Yesterday afternoon around 5, Jack started sounding really congested (stuffed up nose), so I called the doctor's office & talked to the nurse. She said to use some saline drops in his nose (then suction it out) & to turn on the hot water in the bathroom (close the door) and let him breathe in the steam for 15 minutes. So I did this several times throughout the evening, and it really helped. I put Jack to bed around 11ish, and he woke up this morning at 5:50 crying. The congestion had moved into his lungs, and he was having a hard time breathing. My husband is out of town, so my mom is here for the weekend. I had her sit with him in the steamy bathroom while I called the nurse. The nurse asked me to look at how he was breathing, and based on my answer, she told us to head into the Children's ER at the hospital just down the road (thank goodness..only about a mile or less away!) We got there, and luckily we were the only ones in the waiting room, so we were seen right away! They checked him out (his oxygen levels were 99%--so that's good) and gave him some medication to help decrease the inflammation in his lungs (then let us go). Jack is still sounding very congested...and having a hard time breathing..poor little guy! Even though he doesn't feel well, he was still smiling at all of the doctors and nurses..and being very sweet! So Jack has croup, and we'll just have to wait it out (not fun!)
Any prayers would be greatly appreciated!...It's amazing what God can teach you through your children. Watching your son suffer is excrutiatingly hard!
