Born & Birth stories

Your baby weighs about 4.4 pounds at this point. The crown-to-rump length of your baby is approximately 12 inches and the total length is around 19.4 inches. Measuring from the top of your uterus to your bellybutton is 5.2 inches. Total weight gain at this point of pregnancy is usually 22 to 28 pounds.

With the exception of crying, your baby is capable of doing everything that a newborn baby will do. Your baby is restricted now inside of the uterus, but still can kick and move. Your baby sleeps a lot of the time, just as newborn babies do. Your baby's eyes move in the manner of REM sleep and researchers believe that babies can dream vividly in uterus. When your baby is awake, she is listening, feeling and learning. There are billions of neurons in the brain that make trillions of connections. Your baby will probably have settled into the birth position by now and your caregiver can most likely tell which way your baby is presenting. If your baby were to be born now, the lungs would probably be strong enough to function properly, but your baby may still need extra care from specially trained doctors and nurses.

During these last few weeks of pregnancy, most women experience an increased urge to urinate. The uterus puts a lot of pressure on the bladder and can send you to the restroom frequently. Your uterus has actually grown 500 times throughout your pregnancy! Red blood cell production catches up with the production of plasma and physiological anemia may begin to fade at this time.

Your baby's eyes open during alert times and close during sleep. The eye color is usually blue, regardless of the permanent color as pigmentation is not fully developed. The final formation of eye pigmentation requires exposure to light and usually happens a few weeks after birth.

I also love the Medela Pump In Style. I used my best friend older medela pump one time when I was out of town and I couldn't ever get one once of milk out and it hurt. I say if you are going to be using it alot, invest in a good one that won't destroy your nipples. (One with adjustable suction settings).

sfrizzell1, the great thing about kids is they are so adaptable to differences after you answer their questions so I bet the boys don't care at all about her having short arms. I was dissappointed in New Moon also but then again the book was really slow too. They should have done more with jacob in the movie to keep the movie from having so many slow parts. I wanted to fast foward sometimes. My son has not dropped, he is obsessed with my ribs. Also, I took the infant CPR class today and learned soo much. It was absolutly worth the time. I took it at the rescue squad so it was free and I also learned child and adult and how to use an AED. I hadn't taken CPR since 1993. I feel prepared if baby stops breathing or chokes. They even made a lot of accomidations to make the whole lesson physically easier on me. They the dummy baby on a table and everything. If you haven't taken it, then do it.

ladies i am freaking out! i just saw on my page that it says 47 days till baby chloe' gets here! OMG!!! i don't have her room ready and still haven't packed a bag! now i feel like i have to rush and get everythign done. ALSO......well, everyone has talked this whole time about feeling their baby in their ribs but i haven't ever felt that. every once in a while i feel her jsut @ the bottom of my ribs but never under them. i figured @ 5'3' she would be all up in them since i am SO HUGE! and short torsoed......i don't know what to think, but i am trying to not gonna worry about it.

After a terrible night of tossing and turning with extremely painful hips...I got up and feel like baby is head down again. In the early hours, it had the hiccups but I could only feel it down low again. I also don't feel as though it is jammed high against my ribs anymore. Maybe it had one more somersault before settling into place. I hate calling it 'it' but I don't know what I'm having. I really don't mind what sex 'it' is but a few nights ago I dreamed that I had a girl and I was very upset. Was funny though coz she could talk...as a newborn. She could say Mum, Dad, Bay, Ty and her name Indy. She liked to say Indy and would smile as she said it. Don't you just love the weird dreams!

Ash-818 ~ if you are having a planned c-section then they won't induce you any sooner then you scheduled date. If you happen to go into labour sooner then they will deal with it then. As for the baby measuring ahead of schedule - it is always possible for an ultrasound to be a week ahead or behind on the growth of the baby as some babies truly grow at different paces.

