03-8-2009 - I need Advice and Kind words! please! Open to AdviceMy mood while writing this blog:
Open to Advice

Ok Girls I need words of Love and Advice. We moved to this house, a rental house one month ago, everything was fine it was a little smaller but also cheaper and we needed that as my husband went from overtime to part-time at his job. But then I started noticing problems! the air didnt work like it should, and i saw water in our vents, then i found mold in our cabinet walls. The landlord sprayed the walls with a 'mold Cleaner' but it is still there! she says it is a stain! So I called one of our old landlords and he has a apt open but it is way more but we decided we could cut back and afford it! Well yesterday our Car motor blew! So now we dont have a car and we cant afford the new apt and a car payment! and i will lose my deposit! but i cant live with this mold either! Any advice? My b-day was the 1st at least it was a good day!

happy belated birthday. call your health department and the housing authority in your area. they can direct you to who to talk to if in your area it is not their area. In my area code enforcement takes care of this kind of stuff. i have had to call on mold issues our old house had. took us like 4 months to get everything sorted out but because we had records of my family having to go to the doctors and hospitals for headaches which they attributed to the mold the city helped us sue the landlord. the city ultimately stepped in and told them they had 30 days to get it fixed or they were doing it and sending the bill to the landlord. they will most likely ask you for proof of children living in the house and a statement from your doc showing you are pregnant as it will move you to the top part of the list for them to investigate. hope this helps if it doesnt call legal aid in your area and they will be able to advise you as to what your best move is.

Happy Belated Birthday and I agree with Diane take2...you should get in touch with the association and also try and intimidate the landlord into doing something worthwhile

Hmm, is there a landlord/tennants association in your area? You should call them to see what your rights are as a tennant, as mold is not safe. The landlord may be required to improve the appt by adding an air exchanger - not just a stop-gap solution of mold spray. In the mean time, you can make your own mold remover with one part bleach to four parts water. Put it in a spray bottle. Spray on the mold and leave it for ten minutes to kill the spores, wipe sown with clean water. This should help remove the black staining as well. Do in well ventilated space. Mold means water and moisture is behind the wall - maybe a leaking pipe. It is in the landlord's interest to fix the problem now before the walls all need to be torn down. If the mold leads to you or your family getting sick, you also have grounds to sue. Getting back to my first point, see if there is a tennants rights association in your area (call city hall if you are not sure where to start) and make decisions from there. You do have rights!! I am sorry you seem to be having heaps of trouble now, but it will work itself out - just put your mind to it, think positive, and rub your baby bump for luck!! lol - take care hun, it will be fine :) ((hug))

I don't know what state you live in, but I do know that it is against the law to be living in an apartment with mold. You can call the county or city health department as it is the landlords responsibility to take care of the mold issues. If you signed a lease there should be a mold and mildew sddendum. Check with your state and you can get help. You don't have to live like that with kids in the house.
