By this week, your baby's crown-to-rump length is approximately 9.2 inches. Remember, that is only from the top of his head to his bottom and does not include his leg measurements! Your baby weighs almost 2 pounds and is beginning to put on weight. Your uterus is about 2.5 inches above your bellybutton and you will continue to grow approximately 1 cm each week. If you have been eating a well-balanced diet, you probably have gained about 16-22 pounds so far. Because your baby has moved further up, you may get occasional pain underneath your ribs.
After a month of having his eyelids sealed shut, your baby begins to open his eyes again this week. Your baby's eyes are almost completely developed. Your baby's eyes are blue in the womb and may change colors later in life. This is true for all races because the pupils do not have their final color until a few months after birth. However, some babies are born with darker or lighter shades of blue. Your growing baby will continue to put on layers of fat until he is born. He is still lean at this point of the pregnancy though. By the time your baby is born, he will assume the typical newborn's plumpness. Your baby's skin will still be wrinkled and red, but the fat continues to fill the skin out.
Finger and toe nails continue to grow.
Blood vessels start to develop in the lungs to prepare the baby for life outside the uterus.
Your baby's blood circulation is completely functional. The umbilical cord system continues to grow and thicken as blood travels with considerable force through the body to nurture the baby. The placenta is now almost equal in size to the baby.
Even though it is still way too soon for your baby to be born yet, the chance of survival without severe abnormalities is now 70% provided it is born in a hospital.

hopefully3- yeah it can happen my mom had a friend that was on the pill and still got what she thought was a period every month. She has a heart condition so if she wanted a baby it needed to be planned and she had also just broken up with her boyfriend at the time. She went in to the ER for stomach pain and found out she was pregnant and ended up having the baby about a week later. This also was about 8 years ago too.
corrin - 8.6 hours ago
well i didnt go 9 months without knowing but when i was pregnant with my first i had my period for the forst 2 months..or what i thought was a period!!
lil.pigz - 8.6 hours ago
hopefully3 -LOL, I have always wondered how that's possible! (I have never seen the show)I was only 17 with my 1st, but as soon as I missed my period I had suspicions. Once I was getting kicked in the guts and ribs I was pretty convinced, and by the time I looked like a watermelon was growing from the inside, ya, it was no denying it,lol. They say every pregnancy/woman is different, but holy heck, I have been through a ton of pregnancies and havent missed one yet, lol. Wonder what it would be like to literally SAIL through 9 months??
hopefully3 - 8.7 hours ago
Hey ladies! First day in week 26! Hooray! i am watching the show i didnt know i was pregnant. i always wonder how this is even possible to go 9 months and never know! What do you guys think? Do you think its for real?

AngelicB1437 - 9.9 hours ago
ashleyd - haha, you are only eating 3 meals a day?? I would consider that lucky!! I feel like one of my 'snacks' has to be practically a full meal in order to get me through from dinner till breakfast! I'm soo hungry all the time and I can't tell when I'm full anymore, not that it matters because I'm starving within 2 hrs anyway :)
ashleyd23 - 12.9 hours ago
Is anyone else starving all the time? My appetite has kicked in soooooo bad!I have always been a good eater, but now instead of my normal 3 meals and 2 snacks a day the last few days I have eaten 3 meals and 4 snacks a day, seriously!!! Last night we went out to a nice italian pizza place, I had 2 huge plates of salad and then 3 big pieces of pizza, had to come home and eat again before bed....then woke up at 5 this morning with my tummy growling.

sandi- im in VA and I can tell you that's not true about atleast 3 day stay no matter what. My mom stayed less then 2 days for vaginal and 2-3 for c-section depending on how you're doing. My friend she had a c-section and she had to stay 3 days though, but for vaginal birth it's about 2 days if that.
corrin - 1 days ago
yeah im not worried..im high risk anyway so if they thought something was wrong than im sure they would say...and i hope it doesnt come down to bedrest because i was on bedrest with my last..thats why i have a cerclage this time around..its been nice being able to walk this far!!! If its not one thing its another i swear!!lol

corrin- I was told I had low fluid with baby #3, at my 20 week u/s. I wasn't leaking any or had any kind of signs. They said to just increase fluids. I drank like a fish and went back for a follow up u/s the next week and everything was fine. They gave no explanation and didn't have much concern at the time. I never had it in previous pregnancies or since then. Unfortunately though, I freaked myself out trying to look up info on the internet about it. I came across every horror story imaginable, and for nothing:-) Im sure you'll be fine, especially since they didn't make a big deal out of it like you said.

MammaFi and Jellybean, I just wanted to leave you this link to an article I happened to come across. Both of you have posted about things that this article says you should never ignore. If nothing else, call your OB and tell him/her what's going on.

corrin - From what I know low fluid may earn you a one way trip to bedrest if it is from your water leaking. Laying keeps the water from leaking as much and since the fluid replaces itself it isn't usually a huge problem if you can keep most of it inside.

Sandistar - I know my local hospital will keep you for 48 hrs with a reg vag delivery from the time of birth. The way it works though is that I gave birth Saturday at 2AM I would go home Monday before noon(?) but if I give birth Saturday at 11PM I still go home Monday before noon(?) **I'm using noon as the 'checkout' time because I'm not 100% sure but you get the idea** Basically I decided if I go into labor at night I'm dead set not to deliver until after midnight so I don't have to leave as soon :) But I like the hosp stay after delivery because people bring you the baby and deliver your food and I don't have to clean :)
sandistar03 - 1 days ago
hey ladies question how long are the hospitals yall deliver at keeping new moms and the babys i have had 2 kids and baby one i was in 3 days and baby 2 24hrs and i have been told the hospitals her in VA keep u at least 3 days no matter what

Does anyone know what they will do for low fluid? i meant to ask this question a bit ago..but i went for my ultrasound and they wanted me to come back due to low fluid around baby.. they didnt seem too concerned so im not really freaking out..and i know theres enough beacause he moves like crazy..my explanation to myself is hes drinking more than hes peeing!! Anyone else have this? I go back tues to check it again..

