My mood while writing this blog: Ok |
Ughh...I am so upset....I love my work and almost everything about it....When I found out I was prego I asked about the maternity leave...which they have....but you only get it if you have short term disabilty!!! Well needless to say when I started here 3 years ago...I never thought I would need it and didnt get it....So I applied and of course one of the questions for the application was "are you pregnant" so I knew right there I was going to get denied. Ugghh Well of course I was denied...just got the letter today!! I get leave with my company but not enough to last me the whole time I am out!! I am just really disappointed....when I am home with the new baby I was to be focused on the baby...not how am I going to pay my car payment/call bill etc... I guess the only other option I have is to save my entire tax return for when I am out with the baby...Plus I know Chris will help me with any bills I need paid I just really wish I was smart enough 3 years ago to get short term!!! :(

Friday, 24 Oct I am in the same situation as you! My company will pay me for one week - and thats it - the rest is to be short term disability! I could never get short term disability because I have type 1 diabetes, and that immediately got me denied because I depend on a drug - insulin - to survive! I still try every year at open enrollement - only to be denied. It is so unfair - there should be something in place other than disability insurance to help us make it through maternity leave! Its so upsetting. mommajess -
Friday, 24 Oct The county I work for offers short term disability for us (teachers) and I didn't sign up for it last year either. I didn't think I would get pregnant over the summer or so fast. So when it was time to sign up for it this year, I was already 8 weeks pregnant and couldn't get as much money with it as I could if I hadn't already been pregnant. I didn't sign up for it though because if I use my sick days (which I have to do or I don't get paid) I have enough to get me through the end of May/school. The good thing is that we get paid the same salary through the summer that we do during the school year. If I have to miss any days past the 30+ that I have saved up (that amounts to like 6 weeks and a couple of days), they pro-rate that and even everything out over my other checks for a certain amount of time. I'm sure that everything will work out just fine for you.
