Born & Birth stories

By the end of this week, you will most likely be expecting your period to come. However, if you are pregnant your period will most likely not come. Some women do experience some spotting or even a light period. It is also possible to have your period and still be pregnant! If you do miss your period, you might begin to think about a possible pregnancy! Home pregnancy tests are not as reliable as blood tests at this point. A blood test will detect a positive pregnancy test at this point because the hormone, human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG), has been secreted.

At this point in your pregnancy, your growing baby is very small and is about 1 mm in length. One mm is about half of the size of a typed letter `o`. You are still not showing at all and you have not yet gained any weight. Even though you are in the very early stages of your pregnancy, many great changes are occurring. The implanted embryo is embedded deeper in the lining of your uterus and the amniotic cavity is beginning to form. The placenta is also forming and will be delivering oxygen and nutrients to your developing baby. This week the blastocyst begins to transform into an embryo. The embryo will have three different layers with different types of tissue. The inner layer will form the lungs, liver, digestive system and pancreas. The middle layer will become the skeleton, muscles, kidneys, blood vessels and heart. The outer layer will become the skin, hair, lenses of eyes, tooth enamel and the nervous system.

A clear result. If you tried it a few days ago and the result wasn't as convincing as in this picture, try it again now to be sure!

Even though you have not yet gained any weight, you need to be prepared to gain weight during pregnancy. Gaining a healthy amount of weight is crucial for the health of both mother and baby during pregnancy. You can control your weight gain by eating healthy and nutritious meals and snacks. During pregnancy you are eating for two, but that does not mean you have to eat twice as much!

Your body now starts producing a hormone which stops you having your period, and it shows in your urine.

It is now possible for your pregnancy to show up on blood tests, and even home pregnancy tests.

About 1 in 3 women have a light bleeding at this point. This happens before you would expect your period to arrive. Unless accompanied by cramping, backache or increased bleeding, a small amount of blood being discharged should be considered as implantation bleeding which is nothing to be concerned about.

At this point, your baby is still not visible to the naked eye.

Ok i'm pretty positive I'm pregnant I'm having all the same symptoms I did with my daughter and some that I had with my son.If I am I should be due somewhere around October 16th-20th.But I have a question when I was pregnant with both babies I got the really dark blue veins on my boobs and I have them again now.But I was wondering can they show that dark all the way from your nipple to your side like under the arm pit?Mine are that bad now and I've never had them show up that bad.

Anyone who was interested in my babywipes recipe...I just posted it on my page.

acruz2343 - 5.5 hours ago
i read in here that the digital pregnancy tests were only 10 bucks now so i sent hubby out to buy some for me so i can retest for the next couple days..=) ..i like it to be clearly spelled out for me!..LOL..when i have no symptoms i always wonder if things are ok..i tend to get slammed with m/s around 8 weeks, so i want to enjoy the early weeks as much as possible!

BabyView - 6.5 hours ago
Thanks ladies! I can't wait to go to the Doctor now:) I do have some books and I've been reading up on what to eat and what not to eat. Just read the 'Best Odds' diet in What to Expect When You're Expecting. I didn't realize it was so hard to get all the nutrients (even with the prenatal and changes I already made) that the baby needs...trip to the grocery store is in order for me this week:)

jamie86 - 6.7 hours ago
BabyView from my experience the first visit they just confirmed my pregnancy and told me what to expect. They scheduled me for an u/s at my first appt and told me after I got to 10 wks they could listen to the heartbeat on the doppler. All dr are different though. Getting to hear the heartbeat is the best sound in the world. I am calling tomorrow to schedule my first appt hopefully it won't be to far off.

collsbaby - 7 hours ago
Baby View, (This was my experience, all hospitals and insurance run differently)-he'll put a monitor on your belly to find the baby's heartbeat and usually by the 7 week ultra sound (sometimes it's 6 or 8, depending) you'll be able to see the heartbeat! It's very cool! You won't be able to tell the sex til about week 18 sometimes earlier like week 16, but some dr's don't do that ultrasound til much later. It just depends. Mine was week 18 when we found out, but a friend of mine had to wait til week 26!! We're not going to find out this time around. He'll also tell you what you should be eating and what you shouldn't be eating. And then every time you go he'l listen for the heartbeat, but that first time is just AMAZING!! Be sure to look into what you should and shouldn't be eating right now on the internet/pregnancy books, then confirm with your doc. Some vary on how strict they are. I'd rather have them be strict. Can't be too cautious when you are growing a human being inside of you!!

