| 05-5-2010 - Birth Story | My mood while writing this blog:tired..but good! |
OK , so I couldn't figure out how to post my Birth Story on my "children's" page so here it is.
On Friday April 30th at 7:30pm I went into the hospital for my scheduled induction at 40 weeks and 5 days pregnant. My doctor refused to let me go past 41 weeks. At 8:15 pm the nurses checked me and said I was a 3 and 60% effaced. She inserted the Cervidil that had to stay in for 12 hours. That night was easy...I barely slept because of being so anxious to find out what my baby was and who can honestly say they sleep well in a hospital bed!?! Well at 5am Saturday morning I started having mild contractions on my own without the Pitocin. They were pretty spaced out at first and tolerable BUT at around 8am they intensified and it felt like there was NO break in between them. When a nurse came in to check on me I asked how far apart they were and she said they were coming every 1-3 minutes!!! OUCHY OUCHY!! At 9am they were so intense that I asked for something to help dull the pain because I couldn't rest. The nurse checked me and said I was dilated to a 5 and that was why they were so intense. She gave me a dose of Stadol in my IV and it helped but also made the contractions slow down. My doc came in at that time and checked me himself and decided to break my water which he noticed had meconium in it that he said had happened a few days prior to the induction and had the nurse start the Pitocin to get the contractions back on track. After starting the pitocin and breaking my water things got a lot more painful! By 11am I was crying in pain from the contractions that were ONLY in my BACK!! (back labor SUCKS ASS!!) I requested the Epidural at that time but had to wait for it because the Anesthesiologist was busy with an emergency C-section. SO I waited very impatiently and screamed and cried while my husband rubbed my back. He was so much help throughout the labor. So around 11:30-12 I finally got my Epidural. Things got a little sketchy at that point. My BP dropped to 80/44 and kept dropping. I was very out of it and didn't realize at the time what was going on. All I wanted was to go to sleep and was practically passing out. The nurses and my husband kept talking to me and asking questions to keep me awake. The baby didn't tolerate my low BP very well and they had to monitor the HR because it kept dropping. They got everything under control and just as I was trying to relax and get some rest before the BIG MOMENT came...the nurse decides she needed to check me. Well I was completely effaced and almost 10cm dilated at 2pm. She told me to let her know when I felt a ton of pressure and she would get the doctor. Not long after I had her come back in and check the baby's position and he was right there and ready!! she got the doctor..he had me give a little push to see how well baby would come down and immediately stopped me! Doc got all read and everything set up and with the next 2 contractions and 5 minutes of pushing My baby BOY, Mason Curtis Walker was born! He weighed 8lbs 2oz and was 20 inches long, my biggest baby and easiest labor. They immediately took him to be checked because of the meconium. He scored an 8 on the apgar the first time and a 9 on the second time. He was perfect and not effected by the meconium at all!! In all it was 9 hours and 47 minutes of labor....from the start of contractions. I did not tear or have to be cut at all...THANK GOD! We are so happy to have Mason in our family and wouldn't change a thing!!