Hi ladies, We had our fetal non stress this morning and Sophia was totally showing off. We had a good reading within 20 minutes of being there and the last few times we went it took 2 hours! After the appointment we took our boys to see new moon and we were not impressed. The first movie was better. Tonight we'll put up our Christmas tree since I wont be home on Thanksgiving to do it as thats become our family tradition. Tomorrow we'll have Thanksgiving dinner here with our kids so we'll at least have some what of a holiday together. I also told the boys lastnight about Sophia and my oldest son had tears in his eyes. He said he's really worried about his sister but he's ready to show her off. My youngest was just excited and only upset at the fact that he cant see her while she's in the hospital. Unlike my oldest son he doesnt understand it all. I told them that she'll be very small, about 3 pounds, and that her arms did not grow the way most babies arms grow. They didnt seem to mind the arms but had questions about her size and why she's coming so early. - - - - I've been up since 5:00 am CST doing laundry, cleaning, etc. I'm so tired but I have so much on my mind that I cant sleep. Thank you all so much for your prayers and kind words during this all. I found out today that the hospital has wifi so as soon as I'm out of recovery and in my room I'll get on to tell you all about it and hopefull I'll be able to post a few pictures of Sophia.

Ash-818 - 10.2 hours ago
So i don't really understand my ultrasound pic. im 33wks but on the pic one says 33 but her head is showing 34wks the dr says my due date is jan 7 but we went on and scheduled the c-section for jan 5 but w/her measurments he says she'll b here earlier so im hopeing they'll induse me and she'll b here b4 christmas...my son is ready for his baby sister and w/all my restless sleeping im ready for her 2b here as well...but im just so confused....

3rdonBoard ~ There is still time for the baby to move back into position if that's the case. A friend of mine's was breech until 38 weeks then turned around.

MyBabySuprise - 11.7 hours ago
kentuckyfinest96, that is a fantastic idea. Let's all pray as baby Spphia takes her first breath's. Don't forget to adjust for your time zones. Mommies, I am washing the babys towels and clothes and so forth and I get this bad anxiety like I had 1st trimester that by washing and preparing for him, something will happen and he won't ever get to use this stuff. I keep telling myself that he is healthy and no one is going to hurt him but it is still nagging at me. Am I totally crazy? Does anyone else feel like this? I guess my fear is probably increased with his Father coming back in the picture and my fear that he may have bad intentions.

LOVED the medela pump in style!!

mayra.mommy.to.be - 14.5 hours ago
3 on boared I know what you mean I always feel him way down when he has the hiccups and today I felt it under my rib I'm so scared he hasn't turned

3rdOnBoard - 15.2 hours ago
I am a little worried tonight. I have felt very uncomfortable all day today across my bump and tonight I could feel the baby hiccuping under my ribs rather than down in my pelvis as I usually do. Hope the little devil hasn't turned breech on me!

stephncorey-I had the Ameda double electric and love it!! I`ll use it again with this baby..was easy to clean as tubes never get anything in them..just clean the outer parts. It`s worth every penny....my sister said she used a manual single pump and didn`t complain...sooo depends what you`re going for..I liked to get them both done at once and choose my suction and such..it also came with an awesome lil cooler bag as well as carrying bag...I still use both of those since stopping breastfeeding.

kentuckyfinest96 - 20.5 hours ago
Frizilli I miss u next week when you go to the hospital and have your bundle of joy. Everyone pls keep Sophie in yall prayers. Can we all pray for her 5:00 on Tuesday when she is coming to the world. Make sure that God hear us. See you ladies in week 34.

heatherhunt1978 - 20.7 hours ago
Just popping in to say hi to everyone. I haven't been on much lately and wanted to check on everyone. It looks like I am feeling about the same as everyone else. Just think it's all almost over!! You ladies take care of yourselves and get as much rest as possible.

matteosmama - 21.3 hours ago
I've heard good things about the Medela Pump In Style. What I like to do, is research the product names (Avent, Medela, Lasinoh) and then go on Amazon.com and check the product reviews. Then, I go on google shopping and research the best prices. I've seen some electric pumps for around $125.

Lizzard55 - 21.7 hours ago
Stephncorey- On the breast pumps, I got one that was like $50.00. I didn't want someone (or me) to pay 300.00 for a breast pump. I would also be wierd about one from the hospital but try one... If you don't like go buy one from the store! Good luck with that though!!

