20-8-2008 - Doppler + Midwife (11 weeks)

Wow - I'm in a bit of shock (good shock) as I write this! I ordered a doppler a couple of days ago + to my surprise it arrived this morning! As the instructions said it will pick up a fetal heartbeat from 12 weeks onwards, I didn't expect to hear anything but thought I'd give it a go anyway. To my amazement, after a few minutes of trying, I heard the little sprouts heartbeat! I am so excited! It only lasted for a minute or so (if that) + then he/she probably swam away but it was amazing. Very fast.

I would really recommend getting one to combat anxieties! I got the Angelsounds Doppler from www.babymad.co.uk for only £23.95 (inc postage + packaging (UK)). I didn't order the extra gel as you can just use water (or lube!).

Oh, also saw my midwife today for the second time. I had bloods taken and my little piss pot analysed - nothing abnormal :) Have decided that I will have the baby at a midwife-led unit. No doctors!! :D I've had the appointment date through for my second dating scan - 2nd Sept so will hopefully see a bit more + get some pictures next time. Next appointment with the midwife will be at around 15 weeks where I will have a blood test that gives an indication of the risk factors for Down's Syndrome and the midwife will begin to monitor the baby's heartrate :) It's all happening so quickly!
