Your baby's crown-to-rump length is approximately 7.6 inches and your growing baby weighs about 12.25 ounces now! Your uterus is about 2 cm above your bellybutton and you probably feel comfortably pregnant. Your growing tummy is not yet large enough to get in the way and you should still be able to bend over and sit without much trouble. You might be enjoying your pregnancy more than ever at this point if morning sickness was an issue in the early weeks.
Your baby's body continues to grow and develop every day. The organ systems in your baby's body are becoming specialized for their particular functions. The fetal liver produces different enzymes than it will produce after delivery. The liver is responsible for breaking down billirubin, which is produced by the breaking down of blood cells. Because the life span of a fetal red blood cell is shorter than that of an adult, a fetus produces more billirubin than adults do. Billirubin passes from fetal blood to the placenta and then into your blood. Your liver helps get rid of fetal billirubin. A newborn baby that has high levels of billirubin may show signs of jaundice. Jaundiced babies have a yellowish tint to their eyes and skin and are often treated with phototherapy.
Your baby's senses are developing daily. The fetus now has a full complement of neurons in the brain and is learning about her body and surroundings through touch. Touch is one of the first senses to mature and your baby may stroke its face or feel her arms and legs.
Your blood volume has increased more to meet the demands of your pregnancy. Most of the increase is in the form of plasma, the liquid part of your blood. This has the ability to dilute your blood and give you physiological anemia, which occurs during pregnancy. The measure of blood dilution is called Hematocrit and the levels reach their lowest points this week. You should check with your doctor to make sure you are not developing more serious forms of anemia.
Your baby now shows an extremely rapid brain growth (which lasts until five years after birth).
The ovaries of female fetuses contain primitive egg cells, all of the eggs a woman will have for her entire life. The uterus of female fetuses is also fully formed.

Hi all, I am new to the site, although I've read posts on here before. Having a baby girl in June. Hope you are all feeling well.
6willbefun - 9.6 hours ago
lovemy family im sure ur gonna make it to 28 weeks! and they are way to cute!
junebabee18 - 9.6 hours ago
Thanks for your help everyone. I'm going to take it really easy tonight and then ring the doctor first thing in the morning. I'm going to try not to panic. Thanks again :)
lovemyfamily - 9.7 hours ago
Juneabee - It could definitely be nothing but where it is blood tinged it could be your mucous plug and you could need to do as little as be on bedrest for a bit, but it's better to be safe then sorry!! They can stop labor at this stage if that's what is happening.
aussiegirl80 - 10 hours ago
junebabee18- I would get to the doc, I don't want to scare you but you can start to dialate with no pain, so I would get it checked out to be on the safe side.
mtnwoman - 10 hours ago
junebabee ~ I haven't had any blood come out, but I have had some stringy mucus. It is possible that you lost your mucus plug, that happens and you probably will build more up in there. If you are not having any contractions/cramping and still feel baby moving I wouldn't be too worried.
junebabee18 - 10.3 hours ago
Hi ladies, hope you are all well. TMI alert! I am a little bit worried as when I went to the loo an hour ago i had a very long green mucus thing come out followed by a blob of gooey blood. I'm not sure if I should ring the doc or not. I feel fine and baby is moving lots as usual. I've had no pain and no cramping. The mucus didn't have a bad smell so im not sure what to do. Do you think I should ring the doc now or wait it out til the morning and then see how I feel? The only reason I'm not completley panicking is because I can still feel her kicking.

Necessities for the first few days: Lansinoh cream for yourself if you are breast feeding!!!! Boob pads to catch dripping milk. Nursing bras/tanks. Pads for you, you will bleed for a week or two, no tampons. newborn diapers (maybe even a small package of preemie diapers). Swaddling blankets. Sleepers-the best are the ones that don't have legs and are long, they also have finger covers to help baby from scratching themselves. Rear facing car seat to get home from hospital. bouncy chair and/or swing. Baby bathtub & wash cloths - 1st few baths are sponge baths only. pacifier. desitin creamy (or some other butt paste). non perfume baby lotion - their skin will get dry and cracked all over hands and feet early on. There is so much more you can get i.e. bottles/bottle brush/spoons/etc. but unless you are not breast feeding this should get you by for the first few weeks. You can always send someone to the store for you as well!

