Your baby's weight has doubled in two weeks and now weighs about 3.5 ounces! The crown-to-rump length of your growing baby is 4.4 to 4.8 inches. If you spread your hand out opened wide, you can see about how big your baby is.
Your uterus is moving up and is now approximately 1.5 to 2 inches below your navel. You are showing more now and there is a noticeable swelling in your abdomen. At this point in your pregnancy, a 5 to 10 pound weight gain is normal. Other people can probably feel the difference in your lower abdomen if they were to rub your tummy. To be the most comfortable, you should be wearing maternity clothes or clothing that is too large for you. You may have felt your baby move already. However, you might not feel it move every day at this point. As your pregnancy progresses, movements become stronger and more frequent. Feeling your baby move can help reassure you that your baby is doing well. You might also notice that your gums or nose bleed occasionally. This is from the increased blood volume that puts pressure on small blood vessels and capillaries.
Huge changes continue to take place within your developing baby. This week fat begins to form and will continue to do so until he is born. Fat is important to the body's heat production and metabolism. Right now, at 17 weeks, water makes up about 3 ounces and fat 0.018 ounces of your baby's body. In a baby at term, fat makes up about 5.25 pounds of the total average weight of 7.7 pounds. The placenta is continuing to grow at an amazing rate. The placenta will continue to develop in tandem with the fetus and it will weigh more than a pound at birth! By this week, the placenta is large and well established with a network of blood vessels that exchange nutrients and waste.
The eyes are facing more forward. The ears are now close to their final position.
Your baby is more flexible with ability to move head, mouth, lips, arms, wrists, hands, legs, feet, and toes.

Hello moms! :) I have a question for anyone who has kids already, if they are in day care, how much do you pay roughly monthly? I work full time and attend school full time, I'm trying to figure out finances ahead of time, let me know ladies ;)!

etrocks- i feel for you. my 9th month of pregnancy my son stayed on mine and i cried when I walked sometimes. Not only was the baby weight heavy then my back was killin me. It went away as soon as I had him. I was jumping for joy!!! Hope this treatment helps :-)

The chiropractor has helped with sciatica, I can at least walk now. I will need to go & see him 2x a week! I also will be getting a 'medical' massage for the pain, and on my insurance. I always said I would never go to a chiropractor but I didn't know what else to do. Anyone else already getting a sciatica? With my son the only thing I had throughout was restless leg syndrome which was annoying more then anything. My dh used to make fun of me cuz I could never sit still or in bed my legs were going a mile a minute! This time I think he feels bad for me. Of course when I can't walk I can't get up & make him dinner lol!

MrsHutto there are risks with having an Amnio, but they are low. Ask the place you are going to for their specific data. The general finding is 1 in 300 have a miscarriage due to the amnio, but the place i went to was 1 in 900. Also, now that they are using a continuous ultrasound during the amnio, the risks are much lower. BabyCentre has a lot of info on it.
ashraesy - 7.7 hours ago
A few more things I forgot to mention.
I'm having terrible headaches too. I have an appointment on Weds so I'm going to have them give me the prescription for it because I have a history with migrains, ugh.
Also, I'm not doing the amnio. Is anyone else not?
I'll be about 17 1/2 weeks pregnant when I go to my next appointment and I'm not finding out the gender. So my 'big ultrasound' should be at the next appointment after that, right? The reason I'm worried is because my husband has to work during my next appointment so I'm really hoping it's just another heartbeat and vitals check. Isn't it usually around week 20 or so when the big ultrasound is?
Hope everyones feeling good these days!!

It feels sooo good to be 17 weeks pregnant. I'm out of zofran now but the past few days I have felt nothing but GREAT!! It's a complete change for me. I was having it pretty rough and I think the MS is finally starting to head out the door!! Food doesn't gross me out anymore either so I can actually eat and I'm not throwing it up after. I can't stop smiling because I just feel so good finally! Of course I'm suffering backaches and whatnot but I'll take that over MS anyday!!
Arcola21 - 8.3 hours ago
I just cant believe that this year is almost over!!Where did it all go?? I will be 18 weeks tomorrow. The past few weeks have flown by!! My MS has eased up tremendously!! Usually I only need to take 1 zofran in the morning and as long as I keep food in my belly I am fine! Thats a big improvement from taking 3 every day and still getting sick!! I hope everyone still dealing with HORRIBLE MS gets some relief soon!!

Mrs Hutto :- The downs syndrome test are nothing to worry about if they come back with a slight risk. I had an amniosentesis when i carried my second child as the test results came back high risk for a disease named Edwards syndrome. Which is not pleasant. However thats why I opted for the amnio. As it turned out all was well and they could tell me for certain that he was going to be a boy. Which was a bonus :). I have loads of friends (young and older) who's tests have came back high risk for DS and it has always worked out to be completely fine. You should try not to worry so much hunni. Only worry when its completely necessary....thats always been my way of dealing with things :) Good luck!!

