| 14-10-2009 - First Doctors Appointment | My mood while writing this blog:Happy |
So yesterday I had my first actual doctor's appointment. It was GREAT!!! They told me that all of my labs came back perfect (which was good news because with my DD I was severely anemic). We did the usual weight, blood pressure, internal exam and breast exam...all perfect. Then, the most amazing part...listening for the heartbeat. The doctor warned me that many women don't hear it at this point with the doppler because of the baby still being small or the baby's position, but we tried anyway. After about a minute of searching, there it was...LOUD and CLEAR...my baby's heart racing away!!!! It was the most beautiful sound in the world. I could have listened to it all day!!! She didn't say exactly how many beats per minute, but she did say it sounded good and strong! My husband and I couldn't have been happier.
After getting dressed and meeting with the doctor in her office, she gave us another bit of news. She said that based on my LMP, my due date was May 9th, but based on my initial ultrasound I had several weeks ago, that they are changing my due date to May 17th. She said that I must ovulate late in my cycle (which I thought might be the case because this very thing happened with DD). Anyway, she said that although they changed my due date to May 17th for now, she has her suspisions that I may be a little further along than that because of finding the heartbeat so easily. Oh well...we'll have a better idea when we have our next ultrasound. I'm not too worried about it. All is well and that is a blessing!!! This little angel will come when they are good and ready anyway!! :)
The only other thing that happened is that the doctor told me I lost another 3 pounds since seeing the nurse a week and a half ago. Because of the weight loss and the extreme morning sickness (that lasts all day every day), she gave me a prescription for Zofran (which is what they give to chemo patients to help them keep food down). She said there are no side effects for me or baby and it's totally safe. I'm actually pretty excited at the thought of being able to eat something and keep it down!!
Ok...that's all for now. I am so relieved and happy and feel so blessed! My next check-up is in 4 weeks (November 11) which is 5 days before my birthday. What a great birthday present to get to hear my little angel's heartbeat again! I'll update again soon. I hope all of you lovely ladies are doing well and know that I keep you all in my thoughts and prayers! Have a great day ladies!! :)
