26-1-2009 - Pain Coping techniques okMy mood while writing this blog:
ok

I had my class last night and from now on we will be doing this awesome technique to help us learn how we cope with pain. If u r thinking about a natural birth i encourage you to try it.----you take a handful of ice in one hand and a rag or cloth in the other. you will put the ice in the hand without the rag and squeeze tight. then you take a deep breath and try different coping techniques. breathing, imagery, hypnosis whatever you have learned. or just figure out what works best for you. you will hold it for a min then put it in your hand with the rag. then about a minute later back in the hand you previously had the ice in and do the same. at first try different coping techniques to see what you like best. once you have gotten it down keep practiticing until your due date. you should also vary the length of time the ice is in your hand and the space between picking it up. much like a contraction. Oh and do it on and off for like 30 mins to an hour. it was riveting and i learned alot about my coping mechanism. way diff from contractions obviously but when u get menstrual cramps and take tylenol u never know how to cope with the pain so it is a start you know. I HOPE YOU LIKE IT!!!
