14-4-2009 - Rough couple days..

My mood while writing this blog: frustrated and sad

So it's been a rough couple days...
Friday I got a bill from the medical supply store that we got my breast pump from saying we owed them $247.50 for my pump.... yes, 11 months later they sent us a bill!! Apparently BCBS decided they weren't going to pay for it. So I freak out a little, we don't have that kind of spare money sitting around, and hubby says he'll take care of it later, I say no, this is getting dealt with now, so I call my HMO, because we had already turned in a pre-authorization for one when we were pregnant and they had OKed it so I called them to see what I had to do to get reimbursed for this. The only reason we hadn't gotten it through them at the time was because they were making us jump through loops trying to figure out where to get it, they kept telling us that we had to go through my doctor's office, but my doctor's office doesn't sell them, so they said we had to call the insurance and find out where and around and around we went, then we had Bekah and needed the pump immediately so Kevin went down to the medical supply store and picked one up, they said they didn't take my HMO, but they did take BCBS so Kevin used that and on our way we went. So, here I am on the phone with my HMO and the woman I talked to was WAY rude and flat out told me there was nothing they could or would do about it because it was a year later and it had to be pre-authorized and bought through one of THEIR providers. I told her we had a pre-authorization from the doctor and she said she didn't see one on the file and so I said, maybe it got lost and she said, and I quote, "That doesn't happen" I'm so sure!! So she continues to be rude and talk down to me like I'm some sort of idiot and I keep explaining that we got the go ahead from the insurance company a year ago, we just couldn't figure out where to get one, and I wanted to be reimbursed for it since they had said ok before, and we keep going in circles with her saying the same thing, and I kept asking what she was going to do to help me figure this out, she said there's nothing she can do. So I finally yell "Thanks!" at her and hang up on her (probably not the most mature thing to do, but she wouldn't shut up and listen to me, she just kept talking over me and telling me they wouldn't do it) So I go tell my husband what happened, and while I'm telling him (being slightly hormonal) I started crying, so hubby calls them back and says "first of all, I'd like to lodge a formal complaint" (I had taken the ladies name down when she answered, I always do, that way if I have to call back for any reason I can tell them who I was talking to) and told her how the lady I talked to was rude to me and totally unhelpful and how she had me in tears and the lady HE talked to took the information on the lady who was rude to me and he said he could hear her typing in what he was saying, and the lady he talked to was super helpful after that! when they were done with that hubby asked what we had to do to get reimbursed and in under 10 minutes he had instructions on what we had to do to get reimbursed! I love that man!! In general I really like my HMO, but when it comes to do with anything with this breast pump they have been a pain the @$$!!!
So then Saturday came around and I was going to drive down to Albany (about 25 minutes away) with one of my co-workers who lives in town to a friend of hers to buy some scrapbooking stuff that she was selling for way cheap, only to find out that her friend who was selling had died the night before in a car accident! I felt so bad for my co-worker!! She's such a sweetie and she was devastated by the news! So my sister and I spent the day with her out around town trying to keep her mind off it as much as possible.
Sunday was good, too short, but good and relaxing.
And then Monday came. My poor bunny Allie has been deteriorating at a fairly rapid rate in the last month or two, I'm pretty sure she's had at least one stroke, maybe two, but she still seemed really perky and alert and friendly, until about Sunday, Sunday and Monday she was just laying on her side, barely moving to try and get food and water, especially on Monday... she didn't look good at all, she barely lifted her head unless she heard something and was looking or when I gave her a carrot, she looked like she was in pain, and she wasw so emaciated that her ribs and hips were sticking out severely. She's been basically stuck on one hip since her stroke and she was getting bedsores on it and her hair was falling out, she was pooping and peeing on herself because she couldn't move out of it after she'd gone.. it was very said. Monday I had to make the decision to put her down. It was the hardest decision I've had to make, She looked so sad and it such bad health, and I'm sure it was the right decision, but it's so hard to make the decision to end someone's life, even if that someone is just an animal, my animals are my fur babies. I didn't think it'd be quite so hard on me, her passing, since she was in such bad shape, and it wasn't like it was anything sudden, and I honestly don't think it would have been quite so bad if she'd passed on her own, but making that decision sucked! My daughter was so sweet! She saw me crying, reached for me and hugged and cuddled me! It surprised me. You don't expect an 11 month old to grasp the concept of comforting someone when they're crying, but she seems to, both times I was crying she did it, she really seems to get that mommy cuddles her when she's upset, so she needs to cuddle mommy when mommy's upset. I fell a little more in love with her right then (which I didn't know was possible!).
Anyway, that's been my crummy last couple days... hopefully the week will pick up from here! Tomorrow I have a lunch meeting that my boss is going to be at so I gotta make sure I get down there on time! no sneaking in late for me! :-) I won't be though, I gotta get up at the buttcrack of dawn to get some work done! So it's off to bed for me now! Hope you all had a better last few days than I did, and have a great rest of your week! Mine is bound to be busy (another deadline on Friday, fun fun!). Take care!!

I am sorry about your bunny, I remember putting my french lop ear down.... And that happening on top of everything else! I am sending happy thoughts your way for a better week...

I'm sorry you lost Allie sweetie! You spoiled her so much though, everyone knows that! At least your dog didn't KILL her like Abby killed Zoe...she got to be spoiled for that many more years! What a lucky bunny! She finally gets to use her little "angel wings" too...her coloring looked like she had "wings"...

I'm glad that Kevin was able to get things figured out about your pump too...that sounds like a nightmare! That lady WAS rude, sorry honey! Crazy for them to bill you THIS late too...you're almost ready to use that pump for baby #2! :smile

I'm so sorry about everything that's happened over the last few days. But I agree that watching our little ones process and figure things out is amazing. I hope the rest of the week goes better!

Oh my goodness! I am SO SORRY you've had such a rough few days! I hope things turn around and start going your way. I don't know what I'm going to do when it comes time to get one of my cats put down. It will destroy me.

Aww, that sucks! You have had a rough few days. I am sorry about all of the bad news. And I had a problem with a breast pump rental after almost a year too! Turns out the hospital admits to losing it, because a lactation consultant remembers that I returned it. Ugh! But it was nerve wracking until it was settled...and my insurance refused the sopay so I still owe them $75! Anyway, I am sure your weekend was made rougher by the hormones and the tiredness too. I hope it picks up from here!!