6willbe fun - we used the baby tub for about 2 weeks and hated it. I ended up just putting a towel folded up in the big tub, putting a bit of water in and using that! Worked SOOO much bettter!!
lovemyfamily - 11.8 hours ago
I just looked at that girls pictures in week 24!! What a sweet little boy. He is so tiny though, it makes me so scared. 13 days and she could be here :(
6willbefun - 12 hours ago
I never got used to a baby bath tub. i found with my first that she was little and soap made me feel like she was going to slide outta my hands! lol. I didnt know what to do so I bathed in the normal bathtub with her. as it turns out ive done that with each one because i find that one on one time just so calming and they love it! altho they normaly want to snack. lmao. but i still wouldnt know what to do with a baby tubby. how rediculous is that?!
6willbefun - 12 hours ago
csimonds, i have a small torso too, sometimes my messurements are smaller than they are and i carry huge. i wont be in this week until saterday. with my second i cryed for the last 3 weeks cause i could barely even sit i had to lean back to make room. i tryed to get them to induce early saying it was a huge baby but i was measuring bang on for the week. they ended up inducing on the due date and she was 10 pounds!!! i was sooo mad they didnt listen, but for my 'average sized babies' i run a week or 2 small as well. not sure y that is. im 5'1 AND A HALF! lol
csimonds - 12.2 hours ago
Centimeters, sorry, not inches...she just threw a number at me and didn't explain it, I had no idea what she was talking about.
csimonds - 12.2 hours ago
I apologize in advance for the rant.
OMG. I just had a checkup at the doctor's today, got measured for the first time. Apparently I'm only measuring 20 weeks - I'm off to week 23 on Thursday! Also, apparently I have a really short lower torso; from the pubic bone to belly button of an 'average' woman is around 20 inches, but mine was like 15 or less! And the bitch had the nerve to tell me not to worry! I'm PREGNANT, of course I'm going to worry if I measure small. And I was so convinced that I'd go in and be ahead of schedule. I hurt everywhere, my belly is HUGE, and I can feel his kicks several inches above my belly button (for some reason...). I know I have a long torso, especially for being short, so what, does that make me a freak? I have some ridiculously ginormous ribcage or something? Does my belly button sit really low? His heartbeat was good and I feel him moving all the time, so they say he's fine. I hate how flippantly dismissive doctors are. They can just tell you that something is odd, and then brush it off and move on. If it's nothing, why did you mention it at all? Grrrrr. /endrant

Thinking about getting either lansinoh pump (but I hate how its kind of cloudy & not as see thru as the ameda ones) or I might just spent the extra $50 to get an ameda one which is what I used last time but I sold it thinking last year thinking I wouldnt have anymore kids for a couple years or so. So Ive pretty much got everything for Aleaha just wont set it up til I've painted & cleaned my carpets (do it twice a year lol). I spent 3 hours in babies r us yesterday & my husband couldnt even believe it. I asked him 'well its like you going to a HUGE gun store this size, then guaranteed you'd be in there looking & buying stuff' lol I've been getting winter clearance items for my son. I just have to get a few little things & a breastpump.

In case you don't know, Babies R Us is doing their annual 'The Great Trade In', where you can trade in any large infant item, like cribs, strollers, carseats, strollers, swings, etc, and then get 25% of any new item that is on the approved list. I traded in DD's old stroller for a jogger and I will be trading in one of our old infant carseats to purchase a new double stroller. The best part is you can use the 25% off and put the item on layaway!! Which is great for the double stroller b/c it's around $250. Apparently Babies R Us just destroys whatever you trade in...an effort to encourage people not to sell or give away their old items for safety reasons. I know the trade-in is only going on through sometime towards the end of February, not sure the exact date though, but you can find it on the website. Just thought some of you might be interested in that...I know I was!!!

