| 21-10-2008 - Drum Roll Please..... | My mood while writing this blog:Whatever |
Hello Ladies,
I want this to be short and brief, but here is a synapsis:
NO BABY YET.
Now here is the long version:
Went Monday for BPP/NST everything looked great. Nurse interpreted her strips for baby as having variables/decelerations of his heart with contractions. Me being a nurse and having worked in L&D, I had been watching the monitor myself and interpreted all was fine. The baby was doing great.
I was told I was being kept and sent to L&D for induction then instead of Wednesday. I was told it would be a while before I got a room. So I sent DH home with my son to be greeted by one of his grandmothers, to keep him as we were looking at some long hours in the hospital. As the evening progressed and I was getting four wall fever, I was left alone to think (which can be dangerous).
My brother-in-law and his baby mama were admitted in the triage next to mine. What a soap opera. LOL. Anyhow, as I saw her nurse popping in and out of her room. I was beggining to wonder where mine went. She had not been back for over an hour and a half after starting my I.V. and me questioning her interpretation of the NST that babies heart was not doing well with contractions.
So I took myself off the monitor, went into my sis in laws room and requested to trade nurses, because my I.V. was falling out, I was hungry, thirsty and ready to go home. Her nurse laughed and said, You should not go home, your baby is having variables. I then proceeded to tell her, that I appreciate the care she is giving to my sis in law, but I do not have a clue where my nurse is. I also said I want to see the variables that my baby is having and I want her to get my nurse to remove and restart a new I.V. The nurse laughed, "You are so crazy." My sis-in-law looked at her nurse and said, "She is serious." I then cosigned the statement and said, "Yes maam, I am serious."
I went back to my room and had a telephone conversation with my husband that did not go over well. As a matter a fact here I am 24 hours later and he has not talked to me all day. Oh well...
Anyhow, a new nurse came into my room. 4th one in 4 hours. I said, "Oh a new one." She smiled. Closed the door behind her and told me what her interpretation was of the strips that had been misread by my nurse. She said, Baby Boy was healthy. There were NO Variables, as I had stated. She was calling the doctor. She also said there were really busy. I said great, I will sign myself out and go home and they can have the uncomfortable bed for someone who needed it. She left called the on call Dr. who still wanted me to stay and be induced, but I refused. I left the hospital.
Today I called my Dr. and left him a personal detailed message. I told him I was scheduled to go in at midnight for induction, but had no true evidence as to why I needed to. I told him I left the hospital AMA (Against Medical Advice) because there was no reason for an induction which could highly likely lead to C-section. I informed him that no one at the hospital even checkd my cervix and I was being admitted. I asked him to call me back ASAP so that I can talk to him about whether or not I should go in for induction. This was 8 am and I had not received a call by 1pm. So I took my little happy self to the office and requested to see him face to face. He was not there and in surgery (he is c-section happy). I asked to see the Nurse Practitioner, she agreed to see me within the hour.
The NP, checked my cervix as I requested and said baby was high, cervix was high and no where near favorable for labor. I told her that I was not going to be attending the induction at midnight if not medically necessary. She asked that I let her call me once she has spoke to the Dr.
She called a little after five. She informed me that the Dr. was okay with me not coming in for induction. I am to go back to the hospital on Friday morning for another BPP/NST, to see how the baby is fairing.
Listen guys, I am all for interventions that are truly necessary. I am not for intervention that can bring the inconvenience of a physician and the hospital staff into a mode of convenience.
Ladies, please be sure to keep yourselves well informed. Do what is right for you and the Baby. If at anytime there is a true indication of Maternal or fetal distress, be sure to do what ever intervention that is necessary to keep you safe and healthy. I will do this as I am given evidence of such.
Baby and I are doing great!! I will keep you all posted. God Bless.
