This week your baby's length, from crown-to-rump, is approximately 8 inches! Your growing baby has finally reached one pound. Your baby is about the size of a small baby doll and looks very human. The baby's face and body look similar to that of a newborn at this time. Your uterus can be found about 1.5 inches above your navel. Your total weight gain should be approximately 15 pounds at this time.
You might notice some Braxton-Hicks contractions around this time. These contractions are not regular and they should not be painful. Braxton-Hicks contractions prepare your body for the upcoming labor and they will get stronger as your pregnancy progresses. You might be able to feel the contractions if you put your hand on your abdomen and your baby can probably feel the uterus gripping and massaging her. It will not harm your baby, so there is no need for concern.
Fat is still being deposited at a rapid rate, but your baby still looks red and wrinkled. Skin is being produced at a higher rate than the fat is, so the skin hangs loosely. Your baby looks red because the skin is losing its transparency and pigment is beginning to form. You should be feeling your baby moving quite a bit throughout the day as she will kick and punch the uterus walls. Babies also run their hands along the umbilical cord and touch their body parts while they are in the womb. Your baby now can suck her thumb for real, where she was just sticking it in her mouth. Your baby will continue to swallow amniotic fluid and recycle it as urine. The liquids and sugars that the baby retracts from the fluid is a supplement to the nutrients that the placenta delivers. You might be able to feel small `jumps` inside of you when your baby gets the hiccups from swallowing fluid. The pancreas is developing and it will responsible for insulin production, to help break down sugars.
Oily fish in your diet could help boost your baby's health. (Women who eat oily fish while pregnant have children with better visual development, a major study at Bristol University suggests.)
As the baby continues to grow, it has less space to move around in the uterus. Bones, muscles and organs are growing steadily.

I am starting to get a horrible cold :( Every time my 15 month old cuts a new tooth she gets a runny nose and a caugh and I always get it in return. I woke up with a massive headache and my throat has been getting more and more scratchy all day... UGH!!!
kayandbump - 6.4 hours ago
hi people noticed that theres a little discussion about my little man lol. I didnt think it happened very often but there are lots of tiny babies just like him in the neonatal ward where he is i think it happens more often than u think but if spotted when first in labour they will try to stop it won't they. best of luck to all you ladies with your pregnancies and to the little men and ladies u r carrying :) x

wow.... i couldn't imagine giving birth now! It's crazy what she went through. It's amazing how developed the baby is at this stage though. Makes me love and appreciate my little girl a whole lot more (if that were possible).

At 22 weeks and 3 days by little girl was 1 lbs and 3 oz. We all seem to be within a few ounces of of each other!
belle0525 - 9.6 hours ago
I head to week 24 tomorrow but I had an ultrasound on Monday and my little girl weighed in at 1lb 7oz. I think that 1 1/2lbs is right around the average baby weight for being 23 weeks.
sarahjk - 9.9 hours ago
you know the last time i was on here the dugger family were pregnant, have they had another?
imabutterfly - 12.3 hours ago
At 20 week anatomy scan baby kennedie was 11 oz and 1 week later at a check up my midwife estimated her at 1 lb. and the Duggar baby born at 25 weeks was only 1 lb 6 oz. So I'm sure that 1.5 lbs is a perfect size for this far along.
wendy28 - 12.4 hours ago
riverag1 mine was 1.2 lbs at 21 weeks. Doc said the baby was big. I would rather the baby be big. The girl at 24 weeks, her baby was 2 lbs.

jeskasapp - I was in the same boat as you with my first pregnancy. My boyfriend was deployed and I didn't have the support of the church and friends that I grew up with. If you ever need some one to talk to I'm here. It's my first day in week 23. My oh my time is flying.

PS I'm done with this site.... I am way too sensitive right now to be getting things in my mail like I got today...I have never gotten a message that incredibly rude and abrasive and hateful...and didn't expect it from another pregnant woman. So you all have great rests of your pregnancy and I'm out of here!
ambersfirstbaby - 15.3 hours ago
PS you just made my great day into a horrible one...THANKS.

