16-8-2009 - baby on a budget part 2

My mood while writing this blog: relieved

For all my ladies here in the UK who use Tesco Clubcard, seriously think about doubling up your Clubcard vouchers in store for Baby items. (I dont work for Tesco's by the way...this is meant as helpful advice!!)

£20 doubled up to £40.... I bought 24 packs of 80 baby wipes, 2 packets of newborn size nappies, a nappy changing bag, a packet of Nappisan (for those re-usables I swore I was never gonna buy!) 2 newborn orthodontic pacifiers, 3 bottles baby shampoo, 3 bottles baby bath, 3 bottles of baby lotion, 2 x 5 packs of maternity knickers and 5 packs of 10 maternity pads.... and then I filled up the trolley with groceries ( not strictly true.... I had DD1 pushing the trolley and getting all the items off the high and low shelves for me!)

For all my ladies elsewhere...dont underestimate the value of Ebay. I managed to set my alarm clock to watch an auction for over 100 items for baby boy age 0-3 months finishing at 7 in the morning yesterday. Using my trusty spreadsheet method I added up what it would cost me if I bought everything on the list brand new, assuming I bought the basic of each stuff and not "designer" lables. By my reckoning this little lot came in at £225. After a bidding war with another insomniac mother to be and some furious typing on my part I won the auction. Yay! Bargain at £40.00 with quite a few "lables" in there...cant wait for them to arrive! I wont need to buy any clothes til he grows out of them. Its even got a little snowsuit, so if I venture off down the beach in the middle of winter, he will be as warm as toast.

Anyone who does want to buy him gifts, I can now just ask them to buy 3-6 month size knowing I am not gonna get unnecessary doubles!

Not much more to get now...fingers crossed I wont forget anything important!
