My mood while writing this blog: Excited! |
I am in a good mood today because I am cancelling my credit cards! I had been struggling to pay them off forever and since I had so many of them instead of being able to make one large payment every month to one place I was having to break that into 5 or 6 payments just to make each deadline. It is a vicious cycle and I am sure some of you understand that insanity. So my dear sweet mom heard of my woes and said, "Hey ya' know I have a credit card with a big available balance and a really really low APR%, why don't we put all your cards onto one card and you can pay me." I was in shock and thankful that she would be willing to do that for me. I myself had been trying to get a larger credit card so I could do that myself but I couldn't be approved because of my outstanding blances. I mean I was trying so hard to get these stupid things paid off and I would list out all the due dates on my task pad and everything, but everytime I would make a payment it would be the minimum because that is all I could afford and then they would take their little fees out and it was going no where. So today I have the balances pretty much paid in full, minus a couple I need to get fixed up because we didn't pay the correct full amount, and I am calling them to cancel. I am so happy to be able to do this because this has been weighing over my head for awhile now. Especially before I am going to be on maternity leave, what a blessing really. I would've had to figure out how to make all those stupid little payments every month with no income but Jason's! That would've been bad news. Things are a bit more affordable now as far as that goes. I just wanted to share my happy little mood with you all. And a warning to any of you ladies out there who do not have credit cards.... DO NOT GET THEM!! Unless you get 1 for EMERGENCIES ONLY and stick by that.
Hope you all are having a lovely day!

Thursday, 18 Jun i am happy for you! we just did the same thing and it is really a relief... well we only had one card to transfer the balance but it was lower interest rates and everything so its such a relief! Sebine -
Thursday, 18 Jun GOOD FOR YOU!!!!! I'm very happy for you. I know what it's like to have those types of bills and to have them paid off or minimized to less payments a month. It is a huge relief! You don't need that kind of stress right now, anyway, with the pregnancy and all. You should celebrate by eating your biggest craving! = P GeoS -
Thursday, 18 Jun Yay for the relief!!! Luckily I don't have any credit cards and only dh has one which he made sure to block his available remainder in order not to exceed it. Honestly I wouldn't know what to do if I had to pay a credit card (apart from the house and the car), particularly now that in Greece interest on credit card amounts almost to 20%.... rikkiann -
Wednesday, 17 Jun I work at Citi and know first hand the danger that credit cards can be. A lot of people are educated when it comes to credit and credit cards. I know I knew nothing about it all before I started there. You really have to be careful with them. I am glad you figured out a solution. Because really it takes a lifetime to pay off balances when you are only making the minimum payment. RainbowRach -
Wednesday, 17 Jun Im in the same position. I hate credit cards and wish I never got them! sarah28 -
Wednesday, 17 Jun I have been there with Credit Cards myself and it can become a very distressing thing especially when you are only meeting minimum payments but thats great your mum helped out you will feel so much better - so happy for you S x Orphan Annie -
Tuesday, 16 Jun I know exactly what you mean. We have 2 cards, one in each of our names. They are so simple and easy to use and can get you into trouble before you know it. We are now dealing with higher interest rates because of the economy, they shouldn't be allowed to do it. We haven't ever paid late and our cards aren't maxxed out either. firsttimemom8122 -
Tuesday, 16 Jun You go GIRL!!! I hate credit cards now, I have no to little will power with them Texas gal -
Tuesday, 16 Jun awesome! Credit cards are bad news. I swear those credit card companies prey on young college students. They send out cards, then let them charge up a storm, and get in debt and trouble. Then they just write off their losses and collect on their insurance. Believe me, one way or another, they get their money back. It's such a scam. I hate their practices, extreme fees, late charges etc. It's a damn shame that our government lets them get away with all that crap.
I'm happy for you, and thank God your mom was able to help you out. What a huge relief!!!!!
Any less stress on us now is a good thing! Diegirl -
Tuesday, 16 Jun Yay! I am glad you have one less stressor! I don't have credit cards.... no will power. Tia.M -

Tuesday, 16 Jun Yay! That's good for you! :) We finally paid off ours too thanks to a loan from my parents...we only had one card but when Wayne was made redundant we had to use it to pay the rent and worked up £2000 on the damn thing, plus a £1000 overdraft on our current account...paying it off was MADNESS...one step forward and two steps backwards because of the high interest rate....but my Mum was able to get money from her mortgage and lend us it...so now all we're paying is £95 per month! YAY! lol...It's such a great feeling to know you're out of debt (or, at least, ALMOST out of debt...) :) x ~mama j~ -
Tuesday, 16 Jun that is great to hear. Its always nice to have that debt lifted off of your shoulders so you can focus on the more important things in life. dreaelise14 -
Tuesday, 16 Jun That's awesome! Just one piece of advice - your credit score will improve if you keep your cards open and don't carry a balance on them. The credit score is affected by how maxed out you are & if you have $0 balance, but have, for example, $10,000 line of credit available, you tend to look more responsible than someone with a maxed out line of credit or no line of credit at all. I would keep some of those accounts open & just shred the cards & vow to never use them. Not sure if that's helpful to you, but I hope it is! Glad you're doing well! neicie04 -
Tuesday, 16 Jun I can imagine how easy it is to run up credit cards. I only have 1. And I don't let it get over a certain amount. If I want something, I make sure to pay it down before I get it. I hear all the horror stories, so I try to keep mine below a certain point. I am so happy for you that you're getting yours straightened out. It's going to feel great when it's all paid off!
