| 18-8-2009 - Fenugreek???? |
My mood while writing this blog: Ok |
BREASTFEEDING.
I really wanted too. I have heard all the stories, your boobs get all engorged, they shoot milk, they hurt, etc.
So MY boobs must be the exception. They never got engorged, never filled with milk, dont shoot out in the shower, nothing.
So even from the hospital i was trying to breastfeed and still supplementing with formula, and now its to the point where im pumping like 5 times a day and these stupid boobs dont produce jack SHIT, like an ounce or less at a time. So i feed her every thing that i can, but its normally like 9 bottles of formula to 1 bottle of breastmilk a day.
So the nurse today tells me 'Have you tried Fenugreek?'
Um, no? What the hell is that?
She said its an herbal supplement that helps produce breastmilk. Now has anyone tried this? Should i go out and get it or give up and switch all the way to formula?
I rented a pump, its due back at the end of the month, i could extend the rental or bring it back and be done, i dont know what i want to do.
(Thats where you come in ladies) :)
Tell me what to do! I prob have to go back to work in a little under a month (grrr) so take that into consideration too.
But i dont know, help me out here ladies...
XOXO!
(p.s. is one poop a day normal for a 3 week old? she went from like 8 poops a day to not pooping at all then i put her on the similac sensitive so she would start pooping again and now its one poop a day. good? no good? my poor gassy baby...)

Saturday, 22 Aug I began to dry up when my daughter was 4 months old. I tried to stop from drying up by pumping all the time and all those other tricks. I tried the Fenugreek and it helped a little, but I think my body was just DONE. I dried up either way. .Mama[OF]One. -
Thursday, 20 Aug I had the EXACT same problem i wasnt pumping jack and so i just stopped. My girl is on simliac aswell and only poops once a day sometimes every second day and is sooooo gassy. My doctor told me try try nestle good start he says its the closest thing to breastmilk so im gonna try it and see how it goes. He said to just try and make sure she burps lots after every feed and not to put her down until she does. I gave her gripe water for the first time yesterday and im not sure if it worked or not cause she was just cranky all day so im not really sure what else to do. julz -
Wednesday, 19 Aug My son was supplemented from the day he was born both formula and breastmilk, my supply aran out about a week ago, I had some pumped milk saved inthe freezer, so he was able to get it for awhile longer, but I was sad when my supply ran out, I was prepared to breastfeed him as long as I could, but thigs just didn't work out...my milk didn't come in until he was about 5 days old..then it was great, but when he turned a month old is started to dwindle. I would try the fenugreek, Ihope it works sweetie!! Good luck! Jmajor-payne -

Wednesday, 19 Aug My story is very simular to you. I did try fenugreek but it didn't help. I was only getting 2 oz when I pumped max. Now he's only on formula & uses sensitive similac. He poops once a day like clockwork. I wish I could have breastfed longer but it just didn't work out... luvmyJ -
Wednesday, 19 Aug I tried taking the max dosage of fenugreek and blessed thissle at the same time to try to up my milk supply after it had gone down from me returning to work and not being able to feed/pump as often as I was at home... It worked, but only a little bit. I stopped after about a month cause it was more aggrivation that it was worth for me, my baby was put on formula when she was 4 months old and luckily she was fine with the transition. I'd contact your baby's dr about the one poop a day though.. I don't think that is often enough for a 3 week old. Then again, when I did contact my baby's dr, he just said don't give her anything for it, but that she'll go when she needs to. he did say I could try some warm water, like 4 oz, and a teaspoon of kyro syrup to help her go. Hope this info helps, good luck with everything! AllyCat62683 -
Tuesday, 18 Aug I pumped with my son but only produced a little tiny bit for about a month. I am pumping more often with this baby and my boobs are getting all hard and engorged but I am still giving her only a couple ounces a day of breast milk and the rest formula. I think I actually saw that fenugreek stuff at the Overlake womens center today when I went for my post partum check up. I had never heard of supplements for helping produce myself either. I was talking to the nurse about it and yes many people reccommend breast milk but a little is just as good as a lot in my opinion. The first milk that is produced with the colostrum has the most antibodies in it but after that I think formula is totally cool. On the poop situ I would maybe look into a different kind of formula. It sounds like she might be a bit backed up, but at least she is pooping once a day. urnaa -

Tuesday, 18 Aug i never tried the fenugreek myself. i had the same problem with breastfeeding my son, and no one told me about the fenugreek until i had already given up and went to formula exclusively. the woman who told me about it said she went from next to nothing to squirting milk! so i am almost due with baby number 2 and plan to breastfeed again, and if i have supply problems again i am going to get the pump rental from wic and try fenugreek. babylicious2(blue) -
Tuesday, 18 Aug Umm i would talk to your doc about her poop cuz as i remember the amount of bowels and pee they hav reflect how much they are eating and thats how u know they are getting enough to eat and i was almost like you it took like 2 days for my full milk to come in but omg the lady in the nicu was sooooo forceful and helpful she told me not to pump just put the baby on the boob wenever possible cuz thats wat make the milk come on and the pump can do all the same thing as baby can for the milk to come and wen the baby does feed or simulate your bob to help milk flow to pump likr every 15 mins to help also and day 2 i was starting to get hard full bppbs of milk and i tried then to only boob feed for the whole week and then i was a pro at it lolz so i really hope tht helps u but i didnt try the other thing fengeek lolz good luck
oh yeah my baby pooped or peed after each meal for the first few weeks and thats wat they told me was normal and then after she got amonth or two old it changed but i also started her on formlua but talked to your doc and i also had a lactions specialist help me with boobiefeeding so yeah usually they have someone help u in the hosptial but im sure u can go in to see someone or they cna go to you!!! good luck again hun gixxerbabe08 -
Tuesday, 18 Aug if i were u i would pump every 3 hours if possible to build up ur supply. and if that doesnt work then ur milk may be slowing down. u should call a lactation consultant and ask them mommy-ofa-boy -
Tuesday, 18 Aug i dont have an actual baby yet so i dont know about the dooky lol but i think breast feeding is great and any little bit helps her immune system greatly (so ive read) and not sure about where you got the pump but i say find a local wic office and rent from them if im not mistaken i think its free so i say try it it doesnt hurt baby[bump]mama -
Tuesday, 18 Aug first off-when your baby is on formula-1 poop a day is great! my son would poop every other day with formula. secondly-if you really wanna breastfeed you lil one-personally i would do everything in my power! i lost my milk at 3/4wks but i could pump about 8-12oz every 2-3hrs for those few wks. but it didn't help my son was in the NICU, for feeding him was really hard. my doc told me that she gives a shot to produce the milk hormone. i would give a call to your ob/gyn or midwife and ask them. good luck! i hope you are able to get breastfeeding your lil one. renee
