Your baby now weighs over 5.5 pounds and its crown-to-rump length is approximately 13.2 inches. Your baby's total length is around 20.25 inches at this point. Your uterus is now 6 inches from the bellybutton and the average weight gain is approximately 24 to 29 pounds.
Most pregnant women begin to feel cramped and heavy around this time and often become tired of being pregnant. Some women feel like they do not have to room to breathe or eat. You should eat small, but frequent, meals and rest as often as you can throughout the day. Your cervix will begin to dilate and efface within the next few weeks to make room for your baby's head to emerge from the birth canal. Your cervix needs to be 10 cm dilated in order to deliver your baby.
This week of your pregnancy your baby's fingernails will have definitely reached the tips of his fingers. When your baby is born, his nails may look long and pointy. Your baby is less likely to scratch himself at this point because of the lack of room in the uterus. Fat deposition will still continue and your baby is getting chubbier and rounder. Your baby's shoulders are plump at this point.

Im having that cramping too. I thought it was from constipation...i dont know but it really hurts :(
Faith0624 - 4.2 hours ago
i had the cramps and decided to call my midwife who had me go to the triage. they monitered me and my baby and all was well but they couldn't tell me exactly why i was getting the cramps. but i have dialated about 1.5 cm already and so they told me to take it easy and keep my feet up and just relax. hope this helps. also the first feedings w/ that special magic stuff is the best for the baby but i really don't know about feeding on one side and pumping on the other. hmmmm. i'd ask ur ob/midwife about that one.

alho6- I read on the breastfeeding page that you can pump on one side and nurse baby on the other side. You probably would not want to do this until you have established a good milk supply. I know that some women pump on the opposite side when they are trying to build up a freezer supply before returning back to work. But post this question on the breastfeeding forum on this website they give great advise.

if anyone is feeling stronger BH than usual or just weird cramping in general... my doc said to drink 16 oz of water and then take a warm bath for 30 min (I thought 'is she trying to get me to induce!?!') -- usually that will do the trick. if they don't lessen or get farther apart - she said to go in for a baseline.
alh06 - 4.7 hours ago
i've also heard colostrum is supposed to really help the babies immune system. another thing related to breastfeeding -- does anyone know if you can feed the baby and pump on the other side at the same time? I've read baby should eat from both sides, but some don't, so i wasn't sure if I could pump from the side he isn't eating from so that i keep up w/ production and multi-task at the same time :)

Mrsceejoy- Yesterday I had a painful day too, I had some weird cramping and I just felt exhausted and run down and it felt like everytime he kicked I felt a pinching in my vagina that made me gasp cuz it hurt a little bit, I also had a little pressure in my butt too and I was getting really worried but when I laid down it went away but it was back when I got up from my nap so I drank lots and lots of fluid and took it easy and this morning Im feeling better. So maybe try some fluids?
mrsceejoy - 5.6 hours ago
Last night I started getting mild cramping in my pelvis/vagina. The cramps werent coming at regular intervals and were only lasting 30 or so seconds although they were quite excrutiating. Went to bed and woke up this morning with the same type of cramping plus some pressure in my buttocks (like I needed to have a BM) Have any of you ladies experienced this? Any insight would be appreciated as Im kind of worried. Thanks in advance!

Although breastmilk in itself is very healthy for the baby, the colostrum is said to be the best part. I have heard people say that even if you are not planning to breastfeed, giving your baby that initial colostrum has great benefits for them. I have not heard of the hospitals having all moms to pump for the first feedings but it certainly is a great start for our babies.
megeanua - 18.8 hours ago
someone posted this link on my poll.. thought I would share
http://www.llli.org/FAQ/colostrum.html
megeanua - 18.9 hours ago
lild- I think so .. that's why I was so curious..as was my mom. She has a friend who recently welcomed first grandbaby into the world a week or so ago and the hospital had the mom pump the first few feedings. She is going to be unable to breastfeed for some reason, but they said it would still be great for baby to at least get those initial feedings.

