| 07-6-2009 - Baby Shower Hiccup | My mood while writing this blog:Hopeful |
My Baby Shower was supposed to be Saturday but I found out 3 days prior to it that only two people were ever given an invitation. I suppose I am partly responsible for not providing a guest list even though she said she didn't need one.
I had to chalk it up to a miscommunication between my Hostess and I. I was upset but not anymore. It works out better that we rescheduled anyways because this past weekend was BamaJam (a big music and arts festival we have down here once a year) and most people were making that more of a priority than a babyshower since most people purchased the tickets months in advance.
I decided to take control of making the reservations, doing new invitations and a thorough guest list as well as mailing the invitations out. I also made shower favors today. I called my two friends that had offered to hostess the shower for me and updated them and let them know everything was pretty much taken care of but they were welcome to show up at the restaurant an hour early to decorate and put any personal touches in place i.e. cake/decorations etc.
I guess whether or not that gets done will put rest to the notion I had that they really didn't want or have the time and effort to invest that a baby shower requires. I don't mean that as a jab, but just to say that I do not think many people realize it can get labor intensive and if you work full time, time can get away from you before you know it. I just hope I didn't offend them by taking the reigns on this. I feel justified in that had I done nothing at all, us three would have been the only ones that showed up to the shower that they planned. That would have made for alot of wasted food and financial resources so I think it worked out best for everyone. I will take my chances on the "offense" considering tip toeing around worried about offending someone was the root of the problem. We are all friends here.
Having a shower is important to me because I did not get the opportunity to have one with my first child because he was born so premature. I guess I could have been more honest with my hostess how important it was to me rather than making out like it was no big deal. I just didn't want to seem like I was putting pressure on anyone....especially since I am a military wife and there really is only so much a person can do to make something like a Baby Shower special considering the absence of family and you having to adopt the friends that you meet at each tour of duty as your psuedo family. For those that have never experienced life as a military spouse may not understand this. Situations like this can be very delicate and when we are already hormonal things can get out of hand quickly not to mention that is a heck of alot of expectation to assign to anyone! If no one shows up this time I can only blame myself and I can live with that.
I really enjoyed doing what I did for the shower. It may be frowned on in regards to the social appropriateness of me having hand in the planning of my own shower but I can live with that. I will have to offer to put together a shower for the next friend I know that is having a baby. I guess I just now realized how much I enjoy party planning.