Lizzard55 - 21.8 hours ago
Hey ladies- I had my apointment today and everything was fine. I go to one more two week appointment and then it is every week from then on!!! My shower is on Sunday and I can't wait to see what i got! My sister just came in from California so I am excited to see her!! I have not done anything for the baby's room yet. I am assuming (and you know what they say about assuming!) that my husband will do everything next week!! (Paint the room, get the crib set up, build everything from the shower). we will see though. SFrizzle- I am soooo happy everything is good with Sophia's heart!!! I hope now you get the weight!! I have not packed my hospital bag yet. I figure it will give me something to do when I think I am going into labor. Keep me concentrating on something. MYBABY- I hope things go well for you this weekend. If not. Screw him!! You'll be fine without him!! On the nesting subject. I am mentally nesting also!! I haven't actually gotten the energy to get up and do it yet. I hope that comes soon because I have a lot of things to get done soon!!

stephncorey - 23.4 hours ago
Oh.... Breast Pumps.... Advice? Rent from the hospital or buy? And if buy is it only a good idea to get the expensive ones?? I notice there are cheaper ones and then the 300$ pumps. If you all say purchasing is the way to go I want to put one on layaway this weekend, as times are a little tight and I have 4.5 weeks till little Cullen gets here.. Thoughts??

tootsieroll - 1 days ago
Hello everyone! My appointment went well today. The doctor said that I am measuring just fine. I am glad to hear that everyone is doing fine. Another idea for a neutral baby shower game is to take paper plates, place them on top of everyone's head and draw a picture of a baby. The mommy to be picks the best. It was a lot of fun at my shower. We also tasted and guessed baby food.

riff-raffmom - 1 days ago
Hi ladies, I'm from week 22 and I just found out my baby has an EIF (Echogenic intracardiac focus). Its a softmarker for Down Syndrome.... I was wondering if any of you all had one and what's your take. I don't want to worry through the rest of my pregnancy.

matteosmama - 1 days ago
BerryMama: You can have it like a regular party. Just regiter for gifts in neutral colors. Games: Estimate size of your belly with toilet paper..everyone rips off the roll the size they think it is. Measure it and count the squares..closest is the winner! Or 30 Seconds to list as many baby names (B or G) starting with a letter. Point doesn't count if anyone else has name. Fun game! For party favors, I ordered customized mint tins..they have many neutral fun styles. And for decorations, just a few helium ballons in a corner..i'm not a fan of cheesy decorations.

stephncorey - 1 days ago
MyBabySurprise- Good luck this weekend! I truly hope he has come around and has nothing but good intentions towards you and the baby!! My thoughts are with you!!! You'll have to let us know how it went. XOXO

Hi Ladies! Just writting for the first time but I have been checking this site daily for quite some time and have quietly enjoyed this journey with everyone! Thought it's about time to start contributing!

mrsrandall - 1 days ago
scared n single- sorry for the delay! At her 31 wk she was 4 lbls 12 oz... so almost 5 lbls! which if they grow 1/2 a pound a week that will put her at about 6-6.5 lbls! I havent had her checked since 31 weeks tho! My doc is doing the group b strep test at 35 weeks and at 37 he will do another u/s to see how she is measuring and if she's ready... He said he's gonna induce me! is your doc talking anything about inducing?

MyBabySuprise - 1 days ago
asw, if anything is suspicious then they will just make sure that the ultrasounds (size of baby) shows continuous growth. I am sure that thier malpractice insurance requires that. DOn't forget that your OB has one of hte highest malpractice insurance rate out of any dr and so has to be over and above sure on things. My doctor has ultrasounded me just about every 2 weeks since I was 7 weeks pregnant just to be sure everything is OK. He doesn't have any concerns about the baby though so no worries. I don't really have time to go weekly but I am excited to start it because that means he will be here any day. Scared, my apt is almost all unpacked and set up now. It's taken a month so get started. lol. I will see the Father of my baby for the first time since June 4 this weekend and I am super nervous and scared and excited, I need some mental help. I am excited that he wants to be involved with the baby now but scared he has bad intentions. Wish me luck mommies, the closer Sunday comes the more my anxiety rises.

