Born & Birth stories

Your baby now weighs over 5.5 pounds and its crown-to-rump length is approximately 13.2 inches. Your baby's total length is around 20.25 inches at this point. Your uterus is now 6 inches from the bellybutton and the average weight gain is approximately 24 to 29 pounds.

Most pregnant women begin to feel cramped and heavy around this time and often become tired of being pregnant. Some women feel like they do not have to room to breathe or eat. You should eat small, but frequent, meals and rest as often as you can throughout the day. Your cervix will begin to dilate and efface within the next few weeks to make room for your baby's head to emerge from the birth canal. Your cervix needs to be 10 cm dilated in order to deliver your baby.

This week of your pregnancy your baby's fingernails will have definitely reached the tips of his fingers. When your baby is born, his nails may look long and pointy. Your baby is less likely to scratch himself at this point because of the lack of room in the uterus. Fat deposition will still continue and your baby is getting chubbier and rounder. Your baby's shoulders are plump at this point.

The baby begins to develop its own immune system.

Yayyy week 35 for me :D It feels like it took forever to get to this point but in the end will be alll worth with :)

mamacas26 - 13.4 hours ago
Week 35 tomorrow! Third baby, don't know the sex. I'm getting excited, but I'm still not feeling 'done'. My baby shower is tomorrow, and then I plan on getting out baby pajama's and gowns that my son used (the more neutral ones) and wash them. I'm feeling so blessed! I really love this little one inside and am so excited to meet him or her...

I just entered wk 35 and have been getting really painful PMS cramps today. Anyone else getting these? This is my 3rd pregnancy and I don't recall getting them before. My bump is really quite low and MW wrote 3/5ths engaged in my notes last week. Hope someone can enlighten me further. :o)

hjwelch - 23.2 hours ago
Yay week 35! This will be an interesting week as my daughter was born at week 35 so I am really wanting to have this one cook some more... Have two OB appts this week, one regular and one with the High Risk OB to see if the low lying placenta has moved AT ALL to open up the possibility of a VBAC (though it is unlikely). Then I will know for sure that the C will be scheduled for the 10th of December though everyone thinks that I will go into labor early....

missy7777 - 1 days ago
Good luck julieisexpecting!!!!....

julieisexpecting - 1 days ago
I put up the Christmas Tree today. I know it's early, but I know I won't have time to do it after the baby arrives. Took me 3 hours to do it and my back was killing me afterwards! Now I am just waiting for the sun to go down so I can see how it looks at night! :)

nonymiss - 1 days ago
Im so glad I found this forum!! My last two children had to be induced because they were late. My youngest weighed 9 lbs 15 oz when she was born and they say each child is supposed to get bigger! The last time I saw the doctor my cervix was softened but showed no dialation. I am hoping to not have to wait until my due date because she is measuring two weeks bigger than what she is! Any other experiences with labor induction? I wonder if because my last two were induced, this one will be too? Im so ready to be DONE with pregnancy!

julieisexpecting - 2 days ago
Missy - the centiles was explained to me as being the babys growth. Sounds like your bub is growing nicely!! I am being induced on Monday because my baby is in the 10 centiles and she is barely weighing in at 5 pounds now.

missy7777 - 2 days ago
My baby is 93 centiles ...what does it mean?

Ms.Nic - 2 days ago
Well I seen my OB today, I am measuring at 41 weeks baby is apprx 7 lbs and now its just a waiting time. My Dr would like me to go before the end of the month and if not then he has booked me in the hospital for Dec 1st for induction. I am so excited yet nervous at the same time.. Have an awesome weekend everyone. Congrats to the moms who are now off work and to the moms who are still working, hang in there your almost done!!xoxoxox

tlovely - 2 days ago

lmgibson - 2 days ago

Ashle - 2 days ago
Are you going to the dr every week or every two weeks?

lmgibson - 2 days ago
Im off to 36 weeks tomorrow too. I had my OB appt. Im not even opening yet or anything. He did say he was gonna induce me the week after thanksgiving. Nothing big considering Im due the 5th of December. But hey thats a couple days sooner I get to see my baby. But now that Im home my tummy hurts like crazy. Hope all is well with you all.