Do your research (if you care enough to) ....here's one website but there are tons more...just google it. https://health.google.com/health/ref/Sudden+infant+death+syndrome After that it's your decision what to do as a parent. hi ladies just a quick question! i it me or my feet keeps getting bigger this is #4 and before i had kids i wore a size 6 1/2 and now i am a size 8 wide! has this happened to any of you???..
MikaylaRegansmommy - 17.6 hours ago
Military~Mommy- I know some of the prices on there are ridiculous....but they also have some goo prices too.. The bedding set we found for Regan is a 9 peice set and its only 159..and i though that was a great deal...lol..If we would of had a boy we would have done airplanes because be hubby used to be a jet mechanic in the navy but he crossrated to steelworker...anyways he is into all the model plans and paintings and everything..so that would have been perfect but we ended up with another girl..lol so we came across that turquoise and brown set becausewe didnt want to go all out on pink sick we kinda went over baord on pink with our first daughter..lol....I just cant wait to finally set up her room..
military~mommy - 17.9 hours ago
OK, I love that site but boy is it expensive! I might buy a lamp shade but I already have a bedding set, all the wall decor (WWII airplane paintings/drawings from a local artist), a wooden vintage airplanes mobile, several quilts (thanks to GGma), so I need curtains and a lamp, some storage boxes, and furniture. And at least the furniture I am not buying until we move back to the states in Aug, I was not going to buy the bedding but it was discontinued and if I didn't buy it immediately I wouldn't have been able to get it.

Mikayla~ I will def take a look at that site, I had not heard of it before!

To all....... I would start potty training before he gets home if I could but since my sister will be staying with her during the day while I'm at work... I know my sister won't folow throgh with it.... My mom said to try duct tape.... Not sure how well it works but by this point I'm willing to give it a try.... Lol... Militarymomma~ as far as nurseries go.. We are converting our spare bedroom into Regan Aureannes room and for her we are using the colors turquoise and brown... I found a really cute turquoise and brown bed set online... The site I use is called distinctivenurseries.com... They have a ton of differant cribs sets but dome of the prices are outragious but we found ours for $159... I like idea of airplanes.. Airplanes are always cute for a boy... Lol

katiebear - 19.2 hours ago
netters, I think it sounds normal. I hope you feel better. I think mucus plug is kinda colorful from what others have said.
mikayla, can u start potty training before hub gets home? She might be giving you a window of opportunity. mine has never done this but I know my twin and I did and my nephews do. mine brings us the potty when she needs to go. its a small bjorn potty. I stoped training when she got uninterested.
wouldn't it be wonderful if we could get them trained before the second kid? wooohooo.
military~mommy - 19.3 hours ago
Netters~ It does nto sound like your mucus plug, but talk to your doc if you are worried, that is what they are there for!

Mikayla~ Once my daughter started taking her diaper off I switch from the velcro tabs to poppers... She cannot get them off! Of course this only applies to those who CD...
mcno4 - 20.7 hours ago
Mikayla – a friend of mine had the same problem her daughter used to take her nappy off at every opportunity, she put sellotape on the nappy and it worked a treat for her

Maybe a little TMI-but I am kind of nervous. Yesterday when I went to the bathroom I had a big clump of gooey CM. It was all creamy white. I have had an increased in CM but nothing like this. I wouldn't think much of it except for the fact that I was put on modified bedrest because I have been having BH contractions 5-10 minutes apart depending on the day. They haven't checked my cervix since last month. Is this normal or should I be concerned?
katiebear - 21.6 hours ago
mikalya, onsies? then at least the diaper stays on.
****I'm not discussing sids! this is to hot a topic! but I will say this, we didn't smoosh her face in the corner. lol she liked the corner so we let her be.
***the jade lady, little girls are a blast. They adore their daddys. mine was a mommies girl until she found out that dad will throw her and run around more then me. lol
***milmomma, there are some airplane nursery on here if you check out nursery rooms. I think airplanes is fun. We converted our daughters nursery into the new babies. Its all neutral green and taupe so we added some blue accents and called it a game. It is a frog, dragonfly, duck theme.
military~mommy - 23.4 hours ago
Sooo, new topic... What is everyone thinking of doing with their babies nursery? I want to do airplanes for Asher's room... My DH had an airplane themed nursery and wants the same for his son. I have found so many cute things over here and am so excited!

