My mood while writing this blog: Excited |
Well yesterday me + James popped along to our 2nd class. It was held by the Midwife and the Physio + a lady also came to talk to us from a resusable nappy company. The Midwife went through the birthing process and handed around some equipment that we might see in the delivery room - my favourite was the suturing kit. Yuk!! Sooo hope that I don't see that in March! She gave us some tips for getting the baby into the best position for birth, which I'll have a go at. Although it means that I can't slump in the sofa all the time :( Damn it! The Physio went through the relaxation techniques again this week + we also practiced our breathing exercises and all that puff puff blow stuff. I'm really crap at it! The lady from the reusable nappy company was very helpful and I think it has definitely made me and James much more positive about deciding to use them..Just as well really because my parents bought a Birth to Potty kit for £220 last month! Eeeek!
We're finally starting to take the baby shopping seriously as we realised that there isn't really that long to go now! I picked up some half price bedding from Dunelm, which is very cute + I have everything ready for the baby's hospital bag. I'll sort mine out nearer the time I think. We have decided on a pram - the Mamas and Papas Pliko Pramette - James's parents have kindly offered to buy it for us so we just need to put the order in later this month + make sure that it fits in both of our cars!
Just another thing before I blab on too long - I'm planning on breastfeeding but would like to pump so that James can take care of some of the feeds when I'm not around. Does anyone have any recommendations for brands? I've heard that the Lansinoh (sp?) one is easy to use but wondered if any of you ladies have had good experiences with other pumps?
Cheers me dears
Take care girlies, babies and bumps

Friday, 16 Jan Would be interested to hear what recommendations you get for breast pumps etc. I would like to express aswell but having probs deciding on whats the best one to get. Might have to start asking around :-)
Glad to hear all is well with you. Re: not sleeping at night...i have no idea why im struggling. Last night was great though...i slept right through until 7am except for a 1am pee break! I seem to wake up and then my brain goes into overdrive thinking about tonnes of things over and over in my mind. Its not been anything important either...the other night i was thinking about Coronation Street plots for goodness sake!! (My mum sends me out regular DVD's of Corrie that she records and posts out to me)
Glad to hear you're getting all organised. What kind of things have you got for your baby hospital bag?

Thursday, 15 Jan I also heard the Lastinoh one was good, I registered for it for my baby shower, so we'll see. And what exactly is a Pram??? kanojoca -
Thursday, 15 Jan i too am breastfeeding, but haven't looked into pumps as of yet.
Just remember **** that you need to breastfeed solidly for 4-6 wks , or at least 4 wks, cause sucking the nipple is more difficult then sucking the bottle, so you don't want to put the wee one on a bottle too early sa they might not take your breast!
Oh and as you are in the UK if you find a good pump let me know, i haven't really looked yet as i figured i won't need for at least a month after the baby is born, hopefully!!!
Good luck
Oh we are also using cloth nappies, if you read my recent blog we got a real good deal, we got the little lamb velcro ones, i actually very happy with them and using them! organic and environmentally safe here i come! gemzc -
Thursday, 15 Jan I've also bought re-usable nappies but I've been having second thoughts as I don't know if I can face all the extra washing involved. One reason i wanted them was because it's better for the environment but with washing them everyday I don't think the extra water and electricity we'll use will mean they are better, plus it will be a hassel!! I've got two weeks to return them. Glad the class went well. In my second class they brought a baby down from the maternity unit for a bath and she was so adorable. It made having a baby so real. I too was given advice about the optimal position for birth but I'm sure when I'm in pain I'll just adopt any position which helps. We've also been choosing our pram we are opting for the quinny. I keep starring at women in the street to see what they have...hehe. I've had a few weird looks. No idea about breast pumps but I was told that it's better to get an electronic one rather than something manuel as it's easier to get the milk out apparently.