vickywoodhall - 2 days ago

nina1987 - 2 days ago
peppies if i was feeling like you id go to the docs it could be that your blood presure is low or maybe you have anemia as they both can make you feel incredibly slow and heavy and make you feel like you have no energy as for the period type of pain i was told yesturday its a good thing and that your body is doing the right thing hope this helps but if you really feel like some thing is not right go to see the doctor they wont mind if its nothing to worry about they would rather you be safe and feel reasured x

peppies - 2 days ago
I need some advise or something. I am not feeling good at all these days, it feels like I don't have enough blood and oxygen in my body, it's a lot of effort to lift my arms my head feels like it's in the clouds I get stabbing pains in my lower back it sometimes feels like I will start my periods any day, I also have the shakes. What's going on with me......

nina1987 - 2 days ago
wooo hooo i saw my midwife yesturday and she gave me a lot of encouragment and support for my VBAC attempt my baby is already engaged and she thinks this baby will be here sooner then expected so fingers crossed she is right hope all you mummy's are doing well and feeling as good as i do x

munkobaby - 2 days ago
GRACE IS HERE EARLY. Well, I went into labor on Wednesday (11/4) at 35w.4d and ended up having to do our csection even earlier than planned. Grace Amelia Munko was born at 7:45 at 5lbs. 14oz and is strong and healthy. There were no complications and we feel completely blessed. I will try to get a couple pictures posted when I get home on Saturday, but as you all know, life just got a little crazier. I am wishing you all the very best in these final days of pregnancy. You have all been there with me on this journey and I appreciate it so much.

Julieisexpecting: I pray that wveryting goes well for u. let me know how everything turns out. Goodluck! I am still holding on :-)

julieisexpecting - 2 days ago
I just got back from the hospital. They did another ultrasound. My fluid is lower than it was on Monday, so I am still leaking. In addition to that they checked Amelia's size. She went from being in the bottom 30 percentile of growth to being in bottom 10 percentile of growth. She's still moving a ton and has a strong heart beat, but they want to go ahead and start inducing me before she goes into distress. They checked my cervix and it's already starting to thin. They are going to start me on Cervidil on Monday night, and they will break my water on Tuesday. Looks like I will have my baby soon! I'm 36 weeks on Sunday, so she will just be a few days preterm. Feels so surreal that I will be a mommy soon!!!

abbyh - 2 days ago
Ashle, it sounds like your baby could be dropping and maybe you could be having Braxton Hicks contractions, but it's always good to check with your OB, because I'm no doctor! Just some things to look into while you're waiting, I guess. Braxton Hicks contractions are totally normal and it's not real labor, so don't worry if that is what you are experiencing. I hope that helps some! Let us know what's up when you find out in case that happens to one of us!

lmgibson - 2 days ago
well, I get to go see my OB tomorrow. One of two things are probably gonna happen. Either he doesnt check me or he does and I havent dilated. I really dont like my OB he never tells me anything about the baby besides im on track and see you next month. To bad he was the only one taking new pregnant women. Wish me luck I hope Im at least dilated to something. Cuz these contractions are painful

daylizmom - 3 days ago
Missy7777- Dont feel bad I am going through the same thing. I have cried many times for no reason and my crying spells last very long. I started feeling like this when I turned eight months pregnant. I also feel lonely at times though my husband is there. I cannot explain it and I know that it is our hormones going crazy.. I just wanted you to know that I am going through the same thing and it is a horrible feeling :(

missy7777 - 3 days ago
..I feel so bad today...;(...crying without reason..my partner makes me crazy!he doesn't do anything ,,he doesn't help at home or next to our 5 years old daughter...he works at night so during the day he sleeps...we see him 2 hrs a day.. He is soooo boring...And I feel very lonely..trying to keep myself busy to do not get crazy!...and now I'll go to bed, maybe tomorrow will be better day...nite girls.

Babythreeindecember - 3 days ago
Went to doc today, not even dialated yet...... was kinda bummed about that one. Also all the cramping ive been having is apparently some stomach virus that is going around. Next week he is gonna measure baby again to recheck his weight and the size of his head/shoulders.

