04-4-2009 - My Granddaddy died today

My mood while writing this blog:
sad

My little sister's high school softball team had their first round of playoffs today and my husband and I were about twenty minutes late. When we were on our way my little brother called and told me that something happened at the game and to get there. When we got there I found out that my Granddaddy was sitting in the bleachers cheering my little sister on (she's the pitcher-it's her senior year and she's amazing).. and collapsed. The game (even though it was playoffs) was cancelled and re-scheduled as there was no way my sister could continue playing being so upset. We followed the ambulance to the hospital only to find out that they worked on him the whole way there and were only able to get a faint pulse and eventually lost it...so he passed away. It's awful and un-real at the same time but honestly.....I don't think he'd have it any other way. My Grandmother (his wife) died June 5, 2007 (after my second miscarriage) and he's been grieving for her ever since. He would still tear up when he talked about her and would tell you how he couldn't wait to get to heaven to be with his "darlin'" again. I just went to his house the other night to set up his new phone for him and when I walked in he said, "My girl is finally showing now. When will my little doll baby be here??" (He was talking about my baby girl and he called her little doll baby since he's always called me his doll baby)... I'm so sad he won't get to meet her and she won't get to know him but I'll tell her all about him and I know he and my Grandmother are so happy now that they are together.

I am so sorry to see that you have a broken heart at this time. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayer but always remember the little miracle and blessing that is on its way. Now your little one will have a very special gaurdian angel:)

that is so sad. i bet its harder to loose someone while you are pregnant and have all kinds of hormones added to the normal grieving process. I am so sorry for you but i know that you are right and that where he is with the wife that he loves, is where he belongs.

I'm so sorry to hear of your Granddaddy's passing. It's always hard to lose a loved one. It sure sounds like he was loved a lot though and he loved a lot too. I'll bet he is so happy now that he has been reunited wih his 'darlin' in heaven, and they will both be smiling down on you and your little doll baby. Take care hun.

So sorry for your loss. You sound so brave in all this, and seem to have found understanding and solace in your grandfarther's life and legacy. As drod says, many of us do not get to know grandparents. I am the youngest in my family, so everyone was pretty old or passed away when I was born (i.e. I knew one grandmother, the rest died long before I was even born). Also, being the youngest child and my parents having me well in their 40's, my dad passed away when I was 16, and my mother is now in her late 70's. I sincerely believe that my father will always live on in my heart, and knows my daughter from above, and a part of him lives on in her and the rest of the grandkids that never got to meet. Anyway, enjoy all of your living loved ones to the fullest, and my prayers to you dealing with this difficult time.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Your grandparents were obviously a blessing in your life. It's wonderful to have had them. Many of us did not experience the joy of grandparents. Bask in the memory of their love and pass it on to " Little Baby Doll."

i am so sorry to hear that. losses are very hard especially when ur pregnant i had one recently too. but ur grandfather will be able to meet ur baby from up above and will always watch over u guys.
