Your baby's blood circulation is completely functional. The umbilical cord system continues to grow and thicken as blood travels with considerable force through the body to nurture the baby. The placenta is now almost equal in size to the baby.
Your baby will be getting much larger during the second half of your pregnancy. Your baby's crown-to-rump length at this time is 7.2 inches and she weighs approximately 10.5 ounces. Your growing baby is about the size of a large banana. You should be able to feel your uterus about a half of an inch above your navel. Your weight gain so far will be around 10 to 15 pounds.
As your baby begins to lay down more fat, your weight will also increase. During the next 10 weeks, you will gain about half of the total gain for your entire pregnancy. Strangers can now tell that you are pregnant! You might notice an increase in appetite because you need 500 more calories a day to support your charged up metabolism. It is best to avoid processed foods or foods high in fat, calories or sugar. Some women also get strong cravings for foods. If you notice a craving for something unhealthy, you should contact your doctor. Craving for unusual things is known as pica. Some women crave cigarette ashes, charcoal, beer and other non-food items during this time.
Your baby's different organs and systems are maturing. The fetal digestive system is functioning in a simple way and your baby can swallow amniotic fluid. After your baby swallows the amniotic fluid, she is able to absorb water and sugars from the fluid and then the waste is passed as far as the large bowel. Your baby swallows the amniotic fluid in order to prepare itself for life outside of the womb. Some babies consume as much as 17 ounces of amniotic fluid in a 24-hour period. Your baby already has a high number of red blood cells and the white blood cells are beginning to be produced. Taste buds are being formed on your baby's tongue this week also.
Don't be surprised if your legs and feet become swollen throughout the day. You should try to get off of your feet some throughout the day and prop your legs up. If you notice a substantial amount of swelling, you should contact your healthcare provider for evaluation.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's nerves are frayed for no reason. Makes me feel a little more human. Charli- sending good thoughts and feelings your way with some healing ones that you need to pass on :)
On the weight side of things I refuse to weigh myself. I fit into some of my old clothes while ones I thought would still fit don't. I just feel like I'm expanding everywhich way without much bump. It still looks more like a slab to me. I wasn't fat to start so I was hoping for more of a firm round bump by now :( I guess it will come in time.

I work w the ASd population and watch what their families go thru on a daily basis....if I can prevent it or avoid anything, I will. I know it is a noncureable neurological disorder....I just don't want to inject myself or my child w Mercury. (We do not have the thimerosol free vaccines in our county or any surrounding ones.)
mrsmacd - 1 days ago
gobliness; I hear ya! I'm supper emotional too, and I know I'm being irrational when I'm wanting to yell at the same guy who's changed the babies diapers (all three) and put them in their pj's, got the older three to get theirs on, emptied and filled the dishwasher, cleared the table, said prayers with all the children, gave me a bowl of ice cream, and took the garbage out.

christi21; OH my goodness that's terrible. It's enough when you get strangers who assume you do nothing but coming from the one that's supposed to be your greatest support, grr! You do it! Strap a pumpkin to your waist, make it tight so it squashes some of those precious internal organs, and then do everything that needs to be done around the house. Sorry, I ain't no feminist, I'm completely for the thought that this stuff is womans work but because we're freakin' better at it! Men multitask like an iron; ie; they don't. Not to bash dad's who do it anyway, my dad did. I just think that the attitude that homemaker isn't a job is sooooooooo old. Argh. Hugs honey!

lisset005;lisset005; you're making me droooooool. LOL
gobliness - 1 days ago
Oh my goodness, I hate being so emotional! I can't even tell whether I should be as upset as I am over certain things or whether it's just pregnancy irrationality. I'm sure there is always a basis for me being upset but it just is sooo often. My poor DP doesn't know if he's coming or going...but I'm sure he must be as insensitive as I think he is. It's that or I'm going mad lol

You can get a MERCURY-FREE H1N1 vaccine as I did. However, the mercury in the other H1N1 vaccines is less than a single piece of fish. Not even dangerous. Also, studies have shown that since they began taking mercury out of vaccines in recent times, autism rates have still increased. To me there is absolutely no link at all. Anyways, I had both flu vaccines and I feel great w/ no side effects at all. Gotta make the decisions for yourselves!

well i dont think i will be getting the shot. after reading a few news articles i've decided to stay away from it. if i get a migraine i can only take paracetamol because my doctor said its not really 100 percent safe to take anything else...yet for some reason the goverment are telling us that its a good thing to have a shot that hasnt been tested!! that seems fishy to me!! the way i look at it,the way they are going about advising people to have this shot is nothing short of peer preshure. they hope that if they make all us pregnant girls feel like if we didnt have the shot we would be bad parents, that we will cave in and have it. and then, god forbid anything would go wrong they would have the cheek to turn around and say that its our fault for having it in the first place~!! sorry for the essay lol but it really makes me mad!!
luckypenny - 2 days ago
I personally will NOT get the shot...nor will my 7 month old. That contains MERCURY girls. MERCURY = TOXIC. Um no thanks. Plus the whole vaccines w/ Mercury cause Autism debate is enough for me to shy away. Also, the studies are not finished and they will not be until April 2010 from what I hear. Ya knwo back in the day they gave preggie sthis pill for morning sickness and all the children of those who took it had terrible side effects....my Mom had uterine/cervial cancer b/c my g-ma took it. We watch every lil thing we put in our bodies and look at Tylenol and Benadryl like its a poison, but will inject an unknown, untested vaccine with Mercury into ourselves? No way Jose!

