| 28-6-2008 - Fast forward to week 11 | My mood while writing this blog:Ok |
As I am starting this at 11 weeks, here is a fast forward up to that time: I pretty much started having symptoms right away, so I suspected that I was pregnant for several weeks. (I had heartburn--which I had only had once in my life before, oh so lovely gas--which I also am not a very gaseous person, nausea, and pretty much every other TYPICAL pregnancy symptom EXCEPT sore breasts! One "symptom" that was strange for me was the hiccups. I can count the number of times in my life that I have had hiccups, but as soon as I got pregnant, I started having hiccups almost daily--and STILL do--at 21 weeks pregnant!) As it turned out, I didn't have a positive pregnancy test until 11 days after my missed period--as I ovulate later in my cycle (so that was a bit unnerving!) So the whole time I was getting negative pregnancy tests, I thought either I was crazy (because I had every TYPICAL symptom) or I realy was pregnant! My husband was out of town when I finally got the BFP, so I immediately called him and said "It's faint but it's definitely there!"
A week later I had my confirmation appointment at the doctor (They thought I was 6 weeks based on my period, but from the u/s a couple of weeks later I now know I was really 4-5 weeks). We told our close family and friends (and I ended up telling a co-worker and "boss" as we all work in close proximity to each other). Turns out it was the right decision, as I started having very light brown spotting a few days later and missed a day of work. I called the doctor, but they said it was very normal (if it stays very light and brown like mine did). That lasted about 4 days (I was convinced that it was the end, but thankfully it turned out to be fine). Somewhere in there was the appointment with the nurse (lots of information and family history) and the following appointment where lots of blood is taken (I will say that they wrapped something around my arm instead of using a band-aid, which kept me from having a bruise--or at least that worked for me).
At what I now know was 8 weeks 4 days, I went for my second formal appointment with the DOCTOR, and he said for my peace of mind they would order an u/s ASAP (as I once again had a little of light brown spotting at 8 weeks for almost a week. Although I was a LITTLE less nervous this time as it started on the exact day I WOULD HAVE started my period and lasted a week, which apparently is very common). Anway, the next Monday, my husband and I got to see our little peapod with its little paddle arms. We saw it wiggle around and heard the heartbeat. It was so amazing. They figured out that the baby was 9 weeks 1 day at that time and changed my due date to November 9th (from October 26th). I haven't had any spotting since, and they said they didn't see any reason for me to be spotting. That pretty much brings us up to speed. I'm now 11 weeks and beginning to feel a little less tired and not quite so nauseous. On May 1st, we go to hear the heartbeat on the doppler, and hopefully everything will still be fine!
