. You are showing more now and there is a noticeable swelling in your abdomen. At this point in your pregnancy, a 5 to 10 pound weight gain is normal. Other people can probably feel the difference in your lower abdomen if they were to rub your tummy. To be the most comfortable, you should be wearing maternity clothes or clothing that is too large for you. You may have felt your baby move already. However, you might not feel it move every day at this point. As your pregnancy progresses, movements become stronger and more frequent. Feeling your baby move can help reassure you that your baby is doing well. You might also notice that your gums or nose bleed occasionally. This is from the increased blood volume that puts pressure on small blood vessels and capillaries.

Huge changes continue to take place within your developing baby. This week fat begins to form and will continue to do so until he is born. Fat is important to the body's heat production and metabolism. Right now, at 17 weeks, water makes up about 3 ounces and fat 0.018 ounces of your baby's body. In a baby at term, fat makes up about 5.25 pounds of the total average weight of 7.7 pounds. The placenta is continuing to grow at an amazing rate. The placenta will continue to develop in tandem with the fetus and it will weigh more than a pound at birth! By this week, the placenta is large and well established with a network of blood vessels that exchange nutrients and waste.

The eyes are facing more forward. The ears are now close to their final position.

Your baby is more flexible with ability to move head, mouth, lips, arms, wrists, hands, legs, feet, and toes.

Fingerprints are forming now.

Also, I meant to say movement. not kicks. It WOULD be impossible to feel defined kicks or punches at this point. But as i said before you can DEFINITELY feel movement.

faithactivated it's quite possible for you to feel your baby move now. I felt flutter a week or so ago and now I'm feeling some flips. This is my 3rd pregnancy so I can definitely determine the differnce between baby/digestion/gas. Hopefully you'll feel yours move soon too. If this isnt your first pregnancy you may not always be able to pick the movement of baby.

i can hav a tad problem getting the heart beat but so did the midwife i think its cos the babies r moving around so much now.... when i do finally find it.. the baby disapears :) x belly rubs all x

Wow don't see how you ladies have felt your babies move already. I find out what I am having next week. YAY! Has anyone else been getting REALLY bad leg cramps/pains in their legs at night while sleeping? Mine are horrible. And also each time I change positions in bed, I'll turn on my left side and I'll feel weird pain there and then I'll turn on my right side and itll be there. Idk else to describe it.... but its weird. And its SO hard to find the heartbeat on my fetal doppler now. I dont know why. I dont know if I'm looking in the wrong spot or not pressing down hard or what lol. DONT KNOW!!

My little one just stated kicking up a storm! It's the most comforting thing in the world feeling your baby move inside you. A week and 1/2 ago it was flutters now I'm feeling real, prominent movement. Lol Baby is getting big and hyper!!! :-D

Hey ladies, went to the Drs today and had the scare of my life. Because Im a heavy set woman the Dr. was having a hard time finding the heartbeat with his monitor...so I started freaking out!!! So he decided to do an ultrasound and tada my little one was just jumping around and scooting all over the place with the heart beating just fine. The Dr tried to tell me what the sex was but he couldnt tell cause s/he was at the wrong angle, plus the Dr office machine isnt a very detailed one. He did give me a picture but s/he looks like skelator LOL the picture on the screen was really cute but then s/he moved and I got this crazy picture lol Hope everyone is doing well.

Just got back from my 17 week visit :( not a happy visit baby is doing well but I lost the only four pounds I have been able to gain and it appears that my lupus is making an appearance again :( then on top of that I have the flu. Doctor wrote me out from work for the rest of the week and have to go see my Rhematologist on monday. Trying to stay positive but so much has happened in four days I'm just spiritually weak :( hope everyone else is doing well.

:) just got back from the doctors visit..well midwife visit, i just got assigned my midwife and I love her, she is very personal and understanding, answered all my concerns and questions and made me feel great. She was very pro working out still, asked which workouts to stay away from and she's excited for my water birth, i have a great feeling. Heard the babies heart beat it was in the mid 160's and my uterus was physically measuring at about 21 weeks, she said it was 1/2 to 1 inch above my navel already and that she can tell its all ball and hard and that's a good thing. Get to find out the sex march 2nd, it seems sort of long but it will come soon enough I'm sure. :) also did my quad test...hope everyones feeling great and healthy!

grrrrr....... just got back from the dr. he is making me wait until March 2nd to do our ultrasound. He clearly told me at 19 weeks we would do it, so i went in today thinking about a week, 3 WEEKS......im so mad.... not to mention i am having a crappy week. everything is going bad. school was horrible yesterday, then i come home to 2000 dollars worth of bills from my daughters surgery last month... today marks the 1 year of my sisters death... and then the dr upsets me more. i have just been a crying messssssss

Kace553, with my last pregnancy we went an a trip and I called my OB and they called in a prescription for motion sickness pills that are safe when you're pregnant. Try giving yours a call to see if they will do the same.

