11-1-2010 - ELECTRIC Breast Pump suggestion?? HELP!

With both Keiley and Tiernan I was only able to beast feed for about two weeks. I get severely clogged ducts and so engorged I can't stop crying. HOWEVER, I really think if I bought a really good electric breast pump (instead of the manual ones I have had in the past) I may be able to just get past the pain and be able to fully breast feed Charlie. Which is something I REALLY want to do. I tried so hard with both babies and felt like I let my other children down when I just physically could not do it anymore with them.

So I am looking online and just want to know from experience what any of you have used and what you thought about the product. THANK YOU BEAUTIFUL LADIES!!!!!! :)

not that i need to say it with all your comments....but madella hands down!!!! I had used one in the childrens hospital with my daughter and it was pretty good. Some places rent them also.... thats an idea over buying one, or you could check out ebay. I know that finding a proper fitting suction cup is supposed to make all the difference though!

Just buckle down and get the Madela breast pump. The one that is $279. It will relieve those titties and bring in all that good milk. It's a whole lot cheaper than all that formula. I think it was so powerful it made my milk supply too much!

I have a Medela double electric breast pump. This thing, while a bit expensive, is freaking awesome! It can drain my breasts in less than 5 minutes which works out great for when you have a newborn who's barely eating. With my first baby I had a crappy pump and got really engorged and was in a lot of pain for a long time. Then I got this pump with my second baby and it worked so well to keep me from getting engorged and clogged. I highly recommend it. Oh, and I got mine used and then when I went to my WIC appointment they gave me a free replacement part kit. That way I wasn't using parts that had ever touched anyone else. Just a suggestion if you need to save some cash!

I have the Medela..its really really good! Its a little pricy..my mom bought mine..Its like the ones they use in the hospitals...

and let me know if you have any other questions or problems! I've been through it all with Max as far as breastfeeding goes (low supply, clogged ducts, mastitis, cracked sore nipples, etc). www.kellymom.com is a great resource as well!

I used the hospital grade Medela Lactina Select for a year...but a close friend's mother actually owns several of them and let me use it for free. She owns a store near me called "The Breastfeeding Center"...what a great source of support and encouragement that was! I would try to see if there's anything like that in your area...and definitely take a breastfeeding class! I hope you have great success this time--what a wonderful bonding experience. My son is just now weaning himself at almost 15 months old (the biting is getting to be too much...but it makes me a bit sad too!). Good luck either way~

I would rent from the hospital at least intially since the breast pumps are such an investment. I rented mine for about 2 months and would do it again.

i used the Medela pump in style and it was awsome!!! i used it for 6 months with elizabeth, it worked out great, i plan on using it again for this little baby too

I have the Medela pump in style and I love it. I pumped at work for 11 months with it and it did the job! It is a little loud, but I would get everything set up and turn it on and then zip up the front of it so it was much quieter. I could answer the phone at work while pumping and no one was the wiser to what I was doing, lol. A good pump was essential to my breastfeeding success and I think I picked the right one for me. I bought it at Target – pricey but worth it – I paid around $300 for it. Sometimes you can get it on sale for $240 here.

medella... I have never used one but most women swear by it. Good luck, I always have that same problem too

the kind of pump i have always used was avent hand pump, its not electronic and i think it works great. i only squeezed the handle once and with that one squeeze i emptied my bbs really quick. it didnt hurt at all and it was very comfortable
