About Your Pregnancy

Is this your first pregnancy? yes

When did you find out you were pregnant? 11/27/2008

Was it planned? no

What was your first reaction? I was in disbelief. Had been sick for a while but thought there was no way I could get pregnant, as my doctor said "there's no way you'll be able to conceive!"

Who was with you when you found out? My roommate at the time, Brieanne

Who was the first person you told? My mummy

How did your parents react? My mum didn't get the big fanfare thing, cause I called her right away. She reacted calmly, but not excited, then got excited the next day. My dad, who I was expecting to hate the idea, got up and hugged me in the restaurant. It's the first grandchild for extended family on my mum's AND dad's side.

How far along are you? hehe. 38 weeks, 3 days. Kept thinking to myself I should do one of these, but usually hurts my back too much to sit at the computer for this long!

What was your first symptom? Very pukey (but from heartburn and gas, not really nausea)

What is your due date? July 22 2008

Do you know the sex of the baby? Yes

If so, what is it? A baby girl

Have you picked out names? a few we like, none we are stuck on

If so, what are they? current winner is Abby. For middle names, depending on the first name we choose, we like either Elizabeth or Anne

How much weight have you gained? 33 lbs

Do you have stretch marks? didn't for a while, but have quite a few at this point. I do the cream and vitamin E oil multiple times daily, so if they don't go away I'll deal

Have you felt the baby move? I should certainly hope so at this point! Although she's been engaged very deeply in the pelvis since about 32-33 weeks, so not very much movement now.

Have you heard the heartbeat? Yes, many times. The coolest is hearing it clearly through the stethoscope.

About the birth

Will you keep the baby? Absolutely.

Home or hospital birth? definitely home, unless the midwives say I have to go to the hospital. I would prefer the birth to be as un-medicalized as possible.

Natural or medicated birth? well, no epidural. The medication the midwives will be bringing is nitrous oxide.

Who will be in the delivery room with you? Dave, my mum, and my little sister (hopefully, as she lives and works out of town)

Will you breastfeed? absolutely, for as long as I can.

Do you think you'll need a c-section?: I think I can manage without one, but you never know. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst, my dad always says.

Will you cry when you hold the baby for the first time? I think so. But I thought I'd cry the first time I heard the heartbeat or saw her on the ultrasound, and my eyes only got a little moist for both those things.

What's the first thing you might say to him/her? who knows. Probably "hello" will suffice.

Would you let someone videotape the birth? Dave and I are planning to film some of the labour and all of the delivery. My best friend was going to, and didn't, and regrets it. If I decide I don't want it, I can burn it, but if I don't tape it I may live to regret that.

Are you excited about the birth, or scared? I think a little bit of nervousness is healthy, but I am so anxiety-prone that I have spent the better part of the last nine months determined to teach myself to be as calm as possible. It's not like I'll be in labour for days. And when I'm done I'll have my daughter in my arms.