joelisa - I would have to show my sister the 'sicko pregnancy woman' if I were you - how dare she do that to you, and to not answer your calls or text messages - what if you had gone into labor or something had happened to her daughter? I would bluntly tell her that she will never get away with doing that again!
megeanua - sorry this may come across as a stupid question but isnt all that comes out at first the colostrum? I know I tried pumping after my first baby was born and there wasnt much coming out. Would be interesting to know though as I plan on formula feeding as well.
Jessbaby3 - 20.3 hours ago
brandi~ i take GREAT comfort in knowing others feel the same way!! lol:) We are so close, yet so far!
megeanua - 20.8 hours ago
I posted a poll about this earlier, but wanted to post in here as well. My mom heard that hospitals now want the mother to pump the first few feedings after baby is born (even if they plan on formula feeding), due to how beneficial the early milk can be for the baby. Any truth to this? I plan on formula feeding but think this sounds like a great idea.
megeanua - 22 hours ago
brittany- my mom is the exact same way. At my baby shower, every time someone new walked in she made me stand up and show my belly. She is so proud and excited.. as embarrassing as it can be, it's cute sometimes.
My nesting issues moved to the yard today.. I cut down a small bush, fixed a gate, and attempted to kill all the poison ivy. I now have red blotches all over my legs and can't decide if I got in the poison ivy or mosquitos attacked me. Either way.. my belly is so getting in the way of my itchy legs. I don't think I have ever gotten in poison ivy.. what do I need to put on it.. calamine lotion?
brandi0881 - 22.2 hours ago
Jessbaby- ME TOO ME TOO ME TOO!!! I am walking as much as I possibly can!
xobrittanyox - 22.7 hours ago
Megean that's too funny ppl ask me that too.. They are like when did that happen? Um how about 8 months ago genious, well I try to be a little nicer about it though.. My mom is so excited about it she always tells the ppl at her work look at the baby when I come in and sometimes its just annoying..or we were at a cookout and from across the yard she wanted me to stand up while I was eating lol umm I don't think so they can come walk over here hello do ppl forget what it was like being pregnant lol
xobrittanyox - 22.7 hours ago
So I went to the baby doctors yesterday and she told me to start taking the primrose oil at week 36, anyone else advised this?
megeanua - 22.8 hours ago
I had someone ask me if I am pregnant today.. haha I really wanted to be mean and say no.. my stomach just sticks out that far and is rock hard ALL the time. Guess its better than being asked if its twins.. thats what most people usually ask.

uh no Jolisa, you are not over-doing it. I wouldn't like it either. I can't hardly dump my child off on anyone in my family--I couldn't imagine that. : )

I haven't been getting enough rest lately. I'm so tired and mad. I told my big sis I had somewhere to go yesterday, and she waits til I started washing dishes and then she just leaves. Oh the messed up part of this story is she has a 2yr old daughter, who is bad. Well anywho she left me with her, so my niece was running around the house. She was just getting into stuff and not listening. So my BF was getting mad @ me because I told him I was coming and he was going to come pick me up. But that all changed because I end up watching my niece. So after awhile I had got pissed off and started calling and texting my big sis, and she's not answering. Ok so she left @ 7 30 pm and came back home @ 2 something in the morning. I was pissed because she messed up my plans so she could have fun, while I'm watching her kid. Does anyone else think that's messed up besides me? Or am I over doing it?
alh06 - 1 days ago
just got back from my pre-birth appointment. the birthing room is soo nice! everything they do to the baby after he is born is done right in the room so we can watch - they even bring a scale in to weigh him. and the bathroom has the jacuzzi tub, which may/may not be fun. can't help think about the mess that could be in the water ... w/ me in it! ... but at that point, i probably won't care about that!!

