08-6-2009 - Breaking a Bad Habit optimisticMy mood while writing this blog:
optimistic

So, I’ve fallen into the really bad habit of snuggling all night with my DD, Symphony. She is going to turn one next week and still doesn’t fall to sleep by herself. When she wakes in the night, she can’t get herself back to sleep. I was really spoiled at first: she was a great sleeper for about the first 6 months. She used to go like 10 hours straight. Somewhere along the line, I think it was after she had a really bad cold, I started holding her till she fell asleep. So, she is now very accustomed to sleeping on me. Most of the time I can put her down in the crib after she falls asleep the first time…but she wakes up about two hours later. I’m not so great when I’ve been awaken so I just take her down on the couch and sleep the rest of the night with her there. I know…BAD. But, my husband needs his sleep when he can get it so I feel I have to keep her as quiet as possible in the night. Plus, I just want to hold her as long as I can. I feel like she is growing up way to fast.

I did try cry it out a few months ago. It ended in several nights of her throwing up because she was so upset. This made me so upset to see her so unhappy that I couldn’t do it for more than a few days. Plus cleaning up the mess was getting sort-of old.

But, tonight I tried it again – since my husband is out of town. I had a small success in that even though she cried for more than an hour, she didn’t throw up. But, she did keep standing up in her crib…not such a great sleeping position. So, I kept checking on her and laying her back down. She got REALLY mad with lots of coughing and gagging. But eventually, she tired herself out and is NOW sleeping. I’m so excited that I can’t sleep.

I’m going to try again tomorrow. I’m hoping my hubby can still get some rest. Maybe I should get him some earplugs. Or, just reassure him that if we work this out…I’ll be back in our bed again…finally.

If you have any advice on getting a ONE year old to sleep on her own…I would love to hear from you.

I have the same problem, I lived with my om for awhile because we were in a tight spot and the room was so small my DD had to sleep with us on the bed. There was no room for a bassinet or anything. Now she is almost 10 mths and she will not sleep for more than 3 hours in her own room and to get her to sleep you have to lay with her. I tried to let her cry herself to sleep but my DH does not like it when she cries so he always went to get her and brought her to bed with us. And I can't let her cry it out now because she does not sleep in her crib anymore (she got her leg caught once and hurt herself so she wants nothing to do with it), it is getting to the point where I am so frustrated and no I am pregnant again so she can't be sleeping with me anymore anyways. But there is no hope in sight for me because the DH won't lay with her until she goes back to sleep his solution is take her to mommy in the next room.

ohh boy i got the same problem too!! I snuggle with Eric all the time, i miss my hubby so much. i mean we do spend time together just got Eric always sleeping beside me. he won't sleep by himself either! i also was holding Eric until he slepted. i felt bad too as my hubby works a lot of hours and wakes up early and when he comes home i usally let him take a nap 1-2 i just go for walks with eric or go for a drive. i am sooo tired but he takes eric after he is okay.
Thats great u got her to sleep, i cant do that :( my hubby is so aarrggg and wont let Eric cry it out! if he cries for more then 5 mins he gets him or i go and get him and put him back to sleep. Just tonight i put eric in his crib at 10:30pm and within 20 mins he was cryin we tried to put him back to sleep nahhh so now 11:28 pm eric is beside me on the bed AGAIN ahh i am sooo tired of it really. i wish i could give you some help on sleeping but the only thing that gets us all a good night sleep is if Eric sleeps beside me or at my moms lol