Bethany7053 - 10.1 hours ago
also wanted to say, I look like I've put on tons of weight, but went to the doctor to find out I barely put on a pound. not sure if it has to do with all my exercising. nurse didn't seem too worried. anyone else?
Bethany7053 - 10.2 hours ago
mrs.hutto- hello, when I went into my week 13 ob appt, my doctor talked about all the testing. he explained I have a 1/1000 chance for DS, but if I did the blood work/urine testing & they found anything abnormal, they would want to go into the fluid & test it which drops me to a 1/200 chance for my baby to have DS. He said he believes that it does sometimes cause things to happen. he said that the 20 week ultrasound usually gives doctors a pretty good idea if the baby is developing DS due to the neck folds. I hope everything goes well with you & baby.

its 2:30 am and i'm awake?!?!? Going to try to sleep, have the big ultrasound in the AM. Oh, first day in week 17 :-D
MrsHutto - 17.9 hours ago
Thank yall so much! I will deff. Keep it updated. Yall have made me feel so much better bout this. This next 11 days are gonna be hard waiting on test. They want me to get the test where the get fluid with that needle. Is there any risks with that? I'm scared it might hurt the baby.

Just went to the dr.s and had another ultrasound. Thank goodness the 4D specialist was there and told us we are having a boy. Baby looks fine, and heard the sweet little ones heartbeat. Amazing. I took the intelligender test a week ago, and it said that I was having a girl, so be careful about believing results from that. Good Luck Ladies
gurujit - 1 days ago
Just went to the doctor and heard the little one's heartbeat! The most amazing music to my ears :) I've felt the baby move a few times this past week but the doctor says it is really common not to have felt the baby at this point and it will be more prominent around 20 weeks.
2 weeks from today we have our ultrasound and hopefully will find out what we are having!! Can't wait and congrats to all those who have already found out.
And MrsHutto - my sister-in-law had a positive response to the blood test and my nephew was fine, so definitely some error there.

Had an ultra sound... and its a BOY! Im happy to join the Blue Team!
commongoal - 1 days ago
MrsHutto : Congrats and welcome to the blue team =) No matter what, your baby is a blessing and it is very good to hear that if he has DS it does not change your mind on keeping him. If he does have DS, keep in mind that he is God's gift and he has been sent to a wonderful person to take care of his special gift. Keep us posted and let us know what the results turn out to be...xoxo

MrsHutto~~ God only gives us what we can handle .. just think of it as a blessing they are very special ppl.. there is more to them then DS.I too had my 1st child at the age of 18 and i thought everyhting would be fine.. When my daughter was born i noticed her eyes move around all over the place really quick too.. being young i thought it was just the way babys eyes are at 1st. Then my parents said something to me.. So i mentioned something to my family Dr. He sent me to another Dr and so on and I was told that my daughter could be blind. That second my world came crashing down.. I didnt know how to feel or what to feel... here i am 18 with a baby and how im a going to get through this.. thank god i had her father there and he is still here with us today and i have a close family.. It turned out that my daughter isnt totaly blind .. but she is visionly impaired and has something called optic nerve hypoplasia. I'm blessed she can see. Just things have to be modified for her.. she needs larger print ect.. she will never be able to drive a car she cant see far away but those are things we deal with and learn to accept.. The reason for me telling you all about my daughter and what we have gone though is that sometimes in life we arent always delt the cards we want( or assume we will get ) but we make the best out of what we got because we are blessed to have them in our lives.. we love them and just think of it as a blessing and also think of it as you are a stronger person because of it..Hope things go the way you want them to and i wish you all the best just keep your head up and be strong.. not only for your self but for the little gift you have inside of you

I got the DS test last week. I am 28 and my chances are 1 in 120, they told me not to worry also, but i cant stop thinking about it either. Which I will of course Love it the same either way. I go to a speacialist dr for my 20 week u/s and they will inform me of greater or less chances then.
etrocks - 2 days ago
mrshutto did the baby look like he had ds. I've been told you can tell in an ultrasound something to do with thier neck. I won't get the test but my chances are higher then most b/c my husband's aunt who is 53(old for ds) has it. And let me tell you she is smarter then most of the people I deal with everyday!

hey ppl went to the doctors today n found out im having a bby girl im so happy i got my 2 girls i canwait to dress them alike n everything its going to b wonderful

MRSHUTTO- Im one that believes Gods going to give us whatever it is that he WANTS us to have and im also one that believes people who are given these DS children are blessed because he trusts them to take care of very special people. Ive never worried about if my children would have it either and I dont trust statistics or like in my case... im 37 so dr said I have a 1 in 110 chance.... UM I know God doesnt operate that way and thats what I trust above all else and I LOVED your answer about it not changing your mind on baby.... your so blessed having a baby on the way... hang on to that thought. Last night we sat in a HS auditorium for a concert and my husband had the sweetest 5 yr old DS boy sitting next to him and my hubby kept pestering him and he would just giggle... HE WAS ABSOLUTELY adorable and very smart. Keep us posted... we are here to go thru this with you the best we can.

angelina-- I have not gained anything yet. Until just last week I wasnt able to keep any food down without medicine and I lost 15lbs. I havent even put any of that back on but you can DEFINATELY tell im pregnant. Im in full blown Maternity clothes now. It started with just pants and wearing my regular shirts and now I have to have Maternity shirts because my tummy pokes out the bottom of all my normal ones. LOL If your doctor isnt concerned then you shouldnt be either.
