09-2-2009 - (2) Everyday things that make my life easier THANKFULMy mood while writing this blog:
THANKFUL

This one is actually very high up on my list! I really do not know how I would function with out it now..lol! Ok, so I'm sure I would find a way, but I would truly miss it!

It is my Ergo baby carrier. I use this alot. I actually love it so much that I own two, one for me and one for my dh. I have owned several different brands of carriers and was alway very disappointed with how uncomfortable they were. My back and shoulders would start hurting almost minutes after putting it on.

Not with my Ergo, though! I was very skeptical, b/c it cost so much, but after trying my SIL's I was sold! I know, I sound like an infomerical, but it is so true! Isabella was 8 mos. old when I tried my SIL's and I tried it on with Bella on my back, and wow, I was so surprised at how light she felt! I could feel all of her weight, pulling at my shoulders, with all of the others. I bought my first one when she was 10 mos. old. I used it while cleaning, cooking, and most especcially when shopping!

Alex was very content, in his infant carseat when he was a baby, while we were shopping. But then we had Gabe, he screamed if left in his carseat, and I would end up carrying a 10 lb. baby in one arm, while trying to steer the cart with the other. And 10 lbs. soon starts to feel like 20! Also, not to mention, no room in the cart for groceries, b/c Alex wasn't old enough to walk yet. And one day while shopping for toothbrushes, and trying to console a crying baby, Alex fell out of the cart, hitting his head on the very hard concrete floors! We ended up in the ER, thankfully with nothing more than a big goose egg!

I finally decided to try using my very uncomfortable baby carrier, and alas Gabe would sleep the whole time then. So yay, I found what worked for him, and Alex could then return to the front of the cart where I could snap him in securely. And even though it was uncomfortable for me, it worked and that was what mattered.

Then we had Bella, she too hated Walmart. So I broke out the torture device....ahem, I mean baby carrier again, and she slept the whole time as well. This put Gabe snapped in the front, and Alex sitting in the back surrounded by groceries, but hey, once again it worked. And it worked even better once I bought my Ergo! The trips were so much more pleasant, and Walmart started using the cart that has the blue attachment at the front where 2 children could sit, freeing up my entire cart for groceries!! Unfortunately, these are usually being used already when we go, but I took advantage of them when I could.

When we had Elliana, I didn't even try taking her seat in, I just bought the infant insert for my Ergo, and started her in it from the beginning! I also bought a second Ergo, so when Joseph was with me, which by this time he usually was, then he could carry Bella in it.

I now use my Ergo with Annalise, and just like her brother and sisters did, she sleeps through shopping and it makes for a more pleasant trip! I also use it in the evenings when she is fussy and it helps to calm her down.

It is wonderful! It is easily used with children as old as 4! It can be worn on the front, back, hip (although I do not like it on the hip), and with an infant insert. The infant insert is used until the baby is 4 mos., then it is no longer needed.

So, I'm sure it is obvious that I really love my Ergo! With little ones, it is always nice to have my hands free to do other things, and the Ergo makes this possible.