I have my first Dr's app. tomorrow at 11am. I'm sooo excited! He'll do a blood test to confirm and test my HCG levels.... i still can't believe i'm finally having a baby! My M/S has really eased up.. i hope that's not somethign I should be concerned about ... possible sign of m/c impending? i can't think like that.. besides. i'm still exhausted and have massive and sore bb's..... anyway. focus on the positive right?

BabyView - 7.7 hours ago
This is my FIRST baby. I am feeling tired, but nothing much more. I took another HPT today to double check...still so surreal:) Dr. can't get me in until 2/23! What'll he be able to tell me about future baby when I go?

lovingmylilgirl - 10.6 hours ago

chakra mom - 12.8 hours ago
Mrs Kiwi, we're in the same boat - my son will be two weeks shy of 2 years old when this baby is born! Congratulations!

chakra mom - 12.8 hours ago
Morgan: I was just thinking about how my 15 month old will be with a new baby. He got jealous when I held a puppy the other day, lol.

chakra mom - 12.9 hours ago
CLARA: how do you make your own baby wipes? Would love to know! I'm going to plant a garden this year, baby steps. FAITHFUL: Both of my Grandmothers were twins, but now that we have a 15 month old, I hope it's just a single healthy baby! I can't even imagine - what a trip! (but fun!) Well we told our son's pediatrician today that we're expecting, so now another person knows. lol How is everyone feeling? Lots of good energy to everyone! Grow babies grow!

Morgan - 13.4 hours ago
my son will be 3 when this baby is born. i am worriied about how he might react with jealousy etc. i know from stories that when i was that age with a newborn sister - it was terrifying for my mum. I used to try to put my sister in the bin!! (funny now but obviously not at the time) :S

MY CHILDREN ARE 12,7,7,4,3,17MONTHS,AND IN THE OVEN.

MrsKiwi - 13.7 hours ago
Congrats hisfirstmy4th! This is my second time around on this site too. Just found out we're expecting baby no. 2, and oddly enough the due date for this one is the same as the first! My son will be turning 2 years old when this baby is due. I'm 90% excited, 10% terrified of the thought of having a two year-old and a newborn this fall!

lovingmylilgirl - 13.7 hours ago
congrats to everyone!!

hisfirstmy4th - 13.8 hours ago
hello all of my radiant bearers of blessings. I am a mommy of 6 and I am blessed with #7 on the way! This is my 2nd time on this site and I really enjoyed sharing all of my experiences with so many wise and supportive women.I am happy to be in this bunch and hope that we can all form a bond throughout this wonderful time of our lives! Can't wait to hear from you!

jamie86 - 14.6 hours ago
faithful hopefully thats what it is. I have had several people say things to me about twins and I tell them to be quiet. I don't think I could handle twins and an almost 2 year old.

faithful - 14.9 hours ago
hello jamie, yes there is that possibility based on the fact that I had twin uncles...so we will see..but I am still saying SHE IS A GIRLLLLL thats what the early m/s is about. I vote for that. lol

clara - 15.1 hours ago
Congrats, Kathy!

kathy=^.^= - 15.4 hours ago
so excited this is unplanned and baby #3 for us

clara - 17 hours ago
I hear ya, Faithful...Before we had kids, I worked, and honestly, we lived pretty comfortably. But when I quit, I really had to learn to be frugal and where to cut corners. It can be done, but it does take a lot of work. I've started making my own laundry soap, I use cloth diapers, Make my own wipes & cleaners, and I grow a big garden, and cann as much as I can. I honestly am not sure how big my garden will be this year though because they are a lot of work, and I don't want to compromise anything with the baby. We'll see. I also buy our chicken eggs from the neighbor's daughter, which we eat a lot of because they are a healthy/cheap meal. Our lifestyle def. has changed, but it's all been worth it. And in the end, it will teach our children how to work hard too. I know this lifestyle isn't for everyone, but it has really worked for us. Good luck. :)

jamie86 - 17.1 hours ago
faithful could there be a chance for twins though? I have had several people mention twins to me as well. My mom is a twin so I have a higher chance of having them.

faithful - 17.1 hours ago
Clara yeah it does seem like the 'super' in me is going to HAVE to come out God willing...we currently have two boys (ten and 5 months) and I work full time and my husband is an entrpenuer (I KNOW thats spelled wrong lol) with a business that is pretty decent..we just wonder if it would be more feasible for me to stay home after this baby...I know that we have to weigh our money situation as well as other factors like my loss of income if I quit..but part of me thinks that is going to be too much to work full time with two little babies and a fifth grader who needs constant assitance with projects and hw darn near every night!

faithful - 17.3 hours ago
Chakra NO TWINSSSS say it isnt so! lol I think that I would literally be a basket case if that were the case...I would rather go with Clara's suggestion that its a GIRLLL.. that is exactly what my husband said to me last night..thank you both for your input and congrats to you both as well!