Kentuckyfinest & My baby suprise: thanks for the welcom and I wish I had joined earlier too....it would have probably helped a lot! I'm not going every week yet I'm going everother week...muy doc starts every week at 36 or 37 wks I believe! Stephncorey: I haven't had an u/s since 24wks all my doctor does is measure my uterus with measuring tape and based on that gives my an estimated size of my baby...he said they don't do any more ultra sounds unless they nelieve something is wrong or the uterus is measuring big. I was dissapointed I wanted to see him so bad!

asw - 2 days ago
So yesterday I went to the doctors again. the place I go to has 4 doctors...which is good cuz its easier to make apts. Well the last one I had said I measured too small so I needed an ultrasound. This one said the same thing and STILL wants me to have another. I'm fine with having all these because I get to see the baby. But the tech keeps saying the baby measures just fine when I see her, It's starting to make me feel like the the doctors are looking for something wrong with my baby! All the way up to the last 4 weeks everyone has told me I looked too small and the doctors told me I was where I was supposed to be and now they started I dunno what to do they said my weight gain has been right this whole time...so eat more? ugh!

Berrymama - 2 days ago
What do you do for a shower if you will not know the gender prior to birth? Any ideas or anyone who has done this please comment on my poll. Thanks.

kentuckyfinest96 - 2 days ago
Scared and Single Im with you on the nesting thing. I did get the baby room together last weekend. Painted and all. Washed up a bunch of clothes and stuff. I think this weekend I will continue to clean, but who knows. Frizilli I hope Sophie has gotten bigger, but Im sure she has. Brans 1st baby welcome to the site. I wish u could of have joined us earlier. Going to my next doctor appt. on Monday. I hope I didnt gain anymore weight. She has been on me because of my weight. After this appt. I start going to the doctor every week. Yeah Yeah. Has anyone else start going weekly? On the hospital bag subject I had my packed about a month ago. I been getting stuff like body wash and new nightgowns for the hospital. Im ready for my little Diva! Im just waiting on her. All Im so in Love! LOL

tarste - 2 days ago
while my mother keeps telling me i'm not as big as my first! i still get the shocked looks and comments when i say i still have 7wks to go. Coz i'm so low they think i'm about ready to pop! but hey, i got these comments with my first so i dont care wot ppl say! I'm dam proud of my belly!

scared n single - 2 days ago
Stephncory - I think every doc's different when it comes to u/s but I would think they would do it to make sure baby isnt too big. Measuring fundal height (measuring tape on belly) really isnt an accurate way of telling the size of the baby, especially at this far along. So many other factors can influence it. Wouldnt hurt to mention it to your doc to see what he/she usuallly does.

scared n single - 2 days ago
OMG 10lbs at 37 weeks?! I didnt wanna hear that! haha! Im pretty sure I only have a few weeks left - because ive been so symptomatic with my bp being all over the place they said they will likely induce once I hit 35 weeks. Works for me b/c I wanted her to come before Xmas so badly!! As for nesting....I have been mentally in the nesting mode lol. I look around at everything I want to do, however it makes me so tired that I decide to sleep instead. Neeed to get this place unpacked before baby comes tho!!

stephncorey - 2 days ago
M.E.A my Doc told me baby is fine within plus or minus 3. CM to Weeks.. If your little buggy has a good strong heart beat Im sure everything is good!

stephncorey - 2 days ago
Hi girls.. I've noticed you all tlking about how the babies are measuring... My doc has just been using the tape and measuring my outter belly. 35cm as of Tuesday. My question is do I hae to ask him fr a ultrasound to get the aproximate fetal weight?? Is this something he will do for me ya think?

m.e.a - 2 days ago
what?? i went in for a check up and im measurin 29 cms when im almost 34 weeks? is that normal? i even asked the doctor he didnt respond lol i dont know anymore. im going tonight to watch new moon with my friends i really cnt be bothered im so tired but i know i need to go out before baby number 2 comes i will never have time for me =[

MyBabySuprise - 2 days ago
I know what you mean. I wanted to go see the midnight viewing of New Moon but I can't stay up that late now. I guess nights like that are in the past now. SFrizzel, I can't wait to hear how big sophia is measuring. I think I am starting to nest. Nopey, I am getting an epi. Water shots sound horrible. Brans1stBaby, welcome and glad you decided to join in. I am 34 and am having my first and a little scared too.

