23-11-2008 - 1 month old!

My mood while writing this blog: happy

Hey everyone! Jack is officially 5 weeks old! He is such a sweet baby--he mainly only cries when he is hungry...or when he has his clothes changed! He has started smiling (I wondered if it was purposeful until today--when he smiled 4 times back to back with me and then quite a few times with daddy!) He LOVES to look at his stuffed dinosaur..and is even trying to reach for it (grabbing the rings on it!). His neck is getting much more stable...although he occasionally still throws it back!

He went to the doctor on Thursday for his 1 month visit. (At his 2 week visit, he weighed 7 lbs. 15 oz. By his 1 month visit, he weighed 11 lbs. 3 oz!! The doctor came in laughing--as he said most babies only gain a pound or 2...but not Jack--almost 3 1/2 lbs!) ...And I think he has grown since then! Anyway, he is doing really well--and is happy and healthy!

Thought this was interesting--I came across the "baby language" called Dunstan Baby language. I found several videos (including the one from the Oprah show on Youtube). It explain what different crying sounds mean. One of the videos had 2 different parents watch an informational video on the baby language. They came back 2 weeks later to see if it helped with "understanding" their child. With one baby, it worked very well. With the other, it did not (the baby's cries did not follow that pattern). Anyway, they do not appear to work with Jack...BUT it did bring differences in cries to my attention. Hopefully, I'll be able to figure out what Jack's cries mean over time. BUT I thought if it could help someone else, then it might be worth mentioning (it is at least worth looking at!) ..Thought I'd pass the word along!
