| 10-7-2009 - Cancel the Lambourghini! | My mood while writing this blog:Exhausted |
"Cancel the Lambourghini" said my DH jokingly into his mobile "my wife isnt gonna have a heart attack after all!"
Charming! This is the response I get when I told him the midwife said I have Carpel Tunnel Syndrome. Just one more thing to add to the ever increasing lists of ailments!
Apart from the heat, vivid nightmares, migraines, stress about work (or not working to be precise!) keeping me awake, I have been suffering pins and needles in my arms and fingers at night for several weeks.
Predominantly in my left arm, (hence the inference from DH he would be claiming on the insurance money!) because the only jewelry I wear is my wedding ring on my left hand and it has been causing a "bottle neck" and preventing fluid from moving freely. Instinctively I have been taking my ring off in the middle of the night, and trying frantically to massage all fingers hands and forearms with numb tingly fingers (quite a challenge!)
The midwife who runs my Thursday night antenal exercise class has given me some exercises to do to try to help relieve some of the pressure. If it hasnt made any noticeable difference by next weeks class, she is going to make a referral to physiotherapy for me to get some splints made to hold my wrists in optimum position at night time.
Because of the lack of sleep my body is still burning more calories than I am eating so I am back to my starting weight, so I have been told off again that I need to eat more especially breakfast before I start chasing the kids round to do the school run. On Wednesday morning I was eating breakfast at about 9.30 in front of the computer, researching stuff on "constructive dismissal" (just in case!) when I felt very strange.
My eyes couldnt focus properly and the monitor looked extraordinarily bright, my ears started ringing but at the same time it sounded like I was underwater, and the inner part of both ears started itching like crazy. I reached for a cup of water that I have close by, but it was already empty. I was so scared I was going to pass out and hit the floor bump first. I called to DH to come down and help me, while I tried to stagger out to the kitchen to get a drink. My legs felt numb like they were in a cramp but somehow I managed to get out there, have a drink and get to the settee without falling down.
DH found me laying on the settee white as a sheet. The last time he saw me as white and panicky as that, I had been given a shot of morphine when I had kidney stones! As a diabetic himself, he used to watching for the symptoms of a hypo, so even though I had started eating breakfast my sugar levels had obviously dropped too low because I had been agitating most of the night away.
Well after a quick scoff of a bar of chocolate and a cup of tea with three sugars in (yuk!) the ear ringing and vision returned to normal, but I struggled to get myself up and motivated for several hours. Even then I was still "out of sorts" til quite late last night.
After coming back from my exercise class, I always have a meal. Last night was stew and dumplings, I normally limit myself to two dumplings (lovely but too much stodge!) As I was eager to avoid a repeat performance, I served myself 5 dumplings with my stew and made sure I finished the lot. Well, so far so good this morning, had normal porridge breakfast and a mid-morning snack of......dumplings!
Planning a light lunch and some healthy snacks in the afternoon, to keep myself on even keel!
Best Wishes to everyone as we approach the half-way mark