u know, i felt/heard weird noises the other day when the baby was moving ... and have no clue what they were. they did seem sort of like a vibration, or maybe a popping/clicking noise? it was definitely weird though.
Jessbaby3 - 1 days ago
I have noticed this morning that when my baby moves, i hear a clicking noise. Kinda like when you pop you knuckles. Has anyone else felt/heard this?
MS.mom - 1 days ago
jenakatessa- Lmao! mucous plug is pretty much what it says. It is a very mucous type plug that is a barrior between the cervix and placenta. Sometimes people don't realize they lose theirs, some don't, and some notice they do lose it after they go to the bathroom. Just real mucousy and have brown-pink tinged blood.

such a rough night last night. I woke up at 3 am and felt awful. My lower back was killing me, my hip wouldn't work, and to top everything was so sick to my stomach, felt like I was coming down with a stomach virus. Finally laid back down at 4 and crazy dreams would not let me sleep. Just started cooking breakfast but I am so apprehensive to even try to eat. I am ready for my little guy to get here.

I am really ready to see our son now!! I am tired of being uncomfortable all of the time. The aches and pains are never ending. There is not one minute in the day that I don't feel like I am in some kind of pain. I am done working on the 15th and I can't wait. Maybe it will be better then. I hope to have my c-section on the 20th of this month. My doc said he would do it at 38 or 39 weeks. On July 20th I will be 38 weeks. I want the baby to be healthy he was right at 7pds at my ultrasound @ 34 weeks so IDK I am just ready to hold him and start feeling better. The things we do for our kiddos!!!

Faith0624 - 1 days ago
quick question...strange one too...so lately i've been feeling my baby vibrate a little. If i look at my belly it shakes fast. Kinda like when you get a really good stretch and your muscles start to shake. Is anyone elses baby moving like this???? please advise i'm a little nervous since I have been diagnosed w/ epilepsy. thanks
Faith0624 - 1 days ago
i haven't lost my mucus plug yet. i read that if you do lose it that delivery is a couple weeks away. i would really get checked out just to be sure. oh yeah, i also have the crazy hip pain, tail bone, and back pain. i thought i was good seeing as how i had this pain a few weeks ago and now it's back. I'm right there with you ladies. this is no longer fun or cute and i'm totally ready for it to be over.

good morning, happy friday and hope you all have a good and safe 4th weekend. Just hit 35 weeks today. Had to go the Triage last night cause i was getting period like cramps. Turns out that i'm 30%effaced but i'm long and 1.5cm dialated. so doctors orders i have to rest. bummer. anyway. how are all of you ladies doing?

tif789 - 2 days ago
for those of you that know you are dialated or effaced, have you all lost your mucus plug too or not? I'm just curious. I am having a lot of contractions right now but i havent lost my plug so i think it may be false

Hey Ladies!
Had my second 3d ultrasound today. She was much more cooperative and let us see more of her face. I uploaded some of the new pics from today.. Check them out if you want!
Me and Mike are going to get the stroller and carseat tonight! Seems like everything is going on sale right now! So cannot complain about that.
Getting kinda p/o'ed at my doctor's office.. I haven't been seen in like 2-3 weeks! The other day I went.. My doc had to leave for an emergency c-sec.. When I called today to make an appointment for tomorrow morning.. They said they will be closed.. So I asked about Monday morning.. And they said my Doc was gonna be gone until thursday! So that's the earliest they could take me. I'm so pissed about that! How will I know if something is wrong? Or if i've dilated any?! I won't be able to tell her about the pain's in my 'va jj' bones or inner thighs at the top until then. Something could go wrong! Ugh... Guess i'm just over reacting a little? I just wanna know that everything is okay.
Anywho, 36 wks Sunday! wooooo. Hope all you ladies are doing well! xx :)

i told my DH i wish there was a way to simulate what we feel from the inside so that they can experience it too ... he said 'no thank you!'. men can't fully get what they baby is doing from just feeling on the outside ... and our little guy moves like a mad man, it'd be nice if he could relate. :)

I had a dr.'s appt today & was telling her about that same pain & she verified it's the pelvic bones beginning to shift open in preparation for birth. I can remember my days in nursing school where I learned about all these amazing things a woman's body goes through for bringing a life into the world, but actually feeling all these things = not so amazing.