Baby-Bathing- I absolutely LOVED those foam bears that you use in the plastic tubs only i never bought the tub I used it in the sink.... works great for moms backs plus babys can bathe in there for months ;) I had my son 6 years ago when i was 19 my mom tried to show me the easy way and most inexpensive way to do everything sometimes i listened sometimes i didnt but in the end i found that she was always right ;) now on to baby #2
christinea - 18.7 hours ago
Hey ladies! Wow so much to say. I loved my medela pump-in-style double breast pump. Like I've said before on here, it took my girl a month and a half of bfing complications before she could nurse directly from me and had I not had a good breast pump I would have had no other option but to switch to formula. As for bfing in bed I would put a changing pad (like those ones you find in your diaper bag) under myself and cover it up with a sheet or towel...no mess in bed. Things I absolutely loved: our swing, a good rocking chair/recliner, bouncy chair, snugli, breast pump. Things I could have gone without: change table (I always felt too nervous to change her there because of all that you hear about accidents...etc, I always changed her in her crib which for the first months is so high and railing so low, then later on on my bed, livingroom floor or anywhere), sleep positioner things-I opened the box and never used it, my daughter never cared if the wipes where cool (maybe now that I'm expecting a boy he'll care a little more), I agree those nightgowns with the elastic at the bottom are really nice...especially that our babies will be born in the warm months, I hardly used her baby book - instead just a blank calendar and inserted a little blurb everyday about what we did or anything new, robeez were way too tight for my baby's ankles... Oh for a baby bath, I thought I'd be efficient and get one that folds up, well firstly...I never ever folded it and secondly because this one had an inflatable bottom, which I thought would be more comfortable for her, it turns out you're not supposed to move the bath once it has the water in it, so if you fill it up in the tub and want to bring it to the table or somewhere else you can't, so I was always crouched down in the shower floor. Anyways all that to say get a hard plastic tub instead. Also: one other thing I wish I knew...get disposable breast pads-if bfing-I had the reusable one thinking I would save money and environment, but I never had enough and by the time I had the time to wash them they didn't have time to dry, so sometimes I would put them on wet (which was nice for my sore and burning nipples) but what I didn't realize was that it gave me thrush, which is a VERY painful yeast infection on your nipples that is transferred to the baby's mouth. I just wish someone would have told me that...so I'm telling you all...KEEP YOUR NIPPLES DRY! Anyways that's all I can think of right now. Sorry to blab on!

MrsKoffi, babies are SO different. My daughter LOVED her swing, I got one that went side to side and front and back, she LOVED the side to side motion, but hated the front to back motion. Sometimes to get some rest I would move the swing to my room to rock her to sleep and I myself would fall asleep, she was in hers until she grew out of it. She didn't like her papazan bouncer I got her or the vibration (however I have heard some babies just love this) my daughter really liked a simple bouncer with no fluff my mother found at a garage sale. I would say the number one outfit for baby would be nightgowns with the elastic bottom, was my favorite as babies love to curl their legs together since they are used to it, and its easy to change a diaper by just simply pulling it up and down, doesnt wake baby. Things I wouldn't waste money on are bottle and wipe warmer, bottle warmer because it takes too long to warm the bottle when you can sit a bottle in hot running water until its warm enough, and wipe warmer because you will not generally have them everywhere you go, so once the baby gets used to a warm wipe, then gets a cold one.. it will definatly wake them up. I agree that a pack in play is so handy as they generally come with the bassenette part, and a changing table.. I had one next to my bed after my daughter got a few months old ( i had her in my bed for a while ) plus they are great for a while as a bed, for anywhere in the home. My favorite shoes for babies are pedipeds, I was so sad when my daugher grew out of them, her feet were too chubby for robeez, and these actually stayed on her little feet.
happybabymama - 1 days ago
I feel like i've already bought tons of stuff, but i know i still have tons of stuff to buy! so far we have a crib, pack n play (which the baby will sleep in while in our room, 4 boxes of diapers (different sizes), Soothie bottles, a dresser, night stand, bedding, and tons of clothes. We aren't going to by much more small things cause we want to see what we'll get at the shower.
lovemyfamily - 1 days ago
As for necessities, diapers and wipes! (if you're looking to save money flat folds and home made wipes are awesome, I have done tons of research into it) the bottles I liked best were the born free bottles. My daughter had BAD acid reflux and these helped a lot. I would say my number one necessity was a sleepywrap!! I know I have recommended it on here a hundred times before but I truly wouldn't have made it through the first 6 months without it. I would have LOST my mind. A thermometer is a must, vaseline (for when their poop is runny as it can burn their bum) Onesies, sleepers, pants, shirts, hats, socks. I honestly found shoes useless until she was 4 months and then we had one pair of fake robeez she wore everyday. A carseat, somewhere to sleep, I would recommend a bassinet as babies usually hate cribs for the first while (in mine and most everyone I knows experience.) My daughter slept through the night from a few days old because we coslept. I found a bouncer chair really useful. She loved the vibrating setting, and would nap there a lot. She hated her swing, we sold that after a few months and her only being in it once. We had a playpen with a bassinet in it and I loved it. We didn't use it as a bassinet though, just as a change table until we got one a few months later. It was great to keep in the living room!!!
lovemyfamily - 1 days ago
The best breastpump is definitely the Medela, it's the number one hospital recommended breastpump. We have a bassinet I got for my shower. It was SO nice to have her close to us for the first while but to be honest she mainly slept in with us for the first 2 months. However she was 10lbs 4oz. This new baby will likely only be 5lbs or so when she comes home with us and I have already set up the bassinet for her as I know she'll need it and I am a bit to scared to cosleep with her. We had a cosleeper that went right in our bed but I HATED it and never used it.
mamacrosby - 1 days ago
fcurt3- I agree... Nursing is so much easier when the baby is close to you ;) When i had my son i lived alone and we often slept in the living room.. id fall asleep in the recliner watching TV and he would sleep right next to me in his pack-n-play/bassinet ... I hated sleeping in my bed because i was scared Id ruin the matress.. nothing like wake'n up in a puddle of milk... YUCK lol
fcurt3 - 1 days ago
mamacrosby- that is is funny i put my baby in one of those wooden laundry baskets too for the first couple of weeks right next too the bed. thought people would think i was crazy, its easier when you nurse babys to have them right there handy!!LOL

