| 25-7-2009 - God bless the NHS!!! | My mood while writing this blog:full of beans |
What a difference a good nights sleep makes!
I went for my Physio appointment that was made for me by my Consultant for the Carpel Tunnel Syndrome.
My Physiotherapist asked for my symptoms, did some simple hand and wrist tests and confirmed that I do have Carpel Tunnel Syndrome.
I have been given splints to wear at night to hold my wrist in optimum position so the fluid doesnt put pressure on the nerves in the "Tunnel" so the numbness and pins & needles will stop. I have been told to wear them during the day at any time if the symptoms flare up, but for no more than 2 hours at a time to stop the muscles from atrophying.
She also gave me massage technique to use before bedtime and during the day to help improve the drainage. I have been discharged from Physio for the CTS, but after checking my ankles and feet she said midwife or Consultant may need to refer me back in the near future if they get too much fluid in them. I know my feet have spread since the ligaments have softened up, my once dainty feet now seem more akin to Fred Flintstone!
I had to hang around for DH, as he was picking up his parents to spend the weekend with us. I put my splints on as I was suffering a bit, within 45 minutes I had dozed off to sleep!
I just put it down to exhaustion, but last night I dutifully did my massage and put the splints on before going to bed and VOILA 6 hours uninterrupted sleep...I think I only woke up cos I was starting to get a little too warm under the splints.
Today, I feel more like my old self, still tired though (I know can't repair months of sleep deprevation in one night!) but I am definately not snapping at anyone (even though Mother-in-Law has been under my feet all morning in the kitchen, the definative red rag to a bull at the best of times!)
I had washing out on the line at 7 am, cooked breakfast for everyone by 8, all the lunchtime veg peeled and chopped by 9. Started repairing some of the kitchen paintwork and I started to feel a little rough. A sugary tea(it's tasting less yucky as the days go by!) a few biscuits and a little sit down for half an hour perked me back up again, and I managed to get the kitchen door finished.
DH has been spurred on to get my Laundry Room finished, so I have been fetching stuff to help him. I might even have a sink in by tonight!!!
I might even tackle the dining room door paintwork later this afternoon. I am looking forward to going to bed with my splints again tonight cos I am actually excited about how good I might feel when I wake up tomorrow. What might I be able to do tomorrow?
At some point soon I might even get the long awaited "pregnancy glow".
So I raise a cup of sugary tea in thanks to the hardworking people of the UK's National Health Service, who work so hard with so little appreciation. God bless all those looking after us mum and our ever-growing tums wherever they are in the world!