For those of you who want test for UTI's without going to the doc everytime, you can buy 50 or 100 packs of urine reagent strips and you can do it at home. Obviously if it's positive you'll have to go in, but it will ease your mind since you can test as frequently as you want to instead of waiting for you monthly appointment.

Anybody know of a motion sickness drug that's ok to take right now? I'm traveling in a couple weeks and we'll be taking bus, boat, and plane rides to the places we're going. I don't normally get sick, but my stomach isn't the same as it was before getting preggers either LOL and the group leader wants everyone to take their Bonine every morning so we don't have to deal with it. Any input?

Hi ladies. Well, after 2 months of insane allergies I finally went to the doctor to see what my options were. Like all of you I hate taking meds while pregnant (I hate them at the best of times), but I had become a total wreck. I was exhausted, my asthma was bad!!, my eyes were so itchy and swollen I had trouble focusing my vision. So now I am on steroids for a few days, hopefully this will give me a break from the allergies and help my asthma too. So I am biting the bullet. Feeling better already. I guess my baby's lung's will be super lungs!!! Hope you are all feeling great.

hey everyone! hope it was a great weekend for all. I celebrated my 30th bday saturday night and i wasn't bothered at all that i coulnd't drink. so now, i have exactly 10 days til i find out what team we are on! it seems like forever. anyone getting bad aches on the side of your outer thighs when your sleeping on your sides? i mean, either side? ugh, makes me have a lot of sleepless nights b/c of it. well, to those of you that have found out their lil one's gender,congrats!

faithactivated- i too have been having pains around my groin. it was starting to concern me but my next scan is in 2 weeks so i might ask them about it then. i dont know what causes it though but it does get really sore and i know i dont have any infections r that so i dunno :(

Faithactvd-OMG, yes w/the round ligament pain! I just had about 2hrs of it... I noticed that when I get the pain, within the next week I get larger... You mentiond being tired... I too am a very active person and noticd tht I was sleeping and had a sense of being tired all day. The doctor checkd me for anemia, and just as sure, that's what it was. I now take 2 iron pills (over the countr) daily and it's amazing how much better I feel. You might want to check w/your doctor : )

YAY! We are all slowly finding out what we're having!! =] How exciting! Anyone else getting pains in their groin area? Ive been getting them A LOT lately. Sometimes the start from my stomach and go down. And I'm ALWAYS ALWAYS SOO sleepy!! I feel like I always want to be sleeping and I absolutely hate it! I'm not a lazy person at all. Oh and another question, I can't seem to get full. I'll eat and I'll be okay for a bit then maybe an hour or so later I'm ready for a meal!! I've already gained 12 pounds altogether. I'm a pretty tiny girl to begin with too.

Mummyhellie-Please read my earlier post!!! I just got out to the hospital for a 3 day stay due to a UTI that turned into a horrible Kidney infection! Most pregnant ladies dont show many symptoms of UTI's so it's better to go to the dr!!!

Felt the 1st kick last week! after eating spicy fajitas, baby obviously likes spicy food! its weird coz didnt feel anything till quite late last time! my other half is desperate to feel him/her moving now! got 2nd scan in 3 weeks today and cant wait! really wana find out the sex! my urine is a bit smelly tho at the mo (sorry if tmi) already had one urine infection and not sure whether to go back to docs about this!

Well we were scheduled to have our gender determination ultrasound at the doctors office on March 1st which seemed like forever away but it was cool until we found out we could not bring our 2 other children with us!!! This is something we really wanted to experience as a family so instead of waiting till then we went to a local ultrasound company here called Angel Prints on Saturday. We got to take the whole family and found out...it's a GIRL!!! :)

I am so excited for you all who are close to finding out if you are on team pink or blue. I found out at 14w6d that I am having a boy and I get to see him again on the 25th of this month due to a cyst on my ovary. I have been to the doctor three times and had an u/s all three times and it never gets old. Today I am 17w2d and cannot believe how fast time is going. I am a teacher and cannot wait until the end of May when I am out for the summer and I am taking off half of the year next school year.

Hi ladies soo I had a weird suprise today.. I set up a ultrasound for the 10 of march but got. Call from a nurse today tellin me my ultrasound at the hospital is in 2 weeks! I was like what??? Apparently they have set up 2 appointments for me 3 weeks apart! Haha ones at my dr office n ones at the hospital! I was like why?? The nurse said sometime they do that are u high risk.. I said nope! But hey a chance to see my lil one twice can't pass that up! Lol I guess it just a lil present now the key is not sneakin a peak to see what were having 2 ultasound ugh that's 2 chance to see n I don't want to know!! Does anyonbe have supper bad heartburn??? Yikes mines horrible!