I just want to make sure...the madela pump is best right? Hubby and I are choosing our wishlist on wednesday...cant wait! For bottles im gonna take one Dr brown and one nuk to see what suits baby best. Otherwise im just gonna take the whole shop...lol...just kidding, im just so exited!Good night everyone!!

Oh and what are the necessities for a newborn. I mean I have taken care of babies, new born, and children, I wasent their mommy though lol. Im asking what are the things that i absolutely have to buy.
MrsKoffi - 2 days ago
chris- I will def keep you posted, i need some one to talk to I have fetal movement. It does scare me though when caden dosent move. Then again this is my first child, and i dont know what to expect. I have gained 6 pounds, but im a big girl anyways. I have plenty of questions lol, just dont know how to ask. Can any of you ladies recommend a good breast pump.
mamacrosby - 2 days ago
Im not buying alot, clothes a breast pump diapers a few bottles and a swing... that will probably be it... not that im not able to buy a bunch its just that I dont see the point... with my son 6 years ago i went all out and then sold it after words knowing it would be a while before i had another and i would def. do things diff... he hardly spent anytime in his room, hardly ever slept in his crib (he liked the bassinet play yard thing better) I just think that im going to be more practical this time.. its hard though not to want to buy all the nursery sets and pretty matching stuff but in my opinion they'll never miss it ;) save your money lol my sisters baby slept in a laundry basket next to their bed for the first 4 months... it worked perfect ;) just food for though... My in laws think im crazy so its ok if you think so too lol

My DH is really pissing me off with his selfishness. He doesn't realize the amount off money its going to cost to be having another baby, and is acting really stupid about it. I might just have to sit down and write out a budget for baby stuff to get him to understand. It makes it even worse when he is making plans to spend the families money on things for himself (i.e. cigarettes as a start) before he even considers the things that this family needs. MEN!!! Anyways its been snowing here non stop since yesterday afternoon, and I am loving it!!!!! Then again I really am ready for warm weather again :) and I just want it to be june lol!
marinewifemommy - 2 days ago
My sister is so selfish. AH! I have 10 brothers and sisters and we all pass clothes around when eachother has babies to save on a lot of money, Well I asked my sister if I could loan the girl clothes everyone loaned her since her daughter is 1 now and my baby is due in June and she said 'well I really like them all and I want to keep them for when I have another baby. You can have the ones I got from DI (which is like a savers, a second hand store, not very good clothes at all at least around here) and Im like 'whatever just keep them' so Ive spent $350 on clothes so far and still need to spend about $250 more then I will have everything I need for up til next spring/summer. Just makes me so mad. I dont think I will be borrowing out any of my clothes anymore in fear of not getting them back. Anyways, today I am going to get Aleaha's double stroller and carseat from graco. My other sisters works at kmart so with her discount card I'll be saving 20% on it plus its on sale so its going to cost me only like $175 for a nice graco double stroller and carseat when it was originally $260. I also have the bouncer, crib, changing table, breastpump to get then I am done. What a relief. I just wish it was spring already. I am sick of cold weather.

imabutterfly - 2 days ago
devin79- baby not moving a lot can also be a result of baby switching position and is just kicking in an area that you can't really feel :) I wouldn't get too alarmed. I have troubles sleeping too but only when I sleep in bed with DH, if I sleep on the couch, I'm fine. I am planning on scheduling my 4d u/s for either week 27 or 28. I loved the results of the one I had done with my first pregnancy and am looking forward to another. Hope all you ladies are having an easy going fun weekend!! I know I sure have had a good one :)