1st day in week 26! Yay!!!
AngelicB1437 - 1 days ago
Yay for WEEK 26!!!!!!! Getting closer everyday!!! For anyone who has had heartburn I went a saw a chiropractor on Wednesday for my hips & neck problems. Never even mentioned that I had heartburn so bad even 24 hr meds wore off in 18 or so! Since I got adjusted the first time I have NOT HAD ONE SECOND OF HEARTBURN!!!! I'm not sure if it is just a fluke or what and may not work for everyone but one appt may be worth a shot. Don't know how long it will last either and as I have a 2nd appt today to work on my shoulders and knees I probably won't know how long the heartburn will be missing if I didn't get additional adjustments. Just thought I would pass it on because I have been antacid free for 2 whole days and am really really excited!! I even started eating the stuff that has been giving me bad hb (PIZZA) just to see if I could trigger something and got NOTHING! YAY! I know this is unusual for me because my first pregnancy the heartburn started early and never stopped and it has been completely the same this time!!! Can't hurt to check right???

Berrymama: I just went to my friend's shower last month and she didn't know what she was having. Basically they did an orange, green, and yellow theme and threw things in like baby animals that were also orange, green and yellow. The ballons with those 3 colors looked great! Everything else you can do the same..you can even do a 'guessing game' for people to guess if you will have a boy or girl.

What can you do for a shower if you will not know the gender prior to birth? Any ideas or anyone who has done this please comment on my poll. Thanks.

I do the same as cosmomama i just go by the week, seem's easier that way.

kdg3: I just tell them what wk I'm in. Most people understand that, or at least pretend to. If they look confused, I give them my month. I add 1 wk to my due date. My dr never changed it from feb 23, but every other ultrasound has put my due date at feb 17, which puts me a week ahead. Based on my last period, that is more accurate. So I actually consider myself wk 27 right now. She said even though she won't change the date, she'll keep it in mind if I need to be induced. But ya, giving the week I'm works for most.

so I have this app on my Palm Pre called 'baby bump' and it keeps track of all my preggo info icluding weight growth charts, journals, weekly updates on me and baby, and it'll even keep track of my kick counts and contractions when I need it. Its a pretty awesome app and always seems pretty accurate, except as of today its saying I'm in my 3rd trimester. I googled it cause I was confused, and it basically concluded that 28 wks is only the start of your 3rd trimeste if you are counting on the 280 days of pregnancy timeline. I guess there is also a 266 day timeline that does not count the first 2 wks before ovulation cause we weren't really preggo. And on that timeline, 26 wks starts the 3rd trimester, which I guess is how my app is calculating it. So now I dunno if I should say I'm in my 3rd trimester, or still wait for the 28th week. It was interesting to see it say that!

HereComes4:this is my first baby and it is really worrying me, thankyou for the ifo and the website had great info as well i have some free time now and am going to lay down and hopefully do some counting :) wish me luck lol
HereComes4 - 2 days ago
myliljellybean...I totally freaked out about that w/my first baby...I actually went to the hospital to monitor fetal kicks and everything was perfectly fine...200 bucks, but perfectly fine. You might just not be noticing the kicks as much if you're busy. You can always do the kick count. Lay on your back for two hours (if you have time) and you should feel atleast 10 kicks by the end of 2 hours. Check out this website for more info:
http://www.americanpregnancy.org/duringpregnancy/kickcounts.htm
Dont' worry!!!!

Hey Ladies, Hope everyone is doing well.
I just wanted to see if anyone has had this same issue as myself, for the last 3 weeks the baby has been kicking up a storm inside me, i felt kicks or movement several times a day, but for the past 2 0r 3 days i've felt no movement, this really scares me and i dont know what to do.

i am startin to get worried as i have a doc appt tomorrow and the nurse on the phone said i am gonna have to go see a specalist soon.. i know my placenta is a little low but i dont know what else could be goin on. i think i am goin to break soon!
bambeeno82 - 2 days ago
MammaFi ...........I believe that is true....when the baby is head down it wont engage until labor but your baby can still go back head up if it wants. Mine was down, then back up, and down...now she is back up again LOL I get monitored 2x a week due to being a diabetic for years....so they can flip and turn up until delivery...

OMG I couldnt imagine having a yeast infection during pregnancy LOL I would lose my mind..
cosmomama - 2 days ago
well I went to dr today my my 'worlds itchiest vag' was from yet another yeast infection. They gave me difflucan but i'll try monistat first. This is my 3rd, and worst, infection during this pregnancy. So relief is on the way! Vaginas are way more trouble than they're worth :)

I have a question regarding second babies. The other day I left a message as I was getting a lot of period type pains in my lower stomach and shooting pains in my vagina (which thankfully passed after a few hours). I now think the baby must have moved position as I am now feeling a lot of kicks above my belly button (before everything I felt was really low down). So, my question is, can baby be head down from now until February but the head won't actually engage until I go into labour since this is my second baby? I am loving watching my belly make lots of crazy movements - I just wonder what people at work must think when they see my belly jumping all over the place :)