I have a questions for all you ladies..... I have an 18 month old daughter and she gotten in the habit of taking her pants off and diaper off alll the time ... My hubby and I are going to start potty training as soon as he gets home from school but I really need to do somthing now to keep her from taking her pants and diaper off all the time.... We have tried keeping her in onsies but she takes the off as well.... Any body gave any ideas....
ambersfirstbaby - 1 days ago
Mikayla- I didn't even read your post...was just saying the whole discussion is a non-issue.... that people should do their own research and then make their own decisions.
MikaylaRegansmommy - 1 days ago
I wasn't trying to open a can of worms by my post.. I was simply stating what I know about it.. As I have stated before is that this is all a matter of opinion..everybody has diferant parenting styles.. What may work fir one person may not work for another... I wish for us all to have happy healthy babies.... Just because I let my daughter sleep on her belly does not make me a bad parent or does not mean I don't know what I'm doing... I have raised 2 kids before so I do have some knowledge... Ambersfirstbaby~ I have done my reasearch hence why I posted my previous post..... Just so you know I do care enough to do reasearch and I read up on everything.... Havinganotherone~ I have read that as well..

Mikayla, SIDS, for the most part is an unpredictably and unpreventable tragedy. One theory is that certain infants, for reasons yet unknown may experience delayed or abnormal development of specific critical areas of the brain, negatively affecting connectivity to the part of the brain that regulates arousal.. so whereas a baby sleeping face down knows to move it's head to the side so it's able to breath, baby's that die of SIDS don't do this, another theory is beathing in carbon dioxide, which can get trapped in soft bedding, gas trapping objects or objects that can impair normal air flow around the babies mouth. Ultimately though it is not known what causes SIDS, in fact babies lying on their backs have died of SIDS. Hopefully someday we'll know the cause, until then i wish us all healthy, happy babies!
MikaylaRegansmommy - 1 days ago
about the SIDS issue...its just caused by infants being smothered by their bumper...Its is also caused by over heating like Elismom stated and also cause by infants being around parents that smoke in the house or around the baby....My 18 month old daughter slpt in her crib from day one and she had a bumper and slept on her stomach and she is perfectly healthy but i always made sure she wasnt by the bumper when i put her to bed.....I slept on my tummy as a baby and so did my sisters and my brothers..and my brothers kids even sleep on their tummys...its just all a matter of a opinion... I have a raised 2 kids before and i know what worked for me...againd its all a matter of opinion...It doesnt make you a bad parent if you put your baby on its belly....
sarahjk - 1 days ago
did i miss something all this talk about SIDS. and as the family increase you learn i tried that with this one and it worked or didn't and you become more confident. i'm having a 2 tier family and its so less stressfull then when i had the other 3.

Hubby and I went out this weekend and picked out out crib and changer combo! We are going to buy it in the next month or so...I don't want to take my daughters playroom away too early, but I also want to get ready for the baby!
elismom - 2 days ago
Also, most of the research I have read suggests that the biggest cause of sids is overheating. And to me it makes sense. Think about how hard it can be to breath when you are hot. Now think abotu in infant that can't move around to get comfy tryin gto breath when it's hot. It suggests that things like not overdressing baby for bed and keeping air stirring in the room. So like even if you don't point the fan at the baby, having a fan in the baby's room keep air moving and keeps it from getting stuffy. Sids is not just about smothering because of how they are laying. If that's all it was, it would be called smothering, and not something fancy.

outofthoughts- you won't ever trust him as much as you trust yourself ;). Nor anyone else for that matter. My son is 21 months old and I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving him with his dad for more than a few hours. My husband is a good guy, but is just not sensitive to my baby's needs. He doens't knows what he wants or needs and doesn't know how to comfort him when he needs it. I jsut prefer leaving him with a grandma if I'm going to be long.
On another note about the sids, I don't know if my kid was just abnormal or what, but after about 4 months, I had no control over wether or not he slpet on his stomach or back...I mean unless I wanted to go in there every 15 minutes and flip him. My son could roll over at 4 months old and would. Talking about the 10 month old, there is no way I could've forced mine to sleep on his back at 10 months. He was nearly WALKING at that point. He slept however he wanted to sleep.