Ashle - 3 days ago
oh and nauseous too

Ashle - 3 days ago
Hi Ladies, need some help, I called my Dr. but im waiting on a call back and that takes 4 ever sometimes, I will be 35 weeks tomorrow and i feel funny today, like im starting my period, heavy feeling with cramping. Is this normal?

cherryzz - 3 days ago
I feel like im having poor blood circulation in my legs. Is that normal?

supernova - 3 days ago
lmgibson- Thanks, you're right she would have sent me in right away if it was serious enough. There are so many variables when it comes to weight...and on the bright side, I get to see my little boy one more time before the big day. I'll keep you posted :)

lmgibson - 3 days ago
supernova- I wouldnt be able to tell you if i have gained wieght or not. I quit looking at the scale a long time ago..lol.. But, I wouldnt stress out about this. I think if your doctor thought it was that serious he would of got you in for the scan the same day. Keep me updated.

julieisexpecting - 3 days ago
Erica - I started getting carpel tunnel also. Mine is in my wrist on my left hand and it would get painful at night when I was sleeping. It seems to have subsided a bit since I'm not working now though. My swelling has gone down quite a bit now that I'm not working and I think that has something to do with it.

erica93 - 3 days ago
nikki, what does your carpel tunnel feel like. I think I might be getting it.

supernova - 3 days ago
Has anyone else not put on any weight in the past few weeks? My Dr. is sending me for a growth scan because I haven't gained any weight since week 32. Everything else is going great, but I'm a bit worried since my scan isn't until Nov. 17th...seems like too long to wait if there is a problem! I've read it's normal to even lose weight near the end, but I didn't think that was supposed to happen until week 36. I'd really appreciate any feedback you ladies may have. Thanks!

angelaz - 4 days ago
Hi ladies - I had a pelvic exam yesterday. My OB is concerned about the position of the baby so I am going to have an US next week. She thinks she is posterior.(facing forward?) She told me not to worry about it for now. Any one else having this?

rachy2606 - 4 days ago
Yes, it could also be hiccups..Thats even more noticeable so it may well be them instead! I completely forgot about that! My LO was 8lbs 9oz at birth, and he was estimated at 7lbs..go figure?!

nikki.e - 4 days ago
ok so i am so ready to have my baby!! my feet swelled for the first time yesterday-i couldnt belive it when i put my shoes on the straps were so tight and uncomfortable. im not going to go buy new shoes now, i guess ill be bear foot for most of the time from now on... and my carpel tunnel syndrome is feeling worse than ever!! im 36 weeks tomorrow and only 4 weeks to go but im hoping my baby will decide to make an early appearance!!!!!!

lmgibson - 4 days ago
you all are so lucky. I have only had 2 u/s. I probably wont be getting any more either. I have been having alot of BH contractions at least 5-10 min apart. I just wish they were strong enough to do something. Specially since they arent the most enjoyable thing. lol

dkotlajich - 4 days ago
Just got back from the doctor. My menstral-type cramps are actually from a hernia operation I had 25 years ago! I guess the mesh they used to repair it is being pushed out due to the size of the baby/uterus. She checked and I'm not dilated at all, but his head is really low.

vickywoodhall - 4 days ago
ilovemyboy-i think its normal as im feeling the same way too my braxton hicks are getting ever increasing in strength and discomfort over the last few weeks, im at the midwifes tomorrow so il ask her as i had lots sunday and then i think lost some of my mucus plug monday! not long to go now xx

traciemac - 4 days ago
missy sounds like hiccups to me. Paige has them every night and seems like more when i have something really sweet.

ilovemyboy - 4 days ago
can't believe that I am in week 35, yahooooo i have been so crampy and having braxton hicks. could he come early or is that normal?

missy7777 - 4 days ago
Thank you Rachy2606...:)..I feel much better now.:)..by the way,my little girl is 3,150kg,and I've been told that she will be a huge baby.. I hope it won't be a difficult birth!

rachy2606 - 4 days ago
Missy, I am not in this week, in fact im not even pregnant! I have a 9 month old little boy..But I noticed your comment and when I was pregnant, if I sat down and relaxed, I could see my baby practising his breathing..it was against ym belly and it would go up and down ever so slightly..i thought it was amazing! It happened alot too..I reckon its your baby practising his breathing..I had a scan around 35 weeks to confirm babys position, and during the scan, I could visibly see the lungs breathing in and out on the screen. It is very possible to see this on your belly too.

missy7777 - 4 days ago
Hi everyone..well,I have a question..I've been experiance those funny baby moves which are like breathing rhythmics moves which I can feel and see clearly.they coming and going..but I can notice them at least once a day for a few minutes..is anyone experiance those baby moves?my midwife said that it's not normal,so now I'm worry if everything is ok with my baby..sorry for my English!!!please help!

Ms.Nic - 5 days ago
