13-5-2009 - Update

My mood while writing this blog: relieved

So Mom is doing a lot better! She is back to herself mostly, she still has some slurred speech and she's still struggling to come up with words, and she is still having some vision issues, but mostly she's back to herself, YAY!
The MRI she went in for Sunday at 11 pm came back inconclusive so she went for another on Monday at 2, it showed a spot, which the neurologist didn't bother to get into what it was (and he didn't stick around long enough for us to ask), he said there was no sign of a new stroke (his words... does that mean there's sign of an old one?? again, no time to ask) so from what he could gather his guess was that it started with a GI virus, the virus shot her blood sugars through the roof, the puking caused the vision problems, and the headache (possible migrane?) and fact that she didn't use her CPAP (because she was worried she'd puke in it) compounded all the issues and caused this to happen. He said we may never know what really happened, but that was his best guess and he wasn't going to do any more testing. He did also say it sounded like she was trying to have a stroke, but since there was no sign of new stroke that he didn't believe that had happened, even though the symptoms she was having do SOUND like a stroke.
She had an EEG yesterday and while the doctor hasn't confirmed it, someone (I'm not sure who, I was at work) told my mom that it looks like she did indeed have a stroke, but she has to wait for her doctor to get a hold of her to confirm it. So we're still a little fuzzy on what actually did happen, but that's where we are right now. Mom is still in the hospital, she still seems to have some sort of virus that she's working through. I will update again when we have more definite answers. But she is pretty much back to the mother that we know and love! I'm SOOOOOO relieved! That is great news! And I hope you can get a straight answer on what happened, but if not at least she is doing better.