3rdOnBoard - 2 days ago
I am ssooo hungry all the time over the last few days. I haven't put much weight on this pregnancy and I really don't want to start now. Especially as baby is already measuring two weeks ahead. I'm trying not to eat too much. Baby must be trying to gain some weight but I've got to push it out yet!!!

Crystal-ann - 2 days ago
haha..... well its 8:30 pm and im going to bed ...lol... I cant believe how tired I am all the time. I woke up at 7 am to get my daughter on the bus for school , went back to sleep till 12:30 ... and now im going to bed again.... I was never ever this tired with my daughter. I get nothing done anymore ... ugh...well 2 weeks 5 days till DH comes home ..... 8 weeks went by soooooo slowly... 7 more weeks till we get to meet this baby boy, who is draining me of my energy

sfrizzell1 - 2 days ago
We are going to the doctor tomorrow and after the wonderful news we got on her heart I'm hoping my other prayer comes true and she's at least 3.5 pounds now. I am nervous to go to the doctor because I'm scared she'll schedule the c-section for the week after Thanksgiving (1st week of December) but I know she has Sophia's best interest in mind. Anyhow, I'll update you all tomorrow when we get back.

tootsieroll - 2 days ago
I have my bi-weekly appointment tomorrow. All of my friends at work say the baby has dropped a lot. I am hoping that they will at least give me some restrictions tomorrow. I finally bought a baby bag the other day. Nothing special just a Jeep one. I also have the car seat but it is not in my car yet and my mom bought him his going home outfit. Jose's is a Dallas Cowboy's onesie that says Hunter's little brother. She got my nine year old a shirt that says Jose's big brother. I can't wait to see them. I haven't packed for the hospital either...kind of waiting until after my appointment tomorrow.

mama...mia - 2 days ago
I'm so tired of people at work referring to me as 'Little Mama'. Or 'you're pregnant??!!' SCREW THEM ALL!!!!!!!!

3rdOnBoard - 2 days ago
NOPEY- I also had a birth class this week, although mine was a refresher course as I already have 2 children. With the pain relief, we have two options that do not affect the baby. One is a TENS machine that sends little electrical currents through your nerves to relieve the pain. The other which is new since I had my other children is sterile water injections in your back. Apparently it is painful to have the shots but you feel the relief in minutes. I have never tried either of them but just thought I would mention them as some options.

Amanda1101 - 2 days ago
So this week just flew by and tommorow I am off to week 34 :). I feel like I should clean but then I go to start cleaning and I am so tired I just sit back down lol but I seriously need to a few more things done before my baby is here. Anyways, my baby was measuring 4 lbs at my 29 week u/s and he was in the 80 percentile then. I am sure he is almost 6 lbs now haha especially since I have been measuring 4 weeks ahead.

sfrizzell1 - 2 days ago
HelluvaAngel - I went through my nesting phase already and now I dont want to do anything. LOL

HelluvaAngel - 2 days ago
Well I think I am officially nesting! I can't quit cleaning no matter how sore and uncomfortable I am. And god help anyone who comes up behind me and makes a mess, because I will go physco on you! LOL! Feel sorry for my poor husband and son ladies because this will not be fun for them as long as this lasts! LOL!

Hi everyone! I'm new to all this but I've been checking this website out since I was about 20wks along! I am 20yrs old...33wks and 2days... having my first child...Its A Boy! I'm really nervous and anxious about what's to come...but overjoyed as well! Right now I feel really heavy and exhausted all the time....I'm currently in college full time and work two jobs but I think its starting to take a toll on my body :( idk but I've herd it doesn't get better only worse! Well hello...hope all is well with everyone else!

mama...mia - 2 days ago
Jenmomma---wow you guys have big babies! I was so scared of having a big baby that my doctor did a size check ultrasound for me at 31 weeks. She was 3lbs6oz. They said that puts her in the 25th percentile. Whew!!! My biggest was 8lbs2oz and I pushed for 3 hours before they vacuumed him out. Of course, I weighed about 100 lbs more then...

jenmomma - 2 days ago
Feels like it's getting close now. I should have my amnio in just 4 weeks from today and if her lungs are developed, we're inducing on December 19th! Yay! I can't wait to meet her, although I'm a little nervous as to how my 18 month old is going to adjust to not being the baby anymore. At least the 5 year old is excited!