Morgan - 19.6 hours ago
week 5 tomorrow woo hoo

chakra mom - 1 days ago
Faithful, maybe it's twins and that's why you have m/s so bad!!:) :) I had a little m/s but hardly any pregnancy symptoms.

clara - 1 days ago
Hey lilfishn...what are you up to tonight? Are you ready to graduate to week 5??? Woo hoo!!! Yee haw!

clara - 1 days ago
Oh, and faithful...I noticed in your profile that you have two boys. Maybe this one's a girlie, and that's why your m/s has kicked in so soon! :)

clara - 1 days ago
faithful...Hey! At least you'll be able to potty train them together!!! :) I know it's scary, but I've always kinda thought that would be so neat to have 2 so close. Blessings to you! You are going to be SuperMom!

mommyagain22 - 1 days ago
I have a friend who has babies 9 months apart exactly they were due to b 42 weeks apart but the baby was born early.. we joke with them that they were trying to have another before they even left the hospital! They. Are so cute and super close! :-)

faithful - 1 days ago
Thanks Lilfishn! Congrats to you as well! yeahhhh that is defitely a plus, them growing up together and all. :)

jamie86 - 1 days ago
faithful my son will be turning 1 on the 27th of this month. But I know a couple that got pregnant again within 3 months of their first being born.

faithful - 1 days ago
Awww thanks Kim for the encouraging words. Congrats to you too! Niceee that you are more than halfway finished!

lilfishn - 1 days ago
Hi faithful! congrats! I don't have an infant my daughter is two BUT I have know a lot of mommies recently that have had infants when they found out they were expecting again. My coworker had a 5 month old when she was shocked with a BFP! The youngest is 5 months old now and the family couldn't be happier:) Your babies will be so close growing up! best friends:) It will be great.

mommyagain22 - 1 days ago
Is the recession effecting anyone else? Its hard to stay excited when I look. At our scary checkbook. My fiances company has slowed down so much he is making $500-$600 less a week. I dont know how were gonna make it with a new addition!

Kim- - 1 days ago
faithful ... am from 28 weeks (and an 18 month old) ... well .. a frnd of mine found herself preg when her little boy was just a 2 months old .... dun feel embarrassed or anything... its a GOD's gift and u will find it much easier to bring them both up at almost the same time rather than going thru everything again after a few years... Good luck and CONGRATS

faithful - 1 days ago
oh yeah, my nausea kicked in before I even KNEW that I was pregnant..that and feeling exceptionally tired...with my five month old, I did not begin to feel m/s until about the 7th or 8th weel, I thought that I was going to skate by, but alas it rushed in to knock me back on my butt..

faithful - 1 days ago
Hello ladies we just found out tonight that we are having another baby, and while it is exciting it is also a bit scary since we already have a FIVE MONTH OLD. lol I was supposed to get an IUD put in THIS WEEK. lol any other ladies out here pregnant with an INFANT?? please please come forward and make me feel better and not a tad embarrassed. lol

jamie86 - 1 days ago
I wasn't saying that I want morning sickness I just find it weird that I am not having any kind of nausea yet when I did with my son. If I can get through the whole thing with out it I would. As far as keeping it a secret I have can't. I am too excited not to tell some people. I haven't told every one just yet though.

We just ordered a shirt for my 18 month old that says, 'I am going to be a big sister.' We are gonna wait till everyone is at my parents house one sunday and have her where the shirt, and thats how everyone is gonna find out! I cant wait to see my parents faces when they read it...it will be priceless, and I love the idea that my 18 month old is gonna be the one to break the good news hehe! ;)

collsbaby - 1 days ago
Thanks Clara, I was trying to think of something fun. Two of my good friends didn't get the chance to break the news themselves on FB because someone else blabbed spoiling the fun. So I wanted to be sure to do it myself. That would be a cute way to tell your mom!

clara - 1 days ago
Supercute, Collsbaby! How fun! I have some ideas. I keep getting so close to telling my mom, but then I think of how fun it will be to tell her in a creative way. I have so many ideas, since my SIL is due 6 weeks ahead of me. I took a cute pic the other day with a cloth diaper and baby pins, and my digi test. My mom is making a collage photo frame for my grandma, and she needs me to order some pics for it online at walmart, and she's going to pic them up in her town. I thought of also adding that pic of my test, so she finds it in the pics when she picks them up. Ohh! I can't wait to tell her!
