21-12-2008 - Trip from somewhere other than Heaven Glad to be hereMy mood while writing this blog:
Glad to be here

Well I have to say I'm very happy to be out of the airport... Our day started off kind of icky because of the stress of traveling. Tom and I sniped a bit and I hate that.

Well we found out prior to our friend dropping us off at the airport that our flight would be delayed. Ok no problem... so I thought :-) Well... it was delayed about 2.5 hours and so we would miss our connecting flight in Salt Lake City going to Raleigh. When the lady finally showed up at the gate she said "They should have never checked you in." This was after we'd already been at the airport for several hours. Then she said we could fly standby on a plane in Atlanta but we'd have to get on the plane to Atlanta (at the next gate in final boarding) and we couldn't sit together. So we figured at least we'd be on the East Coast and we could possibly pick up our rental car in Atlanta and drive to Raleigh. Bad thing was we wouldn't have any luggage whether we had to spend the night in Atlanta or made it to Raleigh so off to Atlanta we went. A very nice lady let us have her seat and we were able to sit together. I was so thankful for the kindness of strangers. I called the rental car place and instead of costing us $300 it would cost us $950... I asked the guy what kind of drugs he was on and told him I wanted what he was smoking. I told him we'd find a way to Raleigh.

Well it turned out ok because the flight was actually shorter going to Atlanta which was nice. We landed at the very last point in the terminal you could be and had to be at the OTHER very last point of the airport to catch the flight to Raleigh and we only had 30 mins to get there. So we got on the train to the other concourse. Well the train broke while we were on it and was moving very slow until a mechanic got to it with his special key. On top of all that, we had all dressed warmly so we didn't have to carry a coat and every section of the Atlanta airport had the heat on 100 degrees. Ok so I'm exaggerating but it sure seemed that way. Anyway so we found our way to the gate for the flight to Raleigh and they had two of the three stooges working the gate. They were stressed and unorganized and totally not knowing what they were doing. We even saw some very disoriented girl trying to get to Pittsburgh on the Raleigh plane. At least they noticed she was getting on the wrong plane.

In any case we did get on the flight and we made it to Raleigh where it was pouring down rain. I don't mean a slight drizzle but pouring down rain. We didn't see the Avis rental shuttle but the Enterprise shuttle driver told us he'd give us a courtesy ride. Again I was SO very thankful for the kindness of strangers. The rental car place was great except for when the kid told the other guy that he didn't think they had any car seats in the back. Well somehow one materialized and we were finally on our way to my friend's house still with no luggage. We had worn our slippers for comfort and our regular shoes were in our suitcase.. made for interesting shopping when we stopped at Walmart at 12:30 in the morning. Baby needed diapers and clothes as well as stuff for us. On the decent into Raleigh my head didn't equalize properly so I had a hard time with that and the headache didn't go away so I needed allergy/headache stuff too. My slippers (they have bottoms!) and socks were totally soaked.

We finally made it to my friend's house about 2am and he's just the best friend anyone could ask for. Our bed was ready and he'd set the guest bath out for us. This morning he had put the laundry in the dryer for me so it was dry when I got up. He'd made coffee and it was Starbucks Breakfast Blend my fav!!

So today they delivered our suitcase but brought the wrong one for Abigail. At least they found Abigail's and it should be delivered in a couple hours so my baby doesn't have to go nakid!

I hope all of you are doing well and I miss chatting with you!! If I can't make it on, have a VERY Merry Christmas and wonderful Holiday season to everyone!

Love, Lynn
