| 21-2-2009 - UGH... | My mood while writing this blog:tired... |
Hello everyone,
Let me give you a brief description of me real quick before I get to my issue. I am 26 and about to have my 3rd girl... fun fun! :0) This pregnancy has been so different from the two previous, that I was SURE it was a boy, but lucky for me it's another girl. Well, I told my doc a few months ago that I've been getting pretty sick and weak whenever I drink/eat anything with sugar in it. Well, on Thursday I went to the hospital on base to take a Glucose test to see if I have gestational diabetes and an anemia test. For those of you who have been fortunate enough not to have to take one of these tests, this is what it consists of. You fast for 10-12 hours (torture in itself) and then you have 5 minutes to drink this orange soda type thing that is basically pure sugar, then you wait for an hour to have your blood drawn. Well, long story short, about 40 min into the test I called my husband and told him to come to the hospital to get the girls and then I threw up and passed out! Yeah... fun. Well, the EMT told me that my blood sugar level was 44... apparently normal levels are between 80-120! So, holy cow right? Well the ER doc treated me for Hypoglycemia and talked to be about the possibility of me having gestational diabetes, but without the test being performed, they wouldn't be able to say. So in a couple weeks I have to redo the test (have MetroCare on standby) and see if they can get a conclusive answer.
Here's my question, have any of you dealt with either of these? Hypoglycemia or diabetes during pregnancy? I think I normally have hypoglycemia because my mom would always make sure I had a candy bar or something like that in my backpack. But why wouldn't it show up in other pregnancies? Also, I read that it can be caused by stress... man, I think I'm just rambling now. Alright, I'm done. Thanks for listening to me rant...
