| 08-6-2009 - Breaking a Bad Habit | My mood while writing this blog:optimistic |
So, I’ve fallen into the really bad habit of snuggling all night with my DD, Symphony. She is going to turn one next week and still doesn’t fall to sleep by herself. When she wakes in the night, she can’t get herself back to sleep. I was really spoiled at first: she was a great sleeper for about the first 6 months. She used to go like 10 hours straight. Somewhere along the line, I think it was after she had a really bad cold, I started holding her till she fell asleep. So, she is now very accustomed to sleeping on me. Most of the time I can put her down in the crib after she falls asleep the first time…but she wakes up about two hours later. I’m not so great when I’ve been awaken so I just take her down on the couch and sleep the rest of the night with her there. I know…BAD. But, my husband needs his sleep when he can get it so I feel I have to keep her as quiet as possible in the night. Plus, I just want to hold her as long as I can. I feel like she is growing up way to fast.
I did try cry it out a few months ago. It ended in several nights of her throwing up because she was so upset. This made me so upset to see her so unhappy that I couldn’t do it for more than a few days. Plus cleaning up the mess was getting sort-of old.
But, tonight I tried it again – since my husband is out of town. I had a small success in that even though she cried for more than an hour, she didn’t throw up. But, she did keep standing up in her crib…not such a great sleeping position. So, I kept checking on her and laying her back down. She got REALLY mad with lots of coughing and gagging. But eventually, she tired herself out and is NOW sleeping. I’m so excited that I can’t sleep.
I’m going to try again tomorrow. I’m hoping my hubby can still get some rest. Maybe I should get him some earplugs. Or, just reassure him that if we work this out…I’ll be back in our bed again…finally.
If you have any advice on getting a ONE year old to sleep on her own…I would love to hear from you.
Here`s my little cupid. Boy or Girl?...
