wow, I have just beemn told that my baby has a single umbilicle artery as well, however I have not been informed of any extra tests or NST’s of anysort, the doctor said I should not worry about anything!
I too have a SUA and baby is still extremely healthy with no side-effects. I have not had to do any extra testing other than an extra ultrasound to look the baby over again and make sure s/he’s developing ok. My doctor is very relaxed and confident that baby and mother are healthy. I have to watch my stress and not work too hard without resting.
I had an SUA with my baby. I had extra u/s to check over the baby. Then They had me sent to a specialist to have an echocardiogram because they found the kidneys to be larger than they should, so they wanted to check the heart and make sure it was ok. I had an u/s around 30 weeks, and then at 32 and 34 to check growth. Then starting at 34 weeks, I had 2 NST’s a week up until I had my lil man. Unfortunately a smaller cord with SUA that meant that when I went in for delivery because I was having leaking of fluid, it seemed as though everytime I had a contraction (mind you didnt feel one!!!) my lil man’s heartrate dropped in the 30’s, so they had to get him out of there so that when a REAL contraction should hit that it didnt just crush the cord completely!
i have sua as well, it was really scary to hear at first but im just being monitored more closely and theres no reason to worry, although after 2 follow up ultrasounds they still havent seen her kidneys as well as they would like because she is breech, so were going back again soon
I was told during my pregnancy that there was a possibility of cromosomal abnormalities. I was closely monitored and had some extra tests. But becuase they didnt see anytihng other than large kidneys on the U/S they didnt want an amnio done. SUA’s can just happen I was told. I always seem to find myself in that 1-5 % of people that stuff always happens to… my son is happy and healthy tho now. If anyone has any questions or concerns or just needs someone to talk to, please feel free to ask.
Hello I was diasgnosed with Single Umbilical Artery at 16 weeks. I have not had any extra monitoring other than a more extensive ultrasound to make sure that all of his systems were functioning and that he did not have a cleft pallet. I am now in my 40th week I was due July 27th and everything seems good so far. I will def keep you updated after his birth
Hi all, finally I’ve found others with the same condition as me, was begining to think I was the only 1, theres not very much infomation about this on-line anywhere. My baby was diagnoised with 2 vessel cord at my 20 week scan, but she said everything else looked healthy including his kidneys and they with just moniter his growth with extra scans at 28 and 36 weeks. I would of liked to asked my midwife more about the condition but she is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. Sorry to sound thick but what are NST’s I’ve never heard of them. I was never offered any genetic counsiling or amnios for this conditon, but did have some for my triple test results as they came back 1 in 210 chance of downs (the 20 week scan didn’t appear to show any markers so we never bothered with a amnio), but when the scan lady was talking about the 2 vessel cord she didn’t appear too concered about it hopefully this is a good thing and not that she’s bad at her job. I’m in week 23 at the moment feel free to contact me so we can discuss our issues/worries and any further information on this topic together.
Went in for 20 week u/s and too was told that our baby has SUA (Single Umbilical Artery).
I try not to read too much on the interent as it makes me full of emotion. I am trying to remain positive, but I cannot help but ask ‘why me, why after all I have been through’? We could have a perfectly healthy baby with no chromosomal or congenital abnormalities. Of course though me being the obsessor that I am cannot stop thinking about all the other things that could go wrong – chromosomal and/or other abnormalities. These can include trisomy 13 or 18 or more commonly pregnancy complications with heart defects, gastrointestinal tract abnormalities and problems with the central nervous system. The respiratory system, urinary tract, and musculoskeletal system may also be affected.
I have had my triple screen done and they have ruled out Downs and Spina Bifida to 80%. I was not worried about the remainign 20% until I heard this news. I was offered an amnio, but I decided against it. I had it done with my one successful pregnancy, but it took us so long to get t his far, I don’t want to risk it now.
I know God is watching over me and my family and taking care of all our babies in heaven. I pray tfor me and for all of you and y our babies that this journey has a good outcome.
hi ladies, i just wanted to let you all know that i had my first NST today at 33.5 weeks due to SUA we are starting early, but while i was on the labour and delivery floor doing this the nurse was telling me that another lady just delivered her baby with SUA earlier that day. both mom and baby are doing great, no problems and she was able to have a sucessful vaginal delivery which is what i personally am hoping for. good luck to everyone.
So glad to hear so much good news regarding sua !
My baby and I have sua, too. I heard already from 3 women in my area they had the same and they and their baby’s are doing fine !!! Don’t be too afraid !! Courtenay ; I am thinking of you ! Sept 25 I will have an ultra sound by a specialist to check baby’s heart.
we are going for our 4 month check up tomorrow, i am anxious to see how much shes weighin in at now, i know shes about 13.5lbs cuz i weighed her on my own scale lol. shes also grown almost 4 inches since birth!
Hi all, just to let you know I had my scan at 28w5d and everything was fine he was spot on for his dates which I’m glad about as he was a week behind at 20 weeks. We’ve got another scan at 32 weeks to make sure everything is still on track. The scan lady said she’s not had a baby with SUA who hasn’t grown and is close to if not spot on for there dates as long as everything is plumbed in correctly. So try not to worry to much if your in the early days, I know how your feeling and I was messaged by the ladies on this site with lots of postive stories and healthy births.
He’s so active these days which makes me not worry so much about him, only 10 weeks left until I get to meet him.
Good luck to all you ladies. xx