60 minutes did a special on the H1N1 vax last week. Only 99% of people who get the virus have something horrible come from it. So there is a chance you'll get it and if you do a 1% chance something bad will happen. The reporter asked with that low of a risk why should we bother getting the vax. They also toured the facility where the vax is made, I now know why the price of eggs has doubled. Really, I think everyone needs to make the choice that is best for them and not judge others if they feel differently. There is a lot of research and I am not comfortable w/ all the what if's and there is a risk either way, and it is small on both sides. They cannot and will not say that they know it is 100% safe, even give you a %, their stock answer is that the risks from the flu outweight those of the vax. At least w/ the flu we are aware of what those risks are.

to mrsmac----its orginal spelling is Amaya, Which mean night rain, in Irabic (sp) my hubby is muslim, he named our son Ali-Lebrun Fondi, so since this is my last baby and its a girl :) i get to name her. and My daughters names are Bryanah (instead of the orginal way Brianna) Tyanah drop the BR and put a T, and DEJA-Renee Faith. So Amiyah, goes along with (ah) after my girls, and faith becuase Bryanah my 1st passed away so i kept it going down. So thats about it. :)
mrsmacd - 2 days ago
first babyboy; Amiyah sounds so very different to me. How is it said phonetically? Is it cultural? What does it mean? Sorry... I'm a bit of a name nut and studying the etymology of names is one of my favourite hobbies. So curious... I can tell you I didn't pick Douglas because of it's etymology. It means black water and would originally have been said 'Doo las' lol. I picked it because it was my grandpa's name, and I was his princess. And because there's a Saint George Douglas, a Scottish priest, who was drawn and quartered for the crime being a Catholic priest ministering in England. :D

christi21; Oh, my goodness you have a lot on your plate! I remember single handedly loading up the moving truck while pregnant with my fourth child. I had to take care of the three older ones who were 3, 2 and 1 at the time and move furniture that filled a five bedroom house. It made me feel very close to my pioneer ancestors.

balsamfir; Yes! So irritated and so easily moved to anger/frustration. Yesterday I almost yelled at my husband (who's sick and was cleaning the house) that he has no idea how I feel, that I feel bloated and sick and it's hard to move and do things and YOU do it... LOL. Good thing I didn't. He's the sweetest person on earth and he would have been so hurt.

I did recieve the H1N1 vaccine and had no side effects. I really thought about it before I recieved it and it did scare me when I also seen that many pregnant people died from the flu.
mamaLaura - 2 days ago
lilmamamads- my sisters husband thinks the same way you do about the swine flu vaccine he says there using us all as lab rats because it has not been tested on anyone or anything before it came out and once you get the shot you get sick and alot of people are dying from it lol but everyone has there own opinions i was right there with you I was not getting it because i am pregnant and it worried me thinking what could happend to my unborn baby and just alot of things were going through my head about it but i did research and it scared me because 28 pregnant women have gotten sick from the swine flu and have died from it in the USA over the past year so im still deciding weather to get it or not but its a scary thing.

Balsam-im moody also so don't feel bad.I get irritated VERY easily!my kids def knw how to push my buttons.my hubbie doesn't understand how it is to be preg.I'm exhausted,my back and head hurt pretty much 24/7 and he still expects me to do EVERYTHING besides go out and work.we r in the process of moving to so that's even more nerve wrecking! Plus my oldest son who is almost 3 has a horrible attitude problem.he tells me no and he calls me christi instead of mom just to get on my nerves.todays not a good day:(

I will not get the shot. I will not let my children get the shot.I'm not one of those who think that the gov't is doing some kind of population control and I don't think that they are an evil entity trying to wipe us out however I do believe that they make mistakes and it's not tested yet. If you question the safety just Google anthrax vaccine side effects.. Check this out:http://www.newsinferno.com/archives/1975- the point is these are solders that are fighting in wars and it makes a lot of sense to keep them healthy. However the gov't routinely denies that there are any side effects. As mere civilians if something does go wrong with the vaccine are we just gonna get a shoulder shrug and a head shake? And that is just my 2 cents
Journey-or-Mateo - 2 days ago
Im with ya mrsmacd. I am really afraid it will have to bad effect on my baby.. like neurological.. I mean how many pregnant woman have they tested it on and have given birth.. It hasnt been out that long. And im talking about giving it to them 1st , 2nd trimester when things are still coming together not baby just gaining weight... Like you said I wont judge anyone getting it.. This is just my opinion..
mrsmacd - 2 days ago
1sttimemoma2be;I'm not getting it, neither are my kids. It's just one more flu bug out of a million other flu bugs that we could die from, and who knows how much it'll morph by the time we get it, if we get it. So, we could take a potentially dangerous flu shot, for nothing, because it won't work by the time the bug gets to us. Have they posted how many people have died from getting the shot vs how many have died from the flu? I'd say keep active, stay healthy, wash your hands, don't touch your nose/eyes/mouth and encourage your kids (if you have any) to do the same. (I won't judge anyone harshly for getting the shot, I'm just sharing my two cents. :) ) Last year I was hospitalized while pregnant with the flu and after an anal tylenol I started being able to keep things down, and recovered quickly. I hope it doesn't happen again but I'd rather that than be a guinea pig in this mass Hysteria that the H1N1 has become.
nycnaz23 - 2 days ago
I don't think I'll be taking the H1N1 since it's been making people sick from taking it and also heard news that it failed. Few people got the swine flu after taking it :? .. scary
